Don’t Tell Cade Otton He Stepped Up

July 11th, 2025

Starting Bucs tight end Cade Otton is a laid back dude with a football-first, lunch-pail mentality.

Hype or praise rolls right off the guy; he’s not about to buy into it.

Otton appeared to change his game with highlight-quality catches when Mike Evans and Chris Godwin were out injured last season. Otton’s stats and profile rose, but he says it absolutely wasn’t about anything he did differently.

That was Otton’s message during his sitdown for the official Buccaneers production Slice.

“I don’t think the mentality changed at all,” Otton said. “You know, I happened to have some of the routes and concepts that were normally designed for Chris or Mike, but our mentality is, ‘Do the best we can in the role we’re given.’ It was cool to see that come to fruition and have some production, but the mentality was the same.”

Joe how Otton delivered his take at Buccaneers.com. The 2022 fourth-round pick sounded like an AI-generated tight end robot. All football. No hype.

Otton has been a hell of a draft pick, and Joe’s eager to see what he cooks up in his contract year. However, Joe doesn’t expect anything different.

That wouldn’t be Otton-like. But if the Bucs need him, there’s a great chance he’ll be ready.

This Offense is really something to be excited about. There are no weaknesses, and Baker is still ascending but to even replicate what he did last year is asking an awful lot. It’s that putrid Pass Defense that couldn’t get off the field on 3rd downs is what’s going to tell the story this year. No way but up in that regard. Go Bucs!!

  2. LakelandBuc Says:

I think we can use a upgrade at the TE position

Just my personal opinion, no disrespect

I think a single word describes Otton’s improved contribution. OPPORTUNITY.

It’s no coincidence that CG and ME missing so many games provided more targets for Otton.

One of the exciting things is that this team still appears hungry. And the young guys seem mature beyond their age and combine that with a savvy corp of season vets…LFG.

  4. BillyBucco Says:

IMO, we don’t use the TE enough.
    Maybe Grizzard finally will.

  5. BA’s Red Pen Says:

I wonder who’s hair would win in an Oklahoma Drill with Cade Otten v Mark Royals.

  6. Aqualung Says:

    I love this dude.

  7. heyjude Says:

All in on Cade too. Fun to watch.

He does remind me a lot of Cameron Brate.

  8. BatW Says:

Cade Otton is very under rated. He has always been there when we need him. Pay the man and in truth he wont be that expensive

  9. Kenton Smith Says:

Yep. Anyone who is not all in on Cade Otten needs to kick back and watch some game film. He fits our offensive line. He fits our receivers group. He fits our QB. Count me impressed. Highly impressed.

  10. Razorramone Says:

BA, hard to bet against Royals. The flow and that stashe? C,mon man!

  11. Stpetematt Says:

He’s had lots of great plays for this team. I’d like to see Culp in once in a while to stretch the field, but during drives Otton is a QB’s best friend.
