Big Names Land On Bucs’ First Official Injury Report

September 3rd, 2025

Ouch!

A couple of Bucs defensive beasts were unexpectedly seen on today’s injury report, the first official release of 2025.

Free agent edge rusher Haason Reddick had a personal issue not related to injury and did not practice. Vita Vea has a bad foot and did not practice. Damn, huge man with bad foot is never a good thing. This was the first report of Vea being injured.

Also a revelation today was Cade Otton’s injury, previously described by Todd Bowles as a lower body issue. Otton has a groin issue and was limited in practice today. This summer, Otton missed time with a bad hamstring. Apparently, the hammy is in good shape.

Safety Christian Izien is still dealing with an oblique issue and did not practice.

The full list is below.

Get well soon, Vita!

  1. Rod Munch Says:

Can they please go ahead and rule Godwin out already. That way I can put him on IR in fantasy. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

  2. LakelandBuc Says:

This team has more Question marks, than an episode of Jeopardy

We probably have to wait until the 3rd quarter Sunday
To see who’s healthy, who’s playing

  3. Jmarkbuc Says:

So we’re calling Morrison’s injury quad now, huh?

  4. drdneast Says:

Wo’;t be surprised i this ‘personal” issue with Reddick spills over to the game on Sunday. This guy is a headcase, just like Gregory was last season. Doubt if he will be on the field. this is what happens when you try to solve your problems with a cheap answer.

  5. Woodman Says:

Rod he he not going IR so in most fantasy leagues you can not put him IR you have to just bench and take up a roster spot.

  6. buc4evr Says:

Half the defense will be on IR by game 5. I don’t expect anything until I see who shows up to play. Better get the practice squad ready to play in real games and find as many guys that were cut by other teams as the Bucs can. Oh and Dean probably won’t make it past the second quarter on Sunday.

  7. Woodman Says:

Why don’t wait to see what happens drd you idiot.

  8. Common sense Says:

Dang shame there were no premoer elite pass rushers available in the last 3 months to sure up this already injured questionable defense

  9. Stpetematt Says:

I expect Vea, Reddick, Hayes and Tucker will play Sunday. Maybe Otton.

Wouldn’t call $15Mill “a cheap answer.” Otherwise, I have a lot of concerns with Reddick. To review: when your employer- last year– is paying you big money to play, you don’t pout, you play. Nothing about this Reddick deal feels right. Starting Sunday, I hope this guy proves me wrong.

  11. HC Grover Says:

    Prepare for Bowles excuse session.

  12. unbelievable Says:

Ugh, don’t like hearing that about Vea…

  13. #99 the big fella Says:

Holy moly let’s see what happens Sunday before everyone goes into meltdown mode.

  14. drdneast Says:

Gipper, couldn’t agree with you more. All these writers have been hyping this guy up in the offseason and if he played during preseason i missed his overwhelming presence.

  15. Lightningvinny Says:

At least Josh “Willie Mays” Hayes was a full go,,, so we got that going for us

  16. PSL Bob Says:

I swear to God, this is where I think many fans come to bathe in pessimism. Let’s just pump the brakes a little and see what unfolds on Sunday. If the Bucs implode, like many of you predict, then you can start pointing fingers. In mean time, why not get the beer and bourbon ready for Sunday.

    BEAT ATLANTA!!

  17. JimBobBuc Says:

Is it going to be another year when the Falcons win the injury battle with the Bucs? The Falcons have about half the number of players on the injury report today.

Aaron Schatz wrote an article “2024 AGL: 49ers Get Smacked Down by Injuries” in which he ranked the teams injuries based on impact. The Falcons had the fourth least impactful injuries and the Bucs were 17th in 2024. Combining 2023 and 2024 data, the Falcons were 2nd best in the league (to Chicago) and the Bucs were 13th best.

Looking at the 2024 teams rankings having the least significant injuries has a lot of playoff teams:

    1. BAL
    2. PHI
    3. CHI
    4. ATL
    5. WAS
    6. DEN
    7. GB
    8. BUF
    9. JAX
    10.MIN

It’s time for Licht to improve our S&C staff and raid the Bears or Falcons. For now I hope that the Bucs get lucky this year and can stay healthy.

Stay healthy and beat the Falcons!

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Carl Nicks’ toe will heal very soon…

    Vita Vea??

    ———-

No, he just has to be ruled out – then he can be moved to IR in all fantasy leagues I’ve ever played in. Not sure why they’re not already doing that since they know he’s not going to play – the updated official status is doubtful as opposed to out, which I guess they’ll update on Friday. Just going to earn the Bucs some big time hatred by fantasy geeks for not just making it official and freeing up that roster spot.

    ——–

Reddick played in the Steelers game, I remember since people commented how appropriate it was his first snap in Bowles defense was him dropping into coverage.

  22. mj Says:

    ok the sky IS falling

  23. geno711 Says:

Rod you play in a relaxed rule fantasy league. The commissioner in most leagues can set the rules on what qualifies as IR. But to be clear – I don’t play in any ESPN QBR leagues like you do.

  24. Wayne perez Says:

Coach said Godwin out till October

  25. firethecannons Says:

does Bowles saay it will prevent him from game day?

  26. Scotty Mack Says:

C’mon Rod. Hopefully you have other receivers to play if you drafted well. Godwin is a stash that should have come cheap/late and he should be up to speed by the time any of your other receivers/flex have their first bye week. Of course, if THEY get injured and you need the spot, hopefully THEY end up on IR.

  27. Scotty Mack Says:

Wayne Perez, actually, no, coach has never said that. Jason Licht, the Bucs GM, said “maybe, you know, October”, adding, “it’s a little bit week-to-week.”

That’s an answer that could also be interpreted as “maybe next week.”

Either way, I don’t recall any Bucs coach definitively stating October, contrary to what pundits have reported incorrectly.

  28. Scotty Mack Says:

As if I know anything, the only players I expect to miss the game are Wirfs, Gowin and Izien.

Either way, win or lose, I’m cheering for them and will support the entire team regardless of how the chips fall. (I might throw some things at the TV and cuss every now and then, though.)

  29. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Rod Munch, why sdid you even draft him?

  30. richbucsfan Says:

What the heck is wrong with this team and injuries before the first game? It happens every year. Incredible.

  31. SC Bucs Fan Says:

4 division titles yet still the trolls are well fed. Some people are happiest when they are unhappy.

  32. Defense Rules Says:

This is ludicrous, 9 players banged up for Game 1. The one that’ll hurt the most? Vita Vea. We lose him & we’ll be soooo screwed.

  33. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Man, you some of you guys whine more than a vineyard

  34. FairMinded Says:

Reddick was an absolute nom factor last year. Why are we banking on this guy? Hope he gets it together

  35. Gotti-Dog-05-20-84 Says:

If a live action Winnie the Pooh movie ever gets made the casting line for Eeyore will start here………the auditions are going great so far

  36. Slacker Says:

Putting any faith in Reddick is ridiculous. Until he proves it on the field, hes basically another JTS

  37. Kenton Smith Says:

Defense Rules, I’ve been able to stomach most of these injuries. But not Vea. Please not Vea.

  38. Aqualung Says:

The only thing on the Bucs worse than this inept training staff and medical team is the pass defense, overseen by a part timer.

  39. B Says:

Last year teaches us we can loose anybody but Evans and be competitive (until the playoffs). And Baker, obviously. There is no real reason to believe this defense will be any different until we just give up and go full bend but don’t break between the 20’s to give up field goals instead of tds and rely on scoring 20 plus a game.

Rod Munch, why sdid you even draft him?

    ——–

Because he’s cheap, and when he’s back healthy, he’s a WR1 you got for the cost of a WR4. IR in the fantasy world is just a week to week thing, so the second he’s healthy, you activate him. But for now, he’s taking up a bench spot, and you want to use those bench spots to add other players who might be available, generally backup RBs who might suddenly find themselves starting if someone gets injured. Or, maybe you grab a 2nd defense for next week if there’s a good matchup available, etc. Most leagues have 5 or 6 bench slots.

    ————–

I’m not aware of any fantasy QBR leagues, but I legitimately like the idea – would mean QBs who get garbage stats are less valuable than QBs who are actually good but put up lesser numbers. I’ll have to look into it.

  42. BucNWaterBoy Says:

@Rod HERE HERE!! I second that. I need to open up a slot on my bench.

  43. UGotRobbed Says:

Good grief! Are we ever going to have a start of a season where are starting defensive tackles are healthy! Unbelievable!

  44. Pewter Pirate Says:

Joe: Is there a press conference with Bowles today to address the Vea injury?

  45. Joe Says:

Joe: Is there a press conference with Bowles today to address the Vea injury?

No. No Bowles today. Thursdays are Josh Grizzard’s days.

Bowles will talk tomorrow morning after practice.

  46. Kidfloflo Says:

How the Hell does Vea not play all pre season protect him for pivotal division game, and now days before has a bad wheel!?? Incredulous, these dudes would never make it as mailman, ive played hurt for 20+ years now
