Jason Licht: Draft Day Is Unhealthy

April 14th, 2025

“Look, Glazer, if I see anything green and leafy, you’re going to have to leave.”

Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht and Hall of Fame GM Bill Polian have something in common.

Polian said on SiriusXM NFL Radio recently that when he ran drafts for the Bills, Panthers and Colts, those days were ones when diet concerns intentionally were ignored. The draft is a time for GMs to indulge in junk food, he said.

Joe found that somewhat interesting because Polian, now 82, was always a fit dude.

Well, despite the well known and alleged Tom Brady Effect at One Buc Palace, Licht is in the Polian camp, per his comments to Up & Adams host Kay Adams.

Gotta have wings. We have a buffet,” Licht said. “And gotta have some pizza. Gotta have barbecue, all the bad food you can think of. I don’t want any healthy stuff on draft day.”

Joe feels for the janitorial staff at One Buc Palace. But whatever Licht’s eating has been working. At least half of the Bucs’ 22-man starting lineup is a member of the 2022, 2023 and 2024 draft classes.

So the key to drafting well apparently is eating like a stoned teenager at 3 am in the morning. Love it.

Draft-day gluttony is sacred. Jason to his son — “Some day you’ll be a general manager too… if you can multitask eating Cheetos and deciding whether someone with a grade 4 labrum tear is worth drafting in the 1st round” — “I’ve got the 1st part down, I am 0-2 on the Labrum tear thing with Noah Spence and Sirvocea Dennis”.

Wings? Pizza? BBQ? I dunno, this Licht feller just might be a keeper.

So fortunate to have JL. For Bucs fans it feels less like draft day and more like Christmas morning.

Lol I don’t think diet concerns are part of his daily ritual

Great post Geno, I will hope for the best no matter who we draft but I really hope we avoid guys with injuries.

Wings and pizza sound great! Go for it all on that day.

    Thanks for the laugh, geno711!

  9. PSL Bob Says:

    Geno, nicely done my man!

  10. Ron Mexico Says:

Why no Mexican food? I hope Licht’s draft picks are better than his food picks. smh

  11. Aqualung Says:

    Yes, Geno, that was stellar.

  12. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

That’s pretty funny. Sounds like a fraternity house without the beer.

  13. LawlessOne Says:

You mean to say: “Jason isn’t getting any Licht-er?”

  14. Aqualung Says:

Hey Jack – something tells me there might be a few beers around. Not kegs, they’re not getting hammered.

But what is a pizza barbecue and wings feedbag without a few cold ones?!

  15. Irishmist Says:

I’d prefer he try to eat the other GM’s lunch.

  16. BucDawg Says:

Licht’s beer gut shows up twenty minutes before he arrives.

Add the crap food on top of it.

    Dead man walking!!!

  17. An Erection for Sacks Says:

    Green Parrot Pub, anyone?

  18. Not Says:

Mexican food ? The dude has to be able to be on the phone when it’s his turn. No puede ir a cagar. Give him Mexican food the dude will need a case of Charmin and a phone in the stall !

  19. garro Says:

Would love to make a pass through that buffet line Mr Licht. My bet is there is a quality control/food and beverage director highly involved with a chef or two. I promise I will divulge no secrets…I promise! 🙂

    Go Bucs!

    @ Not:

I think you must be referring to Taco Bell. Authentic Mexican/Spanish food very rarely sends me scurrying to the stall. Taco Bell? Every time…haven’t eaten there in 20 years for just that reason.

    LOL!

    Go Draft – Go Bucs! ! !
