“Attrition” Cutting Practice Time

August 2nd, 2025

Joe absolutely is not complaining, but it’s worth noting that Todd Bowles has been cutting Bucs practice time in training camp.

He acknolwedged today after practice that it’s partially a matter of bodies.

For Joe, Bowles ending the underwear football sesssion about 30 minutes early today stood out.

“Due to attrition at some of the positions, so we got some new bodies here running around,” Bowles said. “You know, there’s minor injuries, but at the same time we need to get practice in.”

The list of minor injuries is long. And that’s ok, as long as the Bucs aren’t covering anything up. Teams are not required to issue official injury reports until September.

Of course, being down to two quarterbacks is a strong consideration when it comes to on-field practice time.

Bowles praised his roster for being professional and working well through nine days.

The Bucs have a meetings and walk-through day tomorrow followed by Monday off before resuming practice on Tuesday.

I don’t k ow what’s up with this team, but unfortunate that Bowles runs a soft cupcake camp yet we still have this many injuries

    Hi Joes,

Looks like Trask solidified his position as backup QB today? Looked like he was way more efficient than usual.

  3. Aqualung Says:

    Camp Cupcake.

  4. Hodad Says:

Simple, move inside to save these guys bodies. First two games indoors, four of our home games are in the last half of the season when heat won’t be a factor, or an advantage anyway. Just so dumb. Cut bait with this Pratt guy, and bring in another arm! Training camp is almost over, and we have three preseason games to get through. Another QB should’ve been brought in the minute Pratt couldn’t suit up for camp. Just don’t get what they’re waiting for.

  5. Defense Rules Says:

Strange, haven’t heard any of the players call it ‘Camp Cupcake’ Aqualung.

Guess it’s just a matter of perspective: on-the-field in ‘feels like 100 degree heat’ or behind a keyboard in air conditioning. For my part, I’ll stick with the air conditioning.

  6. GoneGator Says:

So…. Players are getting banged up/injured because it’s a “cupcake” camp? Smh.

Would it be better if we went back to 2 a days and leather helmets?

It’s easy for us to critique how practice is ran at One Buc Place. None of us have to do it.
I can still remember the brutal heat and humidity, in full pads at football practice in high school. It was all we could do to get through practice back then and we were just kids!
These are grown men, some nearly twice my size and I have to believe they are putting out and working hard.
Let’s just keep the injuries to a minimum. Our Bucs will be ready for ATL.
    GO BUCS!

Hearty, how many days have you watched the Bucs practice? I like most rely on Joe to let us know what he is observing at camp. I don’t think Joe said Bowles is running a cupcake camp. I can’t speak for Joe but I think if he believed this was an easy camp I think he would convey that.

    This does not compute.

Just go run in that heat with NO PADS and then talk to me, been there, done that. It is a mental grind believe me, sucking it up when you are flat toasted, wondering in your mind as you’re grasping for breath and can feel your blood vessels pumping through your head in that helmet and pushing through it. Then add the pads and the real part, the actual locking horns with each other.

It’s good for the players to have some time off the field to heal and rejuvenate. Their wellness is very important too, work balance, and come back stronger.

  12. Kenton Smith Says:

All these guys stay in shape. They swig some water and they can take heat and humidity ( Tampa ain’t the only hot and humid city in the country) and practice but it’s getting in football shape. Go be a car wreck test dummy for a couple hours. Practice or games it’s something you can’t do year round or even near it. It’s different than all other sports that way. These longer seasons are crazy. Guys just rest and recover for the next six months and of course stay in shape. The Grind has started. Most will be ground up and spit out. Ain’t nothing worthwhile easy.

  13. So Tired Says:

All these weak keyboard warriors, how about you show up at camp for half a day. If you can literally survive, you can keep running your fingers on your keyboards.

No? Because you’re 300+ pounds with 60% body fat? Yeah, we already knew that. The only thing hearty about you all is your cholesterol levels.

  14. BigMacAttack Says:

The heat is brutal as it always has been. Some years it’s worse than others. We all know this and the owners know this. The mindset of players collectively today compared to that mindset 25,35, 45 years ago isn’t close to the same. The players are weak minded today. They enjoy luxuries that Soldiers and Marines don’t, because they can’t. Be it hot or cold, “when it’s raining we’re training” , life and death only affords you 2 options. I’d love to see when the Army creates a complete indoor jump school, 1000 yd range, or the CMC decides to put a dome over the Delta Corridor CAX facility at 29 stumps. The point is that you really need to cater to this new generation, indoor practice facility that watches the team in earnest. But the RJ stadium is outdoor so we have to be able to handle the heat. Well the truth is that they don’t have to do anything in the heat. The lethargic, we can spend a little but not a lot, powers that be “________” family, could cover, and enclose Raymond James Stadium. I’m a GC and I can build right around and over the top of it and AC that 30 year old dog. Do it for the fans that bake in the sun year after year. Waiting just pushes the price tag higher. Weak feeble players, bottom line only ownership and lord only knows from from millennials, gen z, to what next rainbow warriors and hot girls who really aren’t female at all, none of it really matters anymore. You can’t stop the inevitable. No manners, no humility, no religion and no treating every single man as your brother. I sure picked a bad day to quit drinking.

Bowles is probably doing other things and Bucs are not a priority. I mean face it he’s one of the lowest paid head coaches in the NFL
