Luke Goedeke Proud He And Tristan Wirfs Will Be Bucs’ Bookends For A While

September 4th, 2025

Entrenched.

A cool thing about the Bucs is it seems that they all hang out together, at least on the offensive line.

And yes, that includes Baker Mayfield.

Bucs tackles Tristan Wirfs and Luke Goedeke have grown tight. They’re offseason workout buddies and yesterday when discussing his new contract with the Bucs, Goedeke admitted playing a few more years with Wirfs was a goal.

“It means everything to us,” Goedeke said. “We have talked about this — even before he signed his extension, like, ‘Hey, let’s play 10-plus years here in Tampa together and make our dreams a reality.'”

Goedeke noted how close he felt to being sent packing from the Bucs. As a rookie, he started at left guard and he was benched for poor play.

The following offseason, the Bucs told Wirfs they were moving him to left tackle and Goedeke would be moved to right tackle. Wirfs had already established himself as one of the game’s best offensive linemen. Goedeke noted Wirfs could have refused to move and that would have left Goedeke as a man without a position.

“[Wirfs] means the world to me,” Goedeke said. “If he did not switch to left tackle, I do not know where I would be today — might be on a different team or might still be a left guard, who knows?

“Very thankful for him, just conversations we have had. It was very exciting when he signed his extension. Love Tristan [Wirfs] to death; he called me last night after he saw the news and congratulated me. It is just great being able to play football with one of your best friends — him playing on the opposite side and going to war with him week-in, week-out.”

Chemistry is a weird thing. Offensive lines need to gel and excel. But no one can predict chemistry. No one can force it. It has to be authentic.

And the Bucs certainly have chemistry on their offensive line, both on the field and off.

Sure will feel better when Luke’s bestie gets back non the field..

  4. Aqualung Says:

They have natural chemistry, the HC/DC tries to force chemistry by giving lectures on physical chemistry and the dual particle/wave nature of photons.

  5. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Bucs are going to have a top 3 offensive line for the next 4 years, if not longer.

Best friend.. “ he called me last night after he saw the news and congratulated me.

  9. PSL Bob Says:

I never fully appreciated the importance of a cohesive and strong O line was until I really started getting into the nuances of football. The Bucs have a great o-line now, and as long as they stay together as a unit, they will only get better. Hurry back Tristan!

    BEAT ATLANTA!!!

It’s like Warren Sapp said, offensive linemen hang out together. They’re like cattle

  11. Allen Lofton Says:

The offensive line is a top 5 in THE NFL Now let’s get the defense in the top 10 and you have Super Bowl 🏈 contending team.

Brady changed the culture of the Bucs. The Bucs are playing for their fifth straight Division title. A Division title in 2025 will be a franchise and NFL record of five straight years.

Brady set the standard and the entire Buccaneer organization is in lock step 🚶‍♂️to make history in the NFL.

  12. Fred McNeil Says:

I was thinking they were planning to put Chuckwumba there next year. Guess they plan on keeping him as swing tackle starting next year. Don’t know what to think about Heck yet.

  13. Beeej Says:

Chuckwumba went from undrafted to being an important part of an NFL team, added bonus, he’d be tickled pink to get like 800,000 a year

  14. BucU Says:

Let’s hope we’re still relevant by the time Wirf’s comes back.

  15. JA Says:

Seems logical to hang with your own kind. Offensive lineman are often considered the most intelligent group on each team. They can sit around discuss Plato’s Allegory of The Cave and the true nature of reality while imagining the cave’s fire shadows to be defensive lineman they need to extinguish.
Meanwhile, the rest of the guys can debate the merits of the newest video game.
    Makes sense indeed!

  16. ChiBuc Says:

he called me last night …

That’s still a thing, ppl calling each other? How sweet and nostalgic. I’d of figured an Instagram reel at best

  17. Leopold Stotch Says:

Proud of the young man from Valders. I met some of his extended family by chance after his rookie year. Very happy for him repping Wisconsin so well. Go Bucs!

  18. SlyPirate Says:

    ODD THOUGHT …

Are we whitnessing the best offensive line in the history of the team past, present, and future? I can imagine these guys developing but I can’t imagine we’ll ever have more talent on the OL … ever.

  19. BucsFan81 Says:

Probably a long shot but I really hope we get Wirfs back for the home opener against the Jets

  20. Robert Azrak Says:

The O-lineman room is probably the tightest positional player room on most teams. It appears the Bucs have an exceptionally cohesive group on the field, in the locker room and maybe off the field as well. Very fortunate situation.

    True. Well said Joe!

We truly have a special team. Licht has created a team with strong brotherhood, integrity and passion. Those great assets to have a strong mindset of accountability.

A little blessing from the health gods will bring us another Super Bowl.

    Awesome Joe! Keep it coming.

    Go Bucs!!!!

  22. Jack Meoff Says:

Bucs need to sign Colin Kaepernick at once

  23. Stpetebucsfan Says:

And its great to have the QB as an honorary member of that group. Baker pays more than just lip service, presents and props, he actually hangs with them and gets the weird chemistry of OLs, he’s one of them.
