Shaq Barrett Won’t Play For Bucs This Season

November 29th, 2024

Bucs sacks king Shaq Barrett.

So the Miami Dolphins are playing hardball with Bucs sacks king Shaq Barrett, who won’t join Tampa Bay this season.

Shaq unretired this week and Miami holds his playing rights because Shaq was on their roster when he retired in July. But the Dolphins put the word out yesterday: Shaq won’t be activated and the team will not release him.

That means Shaq will get some easy cash and will be a free agent after the season.

The 32-year-old edge rusher wanted a Bucs reunion, but that’s highly unlikely now.

I’m sure we won’t part with a #7 for him, see no other way forward

  2. ModHairKen Says:

I guess they’re still mad about the Brady tampering thing

  3. dbbuc711 Says:

Hope he stays in shape. I think they will release him or trade him for a 6 or 7 shortly.

  4. Hawk Says:

It is very doubtful that he would be in shape to play this year anyway. This gives him 8-9 months to get in shape (if he’s serious) and then he won’t cost the Bucs anything to check him out.

  5. Mike Johnson Says:

Miami Slammed the door shut on my man Shaq. Thats how the bal bounces sometimes…

  6. A Bucs Fan Says:

Shaq not getting released is payback for not letting Brady play for the ‘Fins his last season.

  7. dbbcpa Says:

Guys I believe the trade deadline has passed. Do you all even pay attention to the NFL.

  8. John Sinclear Says:

dbbuc is right. It’s a $$$$ thing. He’ll be signed in about 2 weeks?

  9. A Bucs Fan Says:

The deadline to activate him was yesterday at 4pm. He’s not eligible to be traded or cut any longer. He remains on the reserved/retired list.

  10. Costa Rica John Says:

Glad to see Shaw is gonna make some money off this.
As fans we pay a lot to watch football. These teams can pony up some cash to the players even when it doesn’t work out.

  11. Bojim Says:

Hard to unretire in the middle of the season and be in some sort of game shape.

  12. 941bucsfan Says:

So you know Shaq does not get paid this year.. and his contract officially won’t start until next year with the dolphins.

  13. Peter Says:

Brady was not playing stop that lol

  14. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Tremendous human being, washed as a football player.

  15. crasey Says:

Ought to come in as a defensive assistant. Show the kids a move or two.

  16. Ninety9buc@gmail.com Says:

There’s something off about this article. I can’t believe that Shaq’s agent slimy Drew Rosenhaus would have Shaq jump through all the hoops involved in unretiring, without working out all the details, and putting him in a position to Simply resign with the buccaneers.

  17. Joe in Michigan Says:

What can Shaq do in pass coverage, anyway? Yes, this is a slam on Todd Bowles and how he uses the “pass rushers” in coverage.

  18. EEK Says:

    Never say never.
Win a few more games and when there’s a streak and possible playoff run, it may be worth the risk/investment.

  19. Waterboy Says:

Happy for him! Go ahead and sit back and collect that easy cash.

  20. Cobraboy Says:

    Hostage situation in Miami.

Where is Sonny Crockett when you need him?

  21. It's Corn Says:

I hope other Miami players see that… it shows how they treat their players.

  22. NJbucs23 Says:

    No no no. On him

  23. heyjude Says:

I am really disappointed with Miami. I have respected McDaniels for a long time, and am surprised he made this decision. They had until 4:00 yesterday and could have made the right decision for Shaq.

Shaq and his wife lost a child. And if anyone else has lost a child, you know that the holidays are especially hard. You never get over losing a child, but maybe Shaq being back with the Bucs would have been something he and his family needed now. Hopefully, he can come back next year in some capacity.

  24. Buc4evr Says:

    Miami sucks.

  25. GoneGator Says:

More concerned with how Mike Edwards pans out.

Like to see Watts get some snaps on the edge.

REALLY like to see Yaya turn the corner and Brassell show some growth.

  26. Crotchety McGee Says:

In reading the NFL.com article it looks like Miami missed the deadline to activate him to their roster but he could still be released and sign with another team. References that Miami doesn’t intend to release him… hmmmm

  27. garro Says:

Miami is their own worst enemy. Could have played nice but…Lets just do some legal tampering this time. Less and less respect for our fellow Floridians to the south.

Those folks are starting to remind me of NO.

    Go Bucs!

  28. Mark Alstott Says:

Does anyone pay attention to anything in the NFL? The trade deadline ended November 5 at 4pm.
