Emeka Egbuka Has An Answer To His Early Success

September 27th, 2025

Preparation is the key.

Through three games Bucs rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka, who tomorrow likely will be the Bucs’ No. 1 receiver, has three touchdowns.

But it isn’t just his touchdowns that have opened eyes. It’s his hands that have made fans and media take notice.

So why is he having so much success? Appearing on “Up and Adams,” hosted by Kay Adams, seen weekdays on FanDuel TV, Egbuka summed up the source of his early impact on the NFL in one word: practice.

“I would say, like everything that happens, is practice is harder than the game,” Egbuka said. “It’s structured that way on purpose, so that when you get out there to the game, you can just fly around and make plays and kind of do what you’re taught.

“[Then], it’s just killer instinct at that point. So we try to do everything in practice.”

It isn’t that Bucs practices are Marine boot camp hard and difficult, Egbuka said. Rather, Egbuka noted Todd Bowles throws everything he can think of at the Bucs offense so they can be prepared.

“Obviously, we try to get the right looks and stuff, but [Bowles and his defensive assistants] they throw stuff at us that we’re not expecting every single time,” Egbuka said. “So that we’re able to react and learn and grow.

“So, you know, kind of through all camp, there were challenges that came our way, just from what Coach Bowles was throwing at us.”

One common denominator Joe has noticed from top teams, programs and coaches is preparation. When teams are prepared for anything and everything, they are more likely to execute in the most stressful times.

Given how the Bucs have been the most clutch team in the NFL in the final minute of play through three weeks, maybe Egbuka is onto something.

Just another example of what a superior head coach does to get his team game ready.

Mech giving credit where credit is due 😎

Baker also gave Todd props for the preparation during off season and practices that made 3 comebacks possible.

Sirrianni is a big Todd fan too.

Do they need to talk to waterboy to be corrected?

    Let’s go Bucs 🏈

it is clear that the bucs are the only team in the nfl that practices. especially special teams.

Practicing with a purpose is what practice in anything is all about. I loved it, it was still football and then the learning aspect was the icing. It’s funny to see fans, me included, go whatthehellwasthatpickohitmaybesmarthellyeahgolichtandBucs from draft night till now.

I didn’t put all those pauses in there. PC freaked

  9. Aqualung Says:

Well, the defense wilts like old spinach in crunch time, and in the heat, and at the beginning of games. That’s some excellent preparation.

    @todd

    Exactly.

I’m of the firm belief that 90% of Bowles haters and critics are just racist.

It’s the only thing that can explain why any Bucs fan would hate Todd Bowles.

We have the best locker room in the NFL.

We have the best culture in the NFL.

We are building a dynasty through the draft.

    Every NFL coach admires Bowles.

    Every QB fears his blitzes.

We have won a Super Bowl with Bowles as our DC.

I am really sickened by the Bowles haters on this site.

Teacherman , I would say most of us appreciate the coach and culture that we have. We have 2 guys one who can’t form a sentence and the other that still thinks he is aquaman. They never have anything useful to say. It’s always negative. I really wish they would just go away.

  12. Aqualung Says:

#999PoundFatGuy — it is heartening to Aualung to know you are that bothered and triggered by fact based critical commentary. The other maroon should be very careful throwing around accusations involving racism especially when there’s no way to know what the color of anyone’s skin is on these message strings.

  13. Jaxson Says:

    Teacher –

I still haven’t forgiven Bowles for the 2022 Playoff loss to the Rams. That should have been one of the greatest Bucs comeback games and wins in Bucs history, but Bowles’ defensive calls and play completely collapsed in the final minutes and allowed the Rams to win. It was tragic and unforgivable. Brady should have gotten his 8th SB ring in 2022, if it wasn’t for Bowles.

If the Bucs win the SB this year, I’ll finally drop my grudge against Bowles. So get them to the BOWL, Bowles.

  14. Buc1987 Says:

    Jaxson…clearly you’re a racist. 🙂

Lol – you’re white, dummy, and everybody knows it 🤣

We’d be happy to hear “fact based critical commentary” of our HC.
Instead it’s genius, gout, Swiss cheese, bleachers, dual hat, maroon, pom pom, cupcake, bullshlt every single day.

I’m not calling you a racist, but you can’t deny you’re bigoted and prejudiced towards Mr Bowles.

Aqualung I would have thought your head exploded after reading that quote from EE

Reptiles with no cerebral cortex have an impossible task of grasping reality. It’s understandable that such poor individuals suffer.

  18. Aqualung Says:

Bowles is a second to none great HR executive. This is not for debate. It’s clear. Aqualung very much likes what he knows of Todd Bowles, although never have met in person, its likely multiple beers consumed would lead to some guffawing and chortling.

What else is not for debale is, Todd’s defense has a record of squandering 4th quarter leads including every game this season. The record is also undebatable — one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL over the course of his full Bucs tenure, even when he had a real boss.

Players love Bowles, this is not for debate. Aqualung is happy about this.

Just fix Todd’s foot that then could result in better pass defense at crunch time with a lead, and maybe there’s a chance to be better than losing to a rookie in the playoffs by never forcing one punt.

  19. #99 the big fella Says:

Aqualung just get through a post without bashing Todd
I know you can do it. It might be hard but you can do it.

  20. Stpetematt Says:

Bowles is a great coach. We are playing against other professional athletes so anything can happen. Well-timed blitzes and combination plays between the line and secondary will keep this defense doing well. Tighter coverage leads to more sacks. Our corners are very good now. Hopefully, Bowles is realizing staying in our defense and not altering the game plan when we are way up is the smart thing to do. I think the Bucs win this game.
That should shut a lot of people up.

  21. orlbucfan Says:

Jaxson, what rock did you crawl out from under? Hey, go back to Jax. Coen and Jags need all the help they can get. The 2022 Playoff Loss to the Rams??? Boo-hoo-hoo. Brady was no longer mentally/emotionally involved with this team. His mind was somewhere else starting with domestic problems. He was also feeling his age. Rams were a powerhouse by then. You know zilch about Cardiac Bucs and heartbreaking losses. See ya (hope not).
