Bucky Irving Says He’s A Top-5 Running Back

August 1st, 2025

Yeah, Bucky Irving went there and Joe loved it.

NFL Network was out at Bucs training camp again today and wide receiver great turned analyst Steve Smith asked Irving where he ranks himself among backs — and Smith was determined to not let Irving escape the question like he does linebackers.

“We got some good ones out there, man. I’d probably put myself … we got some dogs. … I’m going to put myself in the top-5, for sure,” Irving said.

Smith joked that Irving should prepare himself for some texts after that comment.

Joe wouldn’t rank Irving in the top-5, but there’s certainly no other living running back Joe would rather watch. He was that special in his rookie season.

Irving said he attributes his success to hard work and being doubted his whole life, primiarly for being small.

Irving said he loves giving fans what they want to see and he does it with a child-like spirit. “I still play the game like I’m playing in the backyard playing killer and having fun.”

Yes he is! I was pushing for him or Estime (who also did pretty good). But the Bucky name just fits better….it was in the cards 🙂

  2. BucEmUp Says:

If Irving got the volume other top 5 backs get, he is 100% top 5

  3. James west Says:

    Bucemup I agree brothers

  4. LakelandBuc Says:

    He’s not a Top-5 RB yet,

It takes a few years of consistency to be a top dawg
One year is not enough time to be considered

But l love the attitude and confidence

  5. Knothead71 Says:

Don’t talk about it. Don’t sing your own praise. BE a top 5 running back and put that on film.
Bucky did great last year and I”m certainly not trying to take that away from him. But do it again! FORCE the talking heads to notice you and don’t leave anything to chance.

  6. Leighroy Says:

Love the confidence. Go walk the walk young man, and you WILL be top-5!

  7. Billlbuc Says:

He was referring to top 5 from the Ducks . Did anyone watch the interview.

  8. Bucs 95 Says:

We should go after micha parsons then will be true super bowl contenders

  9. Aqualung Says:

    Just love this dude.

  10. Aaron Says:

Always give your Oline a hat tip

    Go Bucs!

  11. Darin Says:

C’mon Joe. Watch the Bucs and the other teams too. If you’re not ranking him in the top five then you’d rather watch someone else. Trust me. Repetition. Watch them.. don’t sit back and think you’re an expert because you became a bucs fan in the 90’s.

  12. Saskbucs Says:

Well if fantasy football rankings factor at all he would be considered close to top 5.

Barkley, Henry, CMC, Gibbs, Robinson, Taylor seem to be the defacto top 6.

Jeanty is going ahead but obviously hasn’t done anything yet. I would take Bucky over Josh Jacobs.

Maybe I am forgetting someone but Bucky is firmly in the top 10 already so having a confident top 5 attitude isn’t crazy.

  13. Jarrett Says:

Yo Joe I got some bad news for ya

Shedeur Sanders is balling out in brown’s training camp and the Bucs passed on him 4 times in the draft.

And the money they just gave to Baker could have been used to go grab Micah Parsons, to solve our pass rush issues.

Jason LIGHT will sit on his hands as usual, never trade a first to get a proven player like Parsons … smh!

This is our 50th season. Is he ever gonna get Lavonte David some help!!!??

  14. Jarrett Says:

Sometimes I wish we had a BIG MOVE GM not a slow builder GM

JASON LIGHT …. key word LIGHT

THE MOVES HE MAKES ARE LIGHT AND ARE NEVER BIG MOVES THIS TEAM NEEDS

Without Brady he would’ve been fired !!!!

Go get Parsons from the Cowboys … TODAY !!!!

  15. Eric Smith Says:

Joe must was. On that good drink he was talking about from the University of Oregon! Click Bait!

  16. Eric Smith Says:

    Must be on

Lotta day drinkin’ today, eh? 🙂

So let Joe get this straight: The Bucs, one of the better teams in the league, with real Super Bowl aspirations, should have dumped their Pro Bowl quarterback for a third-day draft pick?

Licht plays it safe? Did you just land on Earth within the past three or four years?

  18. Aqualung Says:

Wow. There are some serious maroons on deep hallucinatory benders. Micah Parsons? Shadeur Sanders? Dump Baker???

    🧐🤣

  19. PalmettoJoe Says:

BillBuc is right. Bucky was saying he was probably in the top-5 running backs out of Oregon…not in the NFL. That was the question he was asked by Steve Smith, which even then he was reluctant to say. Watch the interview.
Bucky’s catching flack for something he didn’t even say.

  20. HC Grover Says:

Great. Bucky and White a 1-2 punch. Gruden thinks the Bucs will run away with the division this year

  21. Jarrett Says:

    No Joe

That is not what I meant at all. You’ve been the one drinking clearly

Bucs should’ve taken Shedeur to give Baker competition at QB1 moving forward

And don’t start with Baker is all world this, he’s that, BS

WE ARE NOT ONE OF THE BETTER TEAMS IN THE LEAGUE !!! PLEASE STOP

We lost to a rookie QB at home last year in the wild card round !!!!

How you extend Baker after that is beyond me!!!

  22. Jarrett Says:

Baker mayfield only stat that matters to real Bucs fans

Back to Back SEASON ENDING TURNOVERS

What blockbuster trade has Jason LIGHT ever done ?

Lavonte and Mike Evans are damn near about to retire

Where is the sense of urgency for this team in its 50th season?

  23. Kenton Smith Says:

Jarrett, you are clearly a drunken fool. Go to bed and get a good nights sleep.

    ^^^^^^

Not sure how long you’ve been a Bucs fan, but here’s what you need to do:
Google how many NFCS Titles the Bucs have in total. Then, how many SB the Bucs have in total. Then, how many of those Licht produced. Then, Google what NFC team has the longest playoff streak. After that, comeback here and continue your enlightened wish list.

  25. MadMax Says:

Jarret needs to go back to subway and make sandwiches……what an idiot

  26. MadMax Says:

    Gj Sly, got him….

  27. heyjude Says:

Loving Bucky’s spirit! Just what we need.

    Baker isn’t going anywhere.

It would be great if we were to get QB Shedeur Sanders from the Browns. The Browns were not the fit for Sanders.

Remember, the Browns let Baker go for an overrated QB that burned them and got a lot of money. Shedeur would do well on the Bucs. Baker and other players would be perfect mentors for him. He would thrive on the field.

  28. Jeffs grandpa Says:

Drunk posting by a few living in fantasy land

  29. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

Maybe after we get Micah we can trade for Patrick Surtain, Justin Jefferson and Josh Allen.

But Josh would just be to give Baker qb1 competition

  30. Stpetematt Says:

Good God the people posting on here. No, Baker isn’t going anywhere and the Bucs don’t want to pay for a Micah Parsons contract which would just about erase all the cap money they have. We have lots of great players to re-sign.

  31. Mike C Says:

Evade stats are nuts, and yards per carry was top 3 among RBs, Receiving is elite….. How do you not have him Top 5 Joe?!?!

  32. ThatAintRight! Says:

Yeah he’s a scary dude if he get 300+ carries.
Probably looking at 1500 rush yards and 12 TDs give or take.

We don’t need him to be a goal line back or bruiser back especially with that many carries but I could see him still getting lot of TD opportunities if they’re willing to give it to him. Vita Vea as CC a blocking FB makes his job so easy.
Every defender should beware of Vita Vea. Dudes a force.

  33. ThatAintRight! Says:

Once all the CH clears out and contracts resolve themselves I am sure some deals could be made to receive Micha Parsons for real. I wouldn’t be shocked that he wants out of Dallas. TB really does make a ton of sense imo. Micah would be like a younger version of von miller. So him at OLB with YAYA and Reddick is very intriguing if you ask me. Doubt this really happens but maybe a deal gets struck.

  34. Buc91’ Says:

Jarret isn’t very bright and clearly doesn’t know ball. Pretty sure shader is qb4 right now on a dysfunctional browns team.
