Staus Quo On Buccaneers Captains

September 3rd, 2025

The Bucs are loaded with homegrown players and adore their team culture.

Baker Mayfield gushed about the culture again this afternoon before local media during his pregame news conference.

And what is certaintly a nod to the culture, Bucs players not only elected team captains this week, head coach Todd Bowles announced it was a re-election. The captains remain the same.

Mike Evans, Tristan Wirfs and Mayfield will wear the “C” on offense, and Lavonte David, Vita Vea and Antoine Winfield Jr. on defense.

The players know best, and predictably are happy with their captains. Heck, there’s probably three Hall of Famers in that group and possibily six future Buccaneers Ring of Honor members.

Winfield looks ripped in that pic. He has definitely put on muscle…

I see four potential HOFers in that group:

    1. Evans (obviously)
    2. David (thank you card to Tom Brady for finally getting him national attention)
    3. Wirfs (if he remains one of the best tackles in the game for an extended period of time)
    4. Winfield (Look at his career so far! All Pro, SB, Pro Bowls, repeat division winning team Captain)

    Shocked Trask didn’t get a “C. “

    Oh, wait.

As good as Winfield and Wirfs are, they need to not rest on their laurels, and stay healthy, or they’ll be flashes in the pan
