Emeka Egbuka Takes Kyle Trask’s Number

September 1st, 2025

Emeka Egbuka is among many Bucs number changes.

If Joe were a true conspiracy nut, then, well, never mind.

The Buccaneers announed today that rookie receivers Emeka Egbuka and Tez Johnson changed numbers.

Egbuka, the first-round pick, took ousted quarterback Kyle Trask’s No. 2. For those in denial, Trask was cut last week. Egbuka wore No. 2 at Ohio State University and was wearing No. 9 in preseason.

Johnson, the seventh-round pick, grabbed No. 15 rather and ditched No. 83. The smallest guy in the NFL wanted a single digit or at least a number in the teens. A fashionista, Johnson didn’t like the fit of two wide numbers. Not only did he say this on a podcast, Joe had a discussion with Johnson about it. Jalen McMillan, the former No. 15, is now No. 11.

Punter Riley Dixon dumped No. 92 (Will Gholston’s old number) and is now N0. 9, a number much more befitting a punter. Backup QB Teddy Bridgewater is now No. 10, and practice squad QB Connor Bazelak is now No. 8.

How could would it have been if Bazelak had secured No. 2.

There’s no conspiracy, l said it when Mayfield had the hand contusion. And Trask was working with the starters in camp. Licht and Bowles didn’t like what they seen with Trask. So they brought in Bridgewater, without working him out, to be the backup QB. Trask fate was sealed, but Licht and Bowles played it off. Constantly misleading the fanbase, they started Bridgewater with the Bucs starters, against the Steelers backups. That was the beginning of the end for Trask. They saying Trask was the 2nd string QB

But they knew he was gone
I have to give credit to Licht and Bowles
They knows how to manipulate this fanbase .

QB Connor Bazelak is now No. 16

    He was 8 during preseason

  3. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Never been a big fan of #2. 9 would be much better but it really, really makes no difference. BTW can we let the Trask era fade away now? Let’s concentrate on the guys we have not the ones we don’t.

  4. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Maybe Trask can get work something out with Daewood Davis when he signs with the Memphis Showboats.

  5. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Also, everyone knows we’ll either draft a qb next year (not in 1,2 or 3) or be players in FA market for one (more likely). Get your guesses in now for who we get.

  6. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Bazelakalaka gonna twice as good now.

  7. LakelandBuc Says:

Kyle Trask was a wasted 2nd round draft pick
JTS was even worse as a first round draft pick

That was Licht worst draft, it was an F
    They all are gone now,
Licht got comfortable after winning the Super Bowl

    We talking about numbers
    Numbers

  9. Hodad Says:

Egbuka took his number. Todd took his soul. Teddy took his job. Trask took 5 million from the Bucs. I’d say even stevens.

maybe baz is the next tom brady

  11. JimBobBuc Says:

Trask will get #2 after the dust settles between Spytek, Canales, and Coen fighting it out to pick him up.

  12. Hunter Says:

Already the best #2 in Bucs history

  13. Hunter Says:

And the best #9 in Bucs history. Hasn’t even taken a snap yet. Good job

  14. Pickgrin Says:

Most of these changes are guys getting their #s back that they wore in College…

    Egbuka was #2 at OSU
    McMillan was #11 at Washington
Tez was #15 at both Troy and Oregon
Josh Williams was #18 at LSU

Bridgewater was #10 with the Lions (#5 most of his career but Reddick had that # locked up…)
Dixon wore #9 with the Broncos and Giants

Really glad I didn’t buy a #9 Egbuka jersey yet – it would be about as useful as the Devin White jersey wadded up amongst other rags in the garage….

I’m sure anyone who paid $150 or whatever for a #9 Egbuke or who previously bought a #15 McMillan are NOT happy about this….

    Traskies rule!!!!!

Joe, I know you are enjoying this. You are milking the cow until the last drop. lol
Did you really had to show Kyle’s name crossed out on the 53 player list?
    Milk it all the way!!!!!

You do make it entertaining here.

Hope you are having a great weekend. May you double the hits this coming season. Thanks for your hard work. 🙏

JimBobBuc I hate to break it to you but after Trask was cut Canales grabbed a qb off the waiver wire, and it wasn’t the old Gator.

The Bucs team shop and Fanatics have announced that they will replace the #9 Egbuke jerseys with a #2 jersey free of any charge……

  18. Kenton Smith Says:

If Egbuka is a hall of famer that jersey with the #9 will probably be worth 10 times a jersey with the #2.

  19. JoeD Says:

Now add them all up and divide by three…

Happy that Buka got his Ohio number back. May bring him a lot of luck.

  22. JimBobBuc Says:

@Drunk Bucs Fan, sorry I should have made my sarcasm more evident. The fact that he wasn’t picked up by people that know him is telling.
