Rave Reviews For Chris Godwin In Practice

September 24th, 2025

Will Chris Godwin play on Sunday against the Eagles?

Well, he’s practicing and apparently doing everything he would in a game, per Todd Bowles and Baker Mayfield comments today.

Still, both Mayfield and Bowles positioned Godwin’s return as a big maybe when it comes to Sunday. Godwin also practiced last week, but the Bucs were only doing walk-throughs after a Monday night game. This week is a more traditional week of game preparation.

Bowles talked about how it’s impossible to simulate game-style tackling, wear and recovery, even though Godwin looks great and is cutting and making all the football moves. Bowles said how Godwin feels Saturday after a full week of work will be key to the decision.

Joe’s going to guess Godwin gets on the field to some degree. He’ll get one hell of an ovation if he makes a catch, and Joe suspects the Bucs would make that happen early for Godwin with a wide receiver screen.

    Go Godwin!

    Go Bucs!

  2. Billy Bucco Says:

Hopefully a screen he then takes to the house, because he has been ready and taking it slow in his recovery.

The Emeka pick that everyone complained about (for some reason) turned out to be genius. Wed be a mess without him. Evans and/or Godwin get hurt every-single-freaking-year. It was no luxury pick. It was a NEED pick. If Godwin can be 90% of his peak, then I really like the trio of Godwin/Emeka/Shep. Then when 13 returns, Goedeke will be returning around the same time with Jalen McMillan right around the corner. We’ll be full strength and ready to steamroll the division by the saints game, and peaking at the right time. Provided there are no more setbacks.

  5. jimmy Says:

some great news. Chris is a great player and a key part of this team. happy for his recovery.

  6. GoneGator Says:

    😳😳😳 ……. Fantastic news.
I’ve been very skeptical about Chris ever returning to full Chris after the severity of his last injury BUT if he can/does it could be a HUGE bonus. Let’s go Chris πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ’ͺ🏼🏈

  7. Rayjay1122 Says:

    Perfect!!!

  8. Timbucs2 Says:

We sure as heck need him out there. Respect to Shepard but having Egbuka and Godwin both out there at once is going to automatically create mismatches.

  9. First Last Says:

We just need to make it to the bye weekend with a positive win total

  10. Coconut Doughnut Says:

Great to have him back healthy!

  11. Bucamania Says:

Eagles don’t have a second outside CB worth a darn. Godwin + Egbuka would be huge

  12. Smarter than Joe Says:

FINGERS CROSSED FOR NO MORE INJURIES

  13. ReeeBarrr Says:

Yay Chris! So glad to hear this

  14. Deuceswild78 Says:

Going to be interesting how they use him and ebuka since they say same traits

  15. BucsFan81 Says:

Hope it’s true that will fill the void of Evans being gone for the next 3 weeks. Is Wirfs playing Sunday I think him playing is even more important against that eagles front.

  16. Oldbucsfan Says:

As said, need to get Tez involved. Also, why is he not back there returning kickoffs and punts?

  17. RagingBrisket Says:

What is McMillan status? How soon can he be back in a game?

  18. Stpetematt Says:

Darn, I wish we had Evans for this game too. It would be a nightmare to try to stop all 3!

  19. drdneast Says:

The Bucs had a young up and coming receiver named Paris who suffered the same type of injury with the same type of tackle in the endzone in a meaningless preseason game. The player came back but his career fizzeled out. Hope the doesn’t happen to Godwin,

  20. David Says:

I don’t know if hitting him on a screen us the way to go. That requires a lot of quick cuts usually. I just hope he is 100% healthy, not just for Sunday but for the rest of the year!

If the left side and center of their offensive line are back to normal, and Godwin is there to help Ebuka and Shepherd, they could win this game and beat Seattle. If Tristan and Chris aren’t back, I don’t think they can win either unfortunately. Thankfully, they got off that 3–0 start and they can weather the next four weeks.

For the record, Yaya has been playing fantastic. So glad he got a sack. I know Reddick has a sack and a big tackle for loss, but I want to start seeing sacks from the edge coming in bunches.

  21. Gofortheface30 Says:

David – all a wide receiver does is cut. Why even play at all πŸ˜‚. Godwin and the trainers have spent this entire year ramping him up for this. He’ll be fine doc

  22. heyjude Says:

    Excellent news! Full steam ahead!

  23. Mort Says:

Tape that ankle up and let’s roll! (Not the ankle).

  24. capnhowdy Says:

NO SCREEN PLEASE FOR GOODWIN!!! If that screen gets sniffed out around the line of scrimmage then that means there’s probably a big round D linemen that’s going to end up on top of him and possibly that surgically repaired ankle; NO THANKS.

  25. orlbucfan Says:

Joe, when was that photo taken? Ungodly CG14 is in shoulder pads. If that was this week, that means both he and all-world OLine warrior Wirfs will be playing Sunday. IF??? Mebbe that’s another reason why the Eaglets are flying down here early. Shepherd, EE2 and his mentor CG14 playing Sunday? Wirfs coming back which will loosen the blocking the RBs and TEs have had to do? Lord gawd, screw the refs, the Bucs will have a legit shot at winning this one. 🀞🀞🀞🀞🀞🀞 Good thing I have low BP cos it’s only Wednesday, hump day. I am getting pumped!!h

  26. orlbucfan Says:

    pumped. I hate AI auto-so called edit.🀬

  27. Saskbucs Says:

    Hope he’s game ready!

If not, I still feel like this team is 4-2 at worst, heading into Monday Night at Detroit with Evans and Goedeke hopefully joining a healthy Wirfs Godwin and rest of the offense.

  28. Erik with Pilot and Driverβ„’ Says:

Eagles will be treating Mek as the #1 receiver and doubling him most-likely, so hopefully Godwin and others can get open…

Looking for Tez Johnson to also get in on the action this week.

  29. infomeplease Says:

CG14 ‘s return is needed with ME13 being sidelined with the hamstring. Also it might be time to get the RBs involved more in the passing game too. It’s also next man up for Miller, and the Johnson’s! Get it done!

  30. Jeff Says:

Let me translate. Organizational hype to justify signing a severely injured player to a long term deal.

  31. Simeon4HOF Says:

Love how all but suddenly he’s this close to balling for us again.
    Chris is coming back y’all

  32. ThatAintRight! Says:

Hopefully McMillan will be back soon too!
What about Wirfs? Is he back yet? I read it just says limited a won’t know until later in the week. I feel like they don’t seem as confident yet for a return hmm.

Hoping Wirfs is 100% and in rookie form ready to go.
If we can get him back to LT and move Barton to RT we may just come out victorious on Sunday. Hopefully we run a lot on Sunday also.
Let’s wear the eagles front-7 out to a point where they’re gassed early on. Haha.

  33. ThatAintRight! Says:

Anyone have any recommendations for maybe a veteran swing tackles possibly seeking trade at the deadline? I’d absolutely consider trading like a 4th or 5th rd pick to get quality depth if it makes a big impact in playoffs. Also I like Payne Durham as my blocking TE, but with KO on IR maybe another for ST unit would be good idea for the return game. Also can we keep Tucker as the return guy. These other guys make me nervous right now.
