The defense was not addressed at ILB. Usually teams with good defenses have a stud ILB in the middle of the defense. We could at the very least infused the roster with younger talent at that position, instead of hoping that current players stay healthy. Could have done the same at Edge. Walker looks ok, but the Bucs had a chance to get Mike Green and the kid from Tennessee. Sounds like I’m complaining but I am just going by what I see on Sundays an unreliable pass defense no matter the QB they face.
Not sure until regular season starts. The comparison of Chris Godwin 84th 3rd round selection to Emeka Egbuka 19th overall is what throws me off a little. Nothing wrong with a CGv2 but the pick value is different. It’s hard to get a value like that, Chris is special. Last years draft spoiled me a little bit. And I wish all the new players the best. Welcome to Tampa!
I’m happy with the Bucs did. I think this was a weak draft – so not sure we will have as much success as last year.
If I am correct about the weak draft, we will have to grade this in comparison to the whole NFL this year and not by last years success.
Almost all the Edge guys had the same flaws. They were speed guys without any power profile. Fans seem to over rate speed and underrate power and mass in the NFL — IMO.
Overall, I’d give this draft a solid B. All the picks were good players, but it didn’t really feel like the team addressed its biggest needs. I get not wanting to reach, but in Round 1, a trade down seemed like the obvious move. You probably still get Egbuka — and if not, you settle for Jihaad, which is still a strong pick.
Round 2? I liked it. No issues there. But Round 3 had me shaking my head. Nohl Williams is just sitting there, and within a minute the Chiefs grab him. Unreal. How did we pass on that? And then Upton Stout goes to the 49ers — another one gone.
Round 4 was another solid pick. But Round 5 felt like a miss. I think the Bucs were targeting Bassa, and the Chiefs screwed us again. No 6th-round pick — which is exactly why I wanted to trade down earlier and add more draft capital. With an extra 3rd and a 6th, this whole thing could’ve played out differently.
Loved taking Tez in the 7th — he’s got a much higher grade than that; the only reason he slid was his size. But if we trade back in the first, we could’ve grabbed Bowman or Stutsman in the third. Honestly, just take a few of those guys one round earlier and you don’t miss out. With a 6th, we could’ve taken Fadil Diggs or Thor Griffith — maybe even JJ Pegues, depending on which 6th we acquired. Or just take Tez there to be safe, and get Diggs or Thor in the 7th.
That said, I do think everyone we took has a legit shot to make the roster and contribute. It’s a good group.
But seriously — how did the Bucs get better here? Unless the plan is to try and put up 50 points a game, I’m not really seeing it. Plan for the future while maintaining the present? 100%. But actually get better this year? Not unless the plan is POINTS, POINTS, POINTS!
I know some are disappointed, but I am VERY happy. We got our WR and a great talented kid (I was thinking hit it in the 2nd, but Higgins went quick, so Emeka worked out perfect)
2 CB’s which I was hoping for.
2 D line which I was hoping for (one in Elijah Roberts who I was pushing for)
Then we cap it off with a small shifty WR return guy…..NICE!!
And the UDFA’s look good so far. Def love the big tank Desmond. If he works out, what a load of fun that will be watching him and Big V in a 4th and short goal line situation, and I mean BOTH sides of the ball…just give V the ball, automatic TD. Then we get a true bu C added with Jake Majors. He’ll be great for working with the 2nd team during practices. I def wanted that going forward.
Yeah, this was another great draft….oh yeah, you’ll see
If these guys pan out quickly like last year then the team should be much improved with the pressure and coverage. We lost so many close games because we couldn’t cover or generate pressure. Then the added playmakers on offense should be a win now insurance policy. Both WRs seem like they could make a difference immediately.
Beeej, another Buc website reported that the Texans and Rams were both trying to trade up in the first round on Thursday night to select Egbuka so if that was true, no way the Bucs could have traded down and got their guy.
(D+) only because EE is a good solid player with a high-floor (watched well over 20+ of his college games at OSU). I like Morrison, BUT his injury history with his hip (TWO ‘hip labrum’ REPAIRS, one in HS and ANOTHER in college, also a ‘shoulder’ SURGERY, & etc.) is VERY concerning. So, he is a HUGE ‘IF.’ And, the rest all have about a 5-10% of EVER being a ‘good’ or ‘plus’ starter, at BEST. Maybe, one of them eventually becomes a ‘starter’ but an actual “GOOD” one, Idk about all that!? We got ZERO immediate ‘impact players’ for our Defense. A team I ‘thought’ had Super Bowl aspirations.
“Scott” – Do YOU really believe that “BOTH WR’s” will make an immediate DIFFERENCE!? Are you serious!? So, YOU THINK “TEZ” behind Mike, Chris, JMac, EE, Shepard, & even Palmer as far as that goes, WILL make an immediate impact… Wow. NO ONE is expecting that. Now, how much actual, ‘real thought’ did YOU put into THAT!? He will be extremely lucky to even make the TEAM. Unless, Palmer ends up in the doghouse, or due to injuries, or something else miraculous, HE is destined to be on the ‘practice squad’ at best.
I gave an A- just because of Morrison health issues if not for that I would have given an A+. Morrison is a good corner but Parrish could be even better. David Walker is a fireplug of an edge rusher and could slide inside if needed. Egbuka to start the draft and Tez Johnson at the was a pleasant surprise.
“Kidfloflo” – having an actual ‘real’ take and being honest, versus being a dishonest, kool-aide drinking, total HOMER, is being a REAL FAN. Flat-out LYING about EVERY single Pick as being a “great pick,” & etc. without EVER watching even a single play of player’s college career, is nothing but a FAKE so-called “Fan.” It’s empty.
“Allbuccedup” – Wow, you must’ve watched A LOT of Kansas State Football last season!!!! Thanks for the info/head up on that. I watch more college (and HS) football than ANYONE, but not a lot of K-State tho, I must admit. So, I will upgrade my (D+) to now a C-.
Melvin jr. you don’t think Tez could be our version of Tutu Atwell? Who comes through big time for the Rams when they have injuries. So far nobody behind Mike, Chris or Jalen has shown anything besides a splash play here or there! They are all on notice
Melvin… I’m glad you, one of the NFL scouts, is coming here too set us all straight. You know better than all of these NFL GMs and scouts for sure. We should get rid of Licht and replace him with you since you watch so much college football. Definitely qualified.
The arrogance is borderline comical.
Tez will probably end up being our punt returner primarily and work his way into the pass game on random plays. Down the line, maybe he gets more playing time as a receiver, we shall see. It’s the bottom three backups that need to worry.
I’m okay with the pics cause you never know how a guy will pan out.
Licht has proved better than every other GM over the last few years and I trust his big board. These self proclaimed fan-experts that are criticizing the Bucs draft for not grabbing certain players at certain positions, I’m sure there are reasons they weren’t higher up on our board. Some will be regrettable misses but most will probably vindicate our staff on those decisions. Licht has the track record, I’ll go with him over any of you negative Nancys just based on the past three drafts.
Mostly grade inflation. Unless 2 of these defensive guys can start immediately, it was not a productive draft. Bucs need to get to the NFC Championship this year and next–David, ME and CG are not kids.
very bad draft. this team needs PLENTY of defense. here’s how it should’ve gone
round 1 – DT harmon or williams – round 2 – EDGE green – round 3 – ok with parrish – round 4 – ok with walker – round 5 – LB chris paul – round 7 – cobe bryamt. receivers are a dime a dozen. if egbuka was 6-4 – 220 lb – with speed – maybe 1st rd . you need a rcvr to replace evans not godwin. have a nice day
MelvinJunior you may (or may not) watch more high school and college football games than ANYONE. But your pessimistic views on this draft are needed and many of us are perplexed about the middle of our defense not even being thrown a bone. Remember we don’t see everything the organization sees. But MelvinJunior, you are honest saying you didn’t watch much Kansas State football last year. Parrish is a great pick and you were right in raising your overall draft score on account of him. You probably could have kicked it up to a solid C.
Loved the draft overall. Concerned at ILB. Hopefully Voss can stay healthy at ILB. He was a force early in the season before his shoulder gave out. He probably should have had surgery on that shoulder before he did. LVD needs to play two more years now to train a 1st or 2nd round ILB pick next year.
We got to give Licht credit. Maybe he has a guy picked out already at ILB out of next years crop.

Great draft, love the picks. I just wish they had addressed linebacker.

I have to think the Bucs have a plan for linebacker. Jason knew the weaknesses going into the draft.

Voted A- but if we are all being honest the only real answer is Not Sure.
April 27th, 2025 at 9:00 am
pickings were slim, and they seem happy with surgically repaired Dennis and new guy

Forget where I read it, two teams were looking to trade up while we were on the clock with Egbuka. When we selected him, both teams quit
April 27th, 2025 at 9:36 am
There was a big run on LBs in a limited class. I love what Licht did reinforcing areas of immediate need in a way we wouldn’t have expected.

I gave us a B+
Simply because I would have liked to see us draft an ILB and/or DT/NT.
But overall, I think this was an excellent draft for us.
Like a lot of other folks, I was shocked at our first round pick.
That’s not a knock against Emeka. It’s obvious from his highlights and his interviews that he’ll be a difference maker for us.
The more I learn about all of our picks, the more I like them and think we seriously cleaned up in this draft.
Just wish we’d addressed ILB and DT/NT.

“receivers are a dime a dozen”
Umm have you seen what premium receivers go for in FA?
What a dumb take, likely driven because they passed on one or more of your mancrushes.
This draft was an A-. ILB is the only concern.
They addressed edge rush in FA. Everyone seems to forget they signed Reddick. And JTS moving on is addition by subtraction.
