Stop Jalen Hurts And The Bucs Will Stop The Eagles

September 28th, 2025

Defending Eagles QB Jalen Hurts.

Just because the Bucs have Jalen Hurts’ number doesn’t mean it’s going to be a walk in the park this afternoon at The Licht House.

Joe spoke with outside linebacker Anthony Nelson last week about Hurts, the Super Bowl-winning star quarterback of the Eagles. He gives every NFL team fits — except a team that has a Todd Bowles’ defense.

Hurts led the Eagles to just one win over Bowles, that was Week 3 2023, when the Bucs had a new offense, a new offensive coordinator (Dave Canales) and a new quarterback (Baker Mayfield).

The Bucs have won the last two games against the Eagles, including a playoff game after the 2023 regular season.

Although the Bucs seem to be Hurts’ kryptonite, Nelson told Joe that Hurts is a handful to defend.

“He’s a really good quarterback,” Nelson said. “He can kind of beat you in all ways. He’s got good decision-making. He can pretty much make every throw and then he can take off [and run].

“That makes it tough. I mean, when [a quarterback] can do it all, you’ve got so much to cover.”

So what is the secret sauce to stopping Hurts, or at least keeping him in check? In short, Nelson said defenders have to mow their own lawn.

“You just have got to have guys playing their responsibilities and playing hard,” Nelson said. “It can take multiple guys to bring him down. So you have to be where you are supposed to be.”

Nelson also said defenders have to be able to take away Hurts’ first, second and third reads.

So yeah, the Bucs have gotten the upper hand on Hurts. But as Nelson told Joe, it’s not impossible, but it ain’t easy.

The best way to defeat Hurts is well proven. Just let him have an easy TD on his first drive, then play soft shell turtle pass defense in the 4thQ. It’s worked against every other mediocre opponent in 2025, and it will work on Hurts.

Or maybe have Mr Magoo call another punt blcok, except this time, it’s the Bucs trying to block the opponent’s punt. He called “punt block” when we were punting against the TExans so he got confused.

I really need to stop watching the national talking heads shows. Been two narratives all week:

    * Bucs opponents are 1-8 this year and they barely won
*Last year both AJB and DW didn’t play for the Eagles

About the first one, same with the Bills. And didn’t most of you pick the Bucs to lose their first two games on the road?

And the second, how about the amazing Eagles qb elevate the WR talent around him? You think Sterling Sheppard is Plan A???

Don’t get me wrong, the Eagles are an excellent team and the Nucs could very well come out on the short end today. But dear Lord I won’t be crying about missing people for an entire freaking year.

And if the Bucs do win, the script for the idiot shows will be “What’s wrong with the Eagles?”

Did I just say “Nucs”? Clearly the European game has me starting way to early.

Expect alot of zone coverage today, forcing Hurts to dissect the secondary has been key in beating the Eagles team these last few times we’ve played. Back that up with some pressure whether it be with four or we’ve got to blitz/simulate pressure.

We want to force Hurts to beat us with the pass game, the sooner we can get up
on the scoreboard, the easier it gets to contain that Hurts and that offense. Gotta play clean ball though

    Bucs 24 Eagles 17

^^I think with SlyPirates good juju we got this

It should be close with mistakes and the ability to capitalize on them being key. Would like to see another takeaway or even 2 on the buc side. Some guys need to stop having an errant pass hit them in the hands and then not grab it. You only get so many chances in a game to take it away. Dean did a good job last week. Some otherZ need to step up.

The Buc’s stink at home and everyone knows that. When we start mentioning law of averages or what has transpired recently between two teams, reality is lost. The Eagles are due for a win against my Buc’s so I stay very silent. I can tell after the first two series how they will perform throughout the game. There is absolutely no home field advantage with this team. Either the locals sell their tickets or they just don’t show up. First, the Eagles should be in their dark jerseys. Second, keep a spy on Hurts and thirdly keep Barkley in front of you. Philly fan will be demoralized, great recipe, GO BUCS!

Aqualung your trash dude like troll status trash if this what gets you off daily you need a job and maybe a girl because anyone that trashes their own team on a constant basis must not have a life or even be a fan
