Chase McLaughlin Makes NFL History
September 28th, 2025
NFL record.
At least the Bucs got something right with the special teams today.
Man, Sunday was such a dismal day. Rotten outcome. Eagles fans everywhere turned The Licht House into Lincoln Financial Field South.
At least there was a ray of sunshine for the Bucs.
Kicker Chase McLaughlin made history today. On the final play of the first half, McLaughlin’s 65-yard field goal attempt barely got over the crossbar. Barely. For good reason.
As it turned out, McLaughlin booted the longest outdoor field goal in NFL history. All the other field goals made as long or longer than McLaughlin were kicked indoors.
In 2021, Justin Tucker of the Crows hit a 66-yard field goal in Detroit. Ford Field is a dome.
Last year, Brandon Aubrey of the Cowboys kicked a 65-yard field goal. Jerry’s World is a dome.
The previous high for an outdoor field goal was Broncos kicker Matt Prater’s 64-yarder in 2013, kicked in Denver.
Later in the second half, McLaughlin nailed a 58-yard field goal, too.
McLaughlin’s record-setting kick also established a new Bucs record, besting the 62-yard field goal in Tampa at the end of regulation that beat the Eagles 23-21 in 2006. Matt Bryant’s kick came in the final seconds.
Joe and Ira Kaufman briefly spoke with McLaughlin after the game and told him how his field goal was the longest outdoor kick in NFL history. Not only had he not heard that, he thought Joe and Ira were pulling his chain.
Nope. No lie. A Bucs player holds an NFL record. A good record.

This was amazing. Highlight of the loss.

Chase was thrilling today. I bet Ira and Joe made his day letting him know he holds a record. Good stuff.

Way to go Chase!

We’re getting good FG kicking (McLaughlin has recovered from his poor start) and good returning in the kickoff/punt part of the game, but the o-line, coverage, and punter on special teams needs some serious tweaking.

Keep him. Fire the punter and hire one that used to play Rugby or Aussie Rules and runs off to the side

Get the Punter from the Miami Hurricanes.

Welcome Chase!

Welcome back I meant.

Life is funny…this dude.was in the verge of being run out of town and at least having another kicker brought in to mess with his head and confidence after Texans game…then Bowles has him trot out for a 56 oder agaisnt the Jets for his first kick of game…a very low % kick…he misses that, its in his head even more and team has him one foot out the door…then they back it up with next kick even farther! Makes that…and now today he sets a team record and damn near an NFL record and has a statue out front of stadium of him soon! His fate and status on team and in fans hearts went from proverbial zero to hero damn quick! Glad he faced his fate like a stud, otherwise we’d all be saying at end of year, when he was kicking game winning FGs for another team…”why did we cut him again!?, I always liked him”

That kick gave the team some juice. Came out of halftime with power.

So glad we have the real Chase back!

Highlight of the loss?
It was a good kick and cool to see our K back on track but the long TDs to Emeka and Bucky were nice highlights. Also really enjoyed seeing big man Vita dance after sack #2.

He’s back!
September 28th, 2025 at 7:42 pm
And to think people on this site wanted to cut him after week 2.

Fantastic seeing that kick!
Just incredible!
Bravo Chase!
As much as our special team blocking sucks, our kicking and return game has never been better.
I think a lot of our former special team linemen are in the starting offensive line now.
Gotta affect special teams

He’ll never replace Donald Igwebuike as my favorite all-time Bucs kicker, but he’s in the running for #2.
