Josh Grizzard Is Not A Yes Man

June 19th, 2025

Todd Bowles did not hire a rookie offensive coordinator, a guy 25-plus years younger than the head coach, so he could manipulate the offense and tell the young buck what to do.

If Bowles did, well, then he’s going to hit a roadblock.

The offense is Josh Grizzard’s show and he’s not going to budge when his convictions are strong. That was the message Grizzard delivered clearly on Sports Day Tampa Bay last month.

“‘You have to stick to your guns’ is something I knew going into it, but you just never know when that’s going to show up with the communication with the players or the coaches,” Grizzard said. “And so, I have have stick to what I believe in. And some of that’s been making my new changes and things. There could be a disagreement on things and they could see it one way. At the end of the day it’s my unit, but my name’s on it — so sticking to what I beleive in. And if I have that much conviction in something, it’s just we’re rolling with that; it is what it is. You just never know how it’s going to pop up from day to day.”

Grizzard went on to say he’s open-minded and he knows if players or coaches come to him with an idea or concern, then it’s surely been well thought out and he will give it a thorough assessment.

Joe’s not suggesting Grizzard should be insubordinate, but to what degree might he stick to his guns? Does that mean Grizzard might dare to overrule Bowles on a playcall or a personnel decision?

Regardless, Joe’s glad to hear Grizzard enters the job supremely confident and clear-headed.

It’s been pretty frustrating the past two years watching our offence take their foot off the opponents necks and let the opposing team comeback which we all know was a direct decision by Bowles. Hopefully Grizzard is a man of his word and pushes back against Bowles if he tries to call that stuff again this year!

Let’s go Grizz! Top 3 offense in the league.

  3. 813bucboi Says:

i think bowles will only tell grizz, “dont get cute” when it comes to his playcalling…bowles has been pretty hands off with the offense in terms of playcalling…

grizz has to focus on baker and his TOs….baker cant lead the league in INTs(16) or Fumbles(13)

fix that, and we have 12 wins easy…

    GO BUCS!!!!

Farmer – Bowles has stated recently that our issue last year WAS taking our foot off the gas. I don’t believe that was his call or even on purpose. It’s simply getting over confident – which has been an ongoing issue.

  5. Henry Says:

What a word salad. And you are trying to say what?

  6. Pickgrin Says:

Glad to hear of Grizz taking charge in such commanding fashion and being so confident in his own instincts.

Todd has a track record of giving his OC complete offensive control for the most part – and I don’t see that changing this year.

Grizz knows its all on him and his offensive assistants to push this Ferrari of an offense to its limits and average 30+ ppg in 2025.

Sounds like he is relishing this opportunity – and rightfully so…… I’m not sure a first time NFL playcaller has EVER been handed the keys to such a potent offense….

  7. Boomer Says:

    Bowles plays not to lose.
Which in my mind has the exact opposite effect.
If we’re accepting 1 more win each year as successful – we’ll live in the land of mediocrity and we’ll never get to the mountaintop before I die.

  8. Farmer Says:

    @74 Bucs

For Bowles entire career as a HC his teams are famous for their conservative offence once the team gains a two score lead. If it’s not Bowles active decision then it’s a hell of a coincidence.

  9. JustVisiting Says:

Boomer, I hope you have a few more years left than that!

  10. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Damn Boomer..

We HAVE been to the mountaintop Twice, lest ye forget

  11. Aqualung Says:

It would be cool if Todd had a defensive coordinator he could banter with to grow new and better ideas, instead of talking to himself.

  12. Crickett Baker Says:

I understand Liam hired him and a year later tried to snatch him, so he must be decent. I like the sound of him.

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

It’s too soon to make any realistic predictions about Grizzard, but I really hope he ends up being one of the best and he sticks around. If he is good enough, he might even become the heir to Bowles.

But, as I mentioned…too soon to predict. Just hopes at this point.

So you are saying 11 wins are not good enough? Get real, dude. Improvement is improvement.

We’ve already got 2 rings…one of the few teams to do that in this century. Bowles was a big part of the second ring.

If we keep improving, we’ll get another. Just because you are impatient and want it now, that doesn’t mean Bowles is a bad coach.

I will take 5-6 years of winning football leading to a ring over 5-6 years of losing leading to a ring any time.

Other than LVD, I’m not sure which ILB will start. Walker and Voss need to compete to earn snaps. Just because SVD got snaps in coverage over the hopeless Britt, doesn’t mean much. Voss had one splash play in the Detroit game, but other than that, he wasn’t memorable. Considering injuries of Walker and Voss, we will need both guys to play this year.

  16. Buc1987 Says:

    Aqualung..lol that was funny!

  17. Aqualung Says:

Sorry – 11 wins with this roster is the absolute floor, and an indicator of the same flaws repeated every season without adjustment. Last year, Todd had to try to lose 8 – and succeeded.

    “Injuries.” “Depth.”

OK. A generationally explosive offense and a defensive guru should be able to win 12 at least. Let’s see what we have .

  18. Zoocomics Says:

Bowles haters blame him for EVERYTHING that goes wrong with this football team, i.e. when the offense’s stubborn play-calling can’t move the ball, or they look predictable, it’s all Bowles, often accused of micromanaging, which couldn’t be further from the truth. He’s said on multiple occasions that he coaches his defense, offensive coordinator calls their calls.

Bowles is a situational play-caller, going on 4th downs, punting, taking the field goal vs going for 6, calling timeouts, etc.

  19. RBUC Says:

Unlike years past, I’ve been visiting this site and just read the comments and I chuckle to myself!!! The ridiculous Bowles Haters are running out of steam!!!! They are running out of things to complain about as YES Todd Bowles makes the correct decisions from coaches to personnel to make this team better and better and the HATERS are losing a leg to stand on!!! YES Jason Licht is the GM but even he has admitted that he works closely with coach Bowles with EVERY move they make and I know Todd holds a lot of weight with every decision that is made and has his fingers on hand picking just about every player that is on this team and Todd Bowles THE MAN U LOVE TO HATE ON is doing a masterful job completing the rebuild of this Super Bowl contending team called the Tampa Bay Buccaneers! The resources have overwhelmingly been going to the offense NOW we have a juggernaut on our hands so in 2025 my Bucs have finally sprinkled some LOVE on this defense NOW the organization can get back to their true identity and that’s dictating to other teams how the game will go from a defensive prospective cause personnel wise THEY COULD NOT DO THAT LAST YEAR so U delusional Bowles Haters, sit back and enjoy the ride cause 2025 is gonna be EPIC🚩🏴‍☠️🚩🏆🏆🏆‼️

  20. GoneGator Says:

If only Todd had an assistant or assistants to help him on defense 😠.
Oh wait… He has 7-8 assistant (defensive) coaches?

But but…. They don’t count because Todd still has the “title” of DC.
    OK, that makes sense 🙄

@Zoocomics… You know the drill !

  21. Obvious Says:

4th and 2 from our opponents 46 yard line and we’re up or down by three. Let’s see how many times the punt unit comes on vs the offense stays on the field.
