“Very Sticky” Benjamin Morrison Has Unique Skillset

August 2nd, 2025

Rookie cornerback Benjamin Morrison (left) has Todd Bowles’ attention.

There are many reasons Tampa Bay drafted rookie cornerback Benjamin Morrison, and head coach Todd Bowels identified one on national television that isn’t talked about often.

Morrisson is working as an outside during this year’s training camp, but it seems he’s a backup behind Jamel Dean and Zyon McCollum. How long that lasts is unclear.

Asked about young players shining on NFL Network yesterday, Bowles didn’t hesitiate to love his rookie corners.

“We got Morrison who’s coming off injury from Notre Dame. Very sticky corner. Very few corners can read receivers at the top of the route and he can do that very well,” Bowles said.

“And then we got [Jacob] Parrish out of Kansas State. We’re playing him on the inside but he’s a damn good outside corner. Very sticky as well, very tough. We all would like [defensive backs] that were wrestlers in high school. He’s one of those guys. Very tough.”

What really struck Joe was the enthusiasm in Bowles’ voice. That’s not common for the head coach.

With first-round pick wide receiver Emeka Egbuka and an intense cornerbacks battle, Bowles has almost made preseason fun again. The Bucs open the preaseason one week from today at The Licht House against Tennessee.

Tennessee ready?! LOL. What’s old Lovie Smith up to these days, anyway? There’s always room for another arrogant know it all with a superiority complex on a YouTube podcast.

  2. PSL Bob Says:

Bowles seemed very relaxed during that interview. Good to see. Let’s just get these “minor” injuries cleaned up and ready to go on opening day!

Bucs DBs could go from one of the Team’s weakest position to one of the strongest position. Strong DBs will help tremendously in the pass rush.

  4. LakelandBuc Says:

The Bucs are also high on JJ Roberts,

That’s why they gave him $300,000 in guaranteed money
Roberts, Morrison, Parrish are a good trio of rookies DBs

Did you see Jonathan Banks tweet last night? He totally roasted lovey Smith as being somebody that made him hate football!!

Wrestlers are special people. They truly understand leverage. Never want to get into a fight with one either.

wirfs was a wrestler, state champ one time iirc

Don’t leave out Roman Parodie R cb out of Ohio. He’s had a fairly good camp so far. I’m rooting for him to make the practice squad.

JJ Roberts is the man. He and OT Chewy were the best UDFA signing by Far.

According to Joe, Bryce Hall is balling too. He was on the right side subbing for Dean. He looked very good to me yesterday.

If Parrish can tackle at all, he will be very good in the run game. He shot some gaps yesterday and could have had tackles for loses.

The older DB’s with injury history should get some days off or some light days. I’m thinking Dean, Winfield, and Hall. These guys are vets and know the playbook, so give them light days, especially in the heat.

We whiffed on drafting the center from West Virginia who the Steelers drafted in the 2nd.

I wanted Barton as LG and the West Virginia center at center.

He was a 3 time state champion wrestler.

He was the only rookie lineman to outplay Barton last year.

Thank god we didn’t draft the center from Oregon. He sucks! (Powers-Johnson)

Not sure which show it was but they showed a rookie CB trying to make the Cowboys team and he really looked bad. He had the athleticism but wow he was lost.

Wondering if any of our guys struggle this way. Just a recurring thought I have had.

Seems to me that like many NFL positions it takes a season for DBs to get it down to the point that you even know what you have. Could be me not knowing much about DB though.

    Go Bucs!
