Baker Mayfield Ring Of Honor Candidate… For The Browns!

June 17th, 2025

Browns’ trash; Bucs’ treasure.

This is too hilarious and too much of an uncontested layup for Joe to pass on.

Could Baker Mayfield be in the Bucs’ Ring of Honor someday? Perhaps, but he’s got to win a lot more games and maybe win a Super Bowl for the Bucs for that to happen.

Currently, Doug Williams is the lone quarterback in the Bucs’ Ring of Honor. Two guys who won Super Bowls for the Bucs, Brad Johnson and Tom Brady, are standing on the sidelines asking, “Where’s my flex?”

So Mayfield, in Joe’s eyes, will have to wait his turn.

However, another team that Mayfield played for apparently is getting some run about being inducted into a legendary team’s Ring of Honor, and that’s the Browns.

Someone by the name of Xavier Crockett, who has a Browns-centric podcast “Honor the Land,” and certainly has a popular Browns-themed TikTok with nearly a quarter-million followers, tried to make the case recently that Mayfield needs serious consideration for being knighted an all-time Browns great.

“I think there is a real conversation that Baker Mayfield should be in that Ring of Honor because Baker Mayfield played a huge, huge role in where we are today,” Crockett said.

Where the Browns are today? You’re wanting to honor a guy who helped make a once proud, historic and model NFL franchise into the laughing stock it is today?

If anything, Mayfield was a victim!

Does that mean that next year the Bucs ought to put lousy Lovie Smith and Mike Smith into the Bucs’ Ring of Honor because the Bucs wouldn’t be where they are today without the rank ineptitude of those two?

(Quick: What does Tyrod Taylor, Mitch Trubisky, Case Keenum and Paxton Lynch have in common? They all looked like Terry Bradshaw vs. Mike Smith’s Bucs defense.)

(Quick II: In what turned out to be a galling, historic defensive collapse forever known as the “Capitol Collapse,” Lovie Smith said he didn’t want to score more points.)

Joe thinks it is funny as hell that the Browns — run by an “I’m-smarter-than-you” stats guy, saw fit to run off Mayfield for serial scumbag Deshaun Watson, and Mayfield is now thriving with the Bucs as one of the better quarterbacks in the league.

Now, the Browns currently have four quarterbacks, led by long-ago washed-up journeyman Joe Flacco. If you have two quarterbacks, you have none and when you have four quarterbacks, you are tanking for the first pick in next year’s draft.

Thanks Brownies. The Bucs wouldn’t be where they are today without you.

“I didn’t want to score points” is the same as “I didn’t want us to turn the ball over” when it was Tom freaking Brady at qb.

What team was it that the Bucs lost to when Todd said that?

I can argue that Baker mayfield definitely sparked the upward trajectory and respect that the browns have seemed to garner these past few years. People forget that the two years prior to getting baker, they were something like 1-31, including an 0-16 season. He took them to the playoffs and gained them some long awaited traction. How long was their playoff drought before him. I know it sounds crazy. But I can see where they are coming from with their logic
