Jeff Driskel > Kyle Trask?

September 3rd, 2025

Joe needed a couple of days to process this before posting.

The Raiders recently signed veteran quarterback Jeff Driskel to their practice squad. The former Gators quarterback was a sixth-round pick of the 49ers in 2016, and he’s joining his ninth NFL team. He has a 1-11 record as an NFL starter and has appeared in 25 games.

This is somewhat mind-blowing considering recently cut Bucs backup QB Kyle Trask is unemployed.

Tom Brady, Trask’s former Bucs teammate, calls a lot of shots now as a Raiders owner and Raiders general manager John Spytek was part of the Bucs front office team that drafted Trask. Both guys spent years around Trask and have a pipeline to Trask intel, yet it appears neither was interested in the 2021 second-round draft pick.

Man, it’s just stunning that 32-year-old Driskel has a job and Trask doesn’t.

Is it possible Trask doesn’t want to continue his career?

  1. Hodad Says:

Give it a rest with Trask Joe. Like beating a dead horse!

  2. RVATom Says:

So many things are possible. One thing that really feels like a constant is how few former (capable)Bucs continue their careers at other NFL stops once cut from this team? I’d love to see a stat on this. I’d it the team?.is it the player? Is it the perceived coaching? Is it coincidence? Weird.

He will find a spot once someone gets hurt. Or New Orleans will bring him on the practice squad 2 weeks before a Bucs matchup for Intel and then cut him shortly after the prep or game.

  3. Doughboy Says:

Kyle will eventually get a shot as a backup. Has a live arm. Don’t blame him for not wanting a practice squad job , I wouldn’t if I was him.

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Joe…why not question why Trask isn’t on our practice squad.
    Already did. –Joe

  5. BayouBullet Says:

Just can’t let it go Joe

  6. Kidfloflo Says:

But, but ,but he was gonna win the starting spot from Baker!? Nonsense…I will be really pissed if he does go to a rival like someone mentioned and they pick his brain for our new offensive schemes! He needs to lay low all year and count his millions are far as I’m concerned at this point

  7. Aqualung Says:

It is probable that Trask simpl;y sucks, which is something knowledgable fans have been saying since the beginning.

  8. First Last Says:

Well, I think it is probably because word spread around the league that Trask runs an angry fan account on JoeBucs.com and posts on every trask article. I think the name was RodMunch? He has been quiet since Trask left

  9. MikeBuc Says:

    @First Last

ROFL…still I wouldn’t insult trask with that comparison

  10. BA’s Red Pen Says:

I went to at least one Bucs practice every year Trask was here. He absolutely does not have a live arm as stated above. He does not have that NFL zip on the ball and it’s clear to see. He processes information slowly and has the personality of a coffee table. He just isn’t any good and it’s time for the occult of Trask members to wake up to reality….. but they won’t.

  11. Chip M Says:

    Joe,

Pretty pathetic question unless you enjoy rubbing salt into somebody’s wounds.

Really do not understand your need to do this.

Appreciate a great deal of your insights. Not this.

  12. infomeplease Says:

You mean to tell me that Jacksonville, Carolina, and Las Vegas aren’t in a bidding war to get ex KT2? Oh man!!

  13. jb47 Says:

Kyle trask = Christian Hackenburg. Plain and simple.

  14. MikeBuc Says:

As I understand it Trask is already paid so not sure why Trask and his agent would go for a practice squad position at his age. IN a sacking game A Qb is bound to go down and open up a second or third position

As an alleged Baker BOi lets not go to an extreme – WE SIGNED HIM FOR THIS YEAR as a number 2 so thinking his NFL career is necessarily over is a bit of a stretch.

  15. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

The premise of this is kind of ridiculous.

You mention the reason in the article, Driskel has a record as a starter and has been in the league about twice as long as Trask. Kyle would be better off going to a team like the Colts, they don’t have a QB at all

  16. View from 132 Says:

    UFL bound.

  17. ModHairKen Says:

Why is anyone still talking about Trask? What next Chris Chandler?

  18. Kenton Smith Says:

BA’s Red Pen, I’d say you touched all the bases with that one. And Joes, if Brady and Spytek won’t touch him that’s information I need. But I don’t want it. Because Trask was our backup the last two years and our brass knew it. I saw the Sooners embarras the kid his last year at Florida but trusted he had something going on I couldn’t see. I still trust Licht and Bowles but that was something that should have been done a few years ago.

  19. Crack3rK Says:

Joe, is it just possible nobody wants Trask? I agree with Hodad– give it a rest already. Click Bait for Gainesville.

  20. Aqualung Says:

Why give it a rest? The Trashkophiles and their Trashk Suppression Conspiracy Theory were so flagrantly wrong, they deserve all the in your face embarrassment that can be mustered. Coen? Nope. Canales? Nope. Brady/Spytek? Nope.

All “saw what we have in Trask” and are holding their noses like hes a week old carp dead in their bathtubs.

    ROTFLMAO

  21. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

    BA’s Red Pin nailed it.

    Coffee table – lol!

  22. HC Grover Says:

Enough. We have Bilgewater to worry about now. At this point who cares.

  23. Fan of the South Says:

Hmm. Unexpected time off, money in the bank, and a beautiful young Wife.
Perhaps the Man just wants to lean back against the headboard and clear his head
    while enjoying some.

  24. Tony Says:

I think Pitts made Trask look as good as he did when they were still together.

  25. Tony Says:

Even Zach Wilson is still playing & he hasn’t done much.

  26. Nano107 Says:

    Trask = Trash
Couldn’t beat Teddy who was out of football
Joe, I think you need to accept and move on
    Poor guy is terrible

  27. BucsBulletin Says:

When did Trask ever show he deserved a shot? Guy was camp meat from day 1
If he’s your backup and forced into action, your season is over. Plain and simple

  28. BucsfaninOregon Says:

Joe, I think covering a guy we kept for years for no reason and nobody wants him now IS newsworthy! Last year we were depending on Trask to save the season if Baker went down and this year he is MIA. That’s news in the pre-season. When the bullets fly starting this weekend He gone!

  29. The Big Sombreo Says:

Doesn’t Trask have an arm injury?

he was released with a medical issue.

  30. Aqualung Says:

Where’s Trask to the Stupid when you need a good laugh?!

  31. The Big Sombreo Says:

“Kyle Trask recently suffered a shoulder injury during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 2025 preseason finale, which led to the team releasing him with an injury settlement. He was placed on injured reserve before the settlement, which allows him to be free to sign with another team once he is healthy.”

  32. BigBoiBuc Says:

Im shocked Canales didnt take him on PS over Hendon Hooker. Maybe he inquired and Trask refused a PS offer. Bryce Young too small not to get hurt and KT would at least be activated if not have a chance to beat out Andy Dalton.

  33. Obvious One Says:

Wow, THE FEAR IS REAL! I didn’t realize that Even With the guy Gone, some are still terrified of the apparently Towering TRASK! I guess it’s best to beat the dead horse “Just I case he comes back to haunt”!

The Fear IS Real! The scam was real. Bakers record before being gifted the job Was Real………. And the Absolute Doubt was Real!

Let’s see, a guy with a fantastically bad record or a new prospect with unknown potential? And some of you guys were surprised that everybody didn’t jump down and slurp Mayfield like yourselves? Sure….

In the end… it was fortunate for us that Baker decided to take it seriously because we were the last stop on the merry go round for him. And I for one am glad he DID focus up and Become the Man and Quarterback for my team that he is today.

Other than the “payed by his manager” guys (That you may notice are LONG GONE), I don’t get the Continued FEAR???!

Show some class because a little something called “Couth” is a Real Thing to..

(Unless you’re ABSOLUTELY CONVINCED that the Towering Trask will Destroy and Embarrass Mayfield in a shoot out game after Trask joins his new team) Is that what it is? Is THAT the reason for the TERROR and FEAR of little Ole Trask?

PERPLEXING to me! But like I said. The Fear IS Real for some….

  34. Mveal2006 Says:

Brady admiited that running for a qb is now more important than reading defenses due to 5 second plays being the norm

  35. AMI_Chris Says:

The guy has had almost zero regular season NFL snaps. At best, he’s a practice squad guy that MIGHT respond to different coaching.

  36. Joe in Michigan Says:

I never cared about Trask, even when he played for the Bucs…Just glad he never had to play in a meaningful game.

  37. orlbucfan Says:

Trask got paid a few million by the Bucs. If he was smart and invested it wisely, no reason why he can’t consider other career ideas.

Ditto the Todd Blows turd hunters. Predictions noted 😉.

  39. Gipper Says:

Hoping that Trask can restart his career somewhere. Licht and Co. must have seen enough to resign him this year. It is certain that he will get another chance to join a team after the first several games of the season. Wishing him well. Really don’t get the mentality of those who want to beat him up. He was a good enough player at Florida State to attract the Bucs. Good size and seems level headed. Give the guy a break and wish him well.

  40. RustyRhinos Says:

Was Trask not released with an injury?

Do you hire injured folks JBF? I have 8 bulged discs. I am only 59. I can carry coffee, beer, Rum, Ira’s buffet plate… thanks for this opportunity…

Good luck, Trask in your future.

    Our QB #2 is Bridgewater.
    Full steam ahead!

    GO!!!!! BUCS!!!!!

  41. Tony D Says:

I saw a report stating that Trask has a shoulder injury and reached an injury settlement with the Bucs following his release and will probably sign with another team as soon as he is healthy again. Not accurate. –Joe

  42. Shane Callahan Says:

If there hadn’t been so many Trask loving/ Baker haters on this site for the past two years, this would be a non-story. LET IT GO.

    GO BUCS!!!

  43. Shane Callahan Says:

Ps, Good luck Kyle you rich, lucky man.

  44. RASH Says:

stinks like they all do nuff said
