SirVocea Dennis On Calijah Kancey’s Quest For Double-Digit Sacks

August 3rd, 2025

Goal for 2025: double-digit sacks.

Not since the great Warren Sapp in 2000 have the Bucs had a defensive tackle record double-digit sacks.

A defender the Bucs are putting a ton of faith in thinks his former college teammate — also a Bucs teammate — can pull that off.

In 2000, Sapp racked up 16.5 sacks. For a defensive tackle, that’s just about insane. Gerald McCoy flirted with double-digits in 2013 with 9.5.

And inside linebacker SirVocea Dennis, who knows Bucs defensive tackle Calijah Kancey better than anyone dating back to their Pitt days, thinks Kancey is primed to pull off what hasn’t been done since Sapp .

“I think it is obtainable for him,” Dennis said. “That is a guy who I know has worked tremendously hard just to not only stay healthy, but on little things like the fundamentals, the techniques, and stuff like that.

“The double-digit [sacks] look [attainable] in his future and I hope he gets it because I think he is deserving.”

Kancey may have pulled this off last year if he stayed healthy. He blew out his calf in 2024 training camp (like he did as a rookie in 2023) and played in just 12 games, but he still had 7.5 sacks.

Kancey’s immediate goal is to finally make it through training camp healthy. Provided Kancey is able to start Week 1, Joe would put money down that Kancey has at least eight sacks this fall.

  1. Nillyboy133 Says:

The bucs should go all in on Micah Parsons this will get us to the superbowl

  2. LakelandBuc Says:

10 sacks in 17 games is not as difficult as it seems
He’s been compared to fellow Pitt alumni ( Aaron Donald)
And we know double digit sacks were common for him

The main thing for him is to stay healthy
And the rest will fall in place, l believe he can do it

  3. Kidfloflo Says:

They need to bubble wrap that kids calf until week one! We cannot have him and Wirfs out for a pivotal division game

  4. ModHairKen Says:

Dallas ain’t trading Parsons. Uh uh. No. No. No. Not gonna happen.

    Ditto Bengals.

    Thank the Franchise tag.

The Bucs got what they got. And it’s pretty good.

  5. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

I mean, shortest distance between the defense and the QB is right through the a-gap. Kancey & Vita combined for 14 sacks last season, and I wouldn’t be shocked to see that matched or bumped up to 18-20 combined this year.

More concerned with the volume of sacks as a team. We had 46 last year, got to get that over 60 this year. We’ve got the talent to make it happen in my opinion.

  6. geno711 Says:

Nillyboy — I am ok with us trying to obtain Micah Parsons.

The “all in” comment to me though is absurd.

All sorts of current NFL pass rushing specialists have failed when it comes to leading their team to win Super Bowls.

From Mack, to Watts, to Parsons, to Henderson, to Boses (plural of Bosa),
    etc. etc.

Lots of ways to winning the Super Bowl. Getting an absurdly talented pass rusher could be one way. But there are lots of other ways to get there and mortgaging too much (in way of salary and picks and players) might not be the best way to get there.

  7. LakelandBuc Says:

    Trey Hendrickson
    Joey Bosa
    Nick Bosa
    Myles Garrett
    Khalil Mack
    JJ Watt
    TJ Watt
    Bradley Chubb
    Brian Burns
    Will Anderson
    Hassan Reddick

    These are top pass rushers
Who never won a Super Bowl

You don’t mortgage the future for a pass rusher

  8. LakelandBuc Says:

“”” And Micah Parsons never sniff a Super Bowl””

  9. Tattoodonny Says:

There’s no way we should go for Parsons bc of the draft capital that Jason hates giving up. Then there’s the money. If we pay him the reported $200 mil guaranteed at $50mil a year say goodbye to two or more of these players Luke Goedeke, Mike Evens, Cade Otten or Zion McCollum. Plus Baker Mayfield will need a raise as will others. Besides Dallas won’t trade him. Just look at what da Bears gave up and paid for DE Khalil Mack, way too much. Jason Licht likes his homegrown talent not expensive add ons. Go Bucs

  10. Pickgrin Says:

Silly Nilly…. there is literally 0% chance that Micah Parsons plays for the Bucs this year….

Kancey is more likely than not IMO to have a true ‘break out’ year in 2025.
Double digit sacks… impact plays… taking over games…. Pro Bowl… All Pro…. The Works!

Turn those early Aaron Donald comparisons into reality!

  11. Aqualung Says:

Go to your Madden console, ninnyboy. I’m sure you can swing the trade for Micah Parsons.

    smh

  12. Hodad Says:

Nillyboy is just being a sillyboy.

  13. Defense Rules Says:

Can’t understand why anyone would even consider the Bucs trading for Micah Parsons. He plays in the 4-3 defense, which suits him well. Playing in Bowles’ hybrid 3-4 defense would probably cost him half his sacks (but since he only had 1 PD last season, he’d probably triple or quadruple that here no problem).

The bigger issue is obviously money. Micah wants $50 mil per season. That IMO is $20-$25 mil MORE than ANY LB should make on a season. Micah’s averaging right at 13 sacks, 28 QB Hits & 16 TFLs per year over his 4 years. Incredibly impressive IMO, BUT … the defense he’s featured in ranked #31 last season and gave up 468 points (27.5 PPG). Cowboys finished 7-10. MAYBE just MAYBE it’s better to have 1 less ‘featured’ superstar but a more talented rest of the team (the Bucs’ approach?).

  14. Joseph C Simmons Says:

Don’t waste time even thinking about Parsons. It’s not a fit. It’s not how Jason Licht and the Bucs do business.

The Bucs reward their own. It’s part of the culture. The players look around the locker room and see home grown players get fat contracts. This makes them play harder so they will be rewarded.

So imagine what it’ll feel like when a player who’s never played a down in pewter and red, never sacrificed blood and sweat for Tampa Bay, walks into the locker room with a “highest paid in the league” contract. It’s a slap in the face. It messes with the culture.

Too many of you think of NFL football like fantasy football. It’s not. They’re trying to build a “team”, not a “best 22”.

  15. JA Says:

Agree with D.R. Few teams, and especially the Bucs, would be willing to pony up the cash and picks it would take to get Parsons. Moreover, Parsons ain’t going anywhere according to Mr. Microphone, Jerry Jones.
Just heard (NFL Network) Jones quoted as saying Parsons trade demand was just part of his negotiation process. True or false, Jones also stated Parsons will not be traded.
So dream on, dreamers. Even if Jones had a change of heart, Licht won’t go chasing. It’s not his style.
As for Kancey, why not? Sapp got his 16.5 in 16 games. Kancey has 17 to strive for 10. Don’t think 10 is too big a stretch if Kancey manages to stay in one piece.

  16. JA Says:

    Parson’s trade demand …

  17. Obvious Says:

He will get there if he plays the entire season. The dude is explosive.

  18. Nillyboy133 Says:

Well its on nfl.com as one of his landing spots… and he’s elite and only 26..

  19. Bojim Says:

If he stays healthy he’ll get them. Dennis will be a good LB too.

  20. Aqualung Says:

It was on the World Wide Web so it must be true

  21. Larrd Says:

Dennis and Kancey played off one another very well rushing the passer, if I remember their highlight films correctly. If both are 100 percent all year the defense should be much improved.

  22. Tony Says:

I wanted Kancey when he was coming out, too! I wasn’t too sure on Dennis but I probably would’ve considered him, too! I liked both of them but I was a little higher on Kancey. Pitt is gonna have some pretty good LBs coming out now, too!

  23. Bucs4Ever Says:

no need to spend $40 mill on a DE

    baker will be getting paid

  24. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    Defense Rules,

We’re in a 4-2-5 most of the time. Bowles has coached both a 3-4 & 4-3 in his NFL career. We rarely line up 3-DL, instead we’ll put Vita on the field directly in the A-gap or over the guard as he’s our anchor. Then we’ll get a combo of Vita, another DT(Kancey/Gaines)or a guy who’d have the build of a 3-4/4-3 DE(Gholston/Gaines/Nelly/Yaya) with 2 OLBs whether they’re Shaq or JPPs sized lined up as “OLBs”.

Even our OLBs, function like hybrids as they’re asked to set the edge, “blitz” rush the passer, or cover the flat in some zone looks. Mix in a lot of other blitzes, a safety in the box on occasion, and the stunts. It’s more like a hybrid of a defense that can look one way, and function unconventionally. All that said, Michah Parson(in theory) would be able to put his strengths to use in our defense and I believe that’s the most underrated aspect of Bowles scheme. It’s player friendly, if you can play

  25. Aqualung Says:

Micah is a Buccaneer right after Alice Eve declares me to be her first and only love, at my doorstep, holding a case of beer and a rack (of ribs).
