Curious Rachaad White Up The Middle Call

November 10th, 2024

Who’s responsible?

What a groin-kick loss today for the Bucs. Joe will have trouble getting over this one.

Especially troubling to Joe was the Bucs not going for the jugular late in the game. Sound familiar?

So a San Francisco penalty negated a Rachaad White run up the middle that lost four yards with 1:04 remaining — 1st-and-goal Tampa Bay at the 8 yard line with 59 second remaining! The Bucs got bailed out.

White then ran for three yards and San Francisco called timeout with the 49ers leading 20-17.

Next, at the 5 yard line and after a timeout to think about it, the Bucs came out and ran up the gut with White again, a three-yard loss.

Joe was flabbergasted.

Was that the best freakin’ call in the playbook or was that the head coach demanding a conservative approach?

San Francisco called another timeout and the Bucs came out throwing on 3rd-and-goal at the 8 yard line. The incomplete pass to backup receiver Rakim Jarrett kept the 49ers from calling another timeout, one they used to win the game after the Bucs’ field goal to tie at 20-20.

Man, Joe does not get putting Bucky Irving on bench late in the final drive. Put the damn ball in his hands. Hell, Tom Brady was calling for it all day on FOX. And a short throw to Irving on 3rd-and-goal would have made life a lot harder on the 49ers trying to score if they got the ball back,, and that could have helped put the Bucs in position for an all-in, fourth-down play to win.

Frustrating times.

    i’m pissed man !

  2. Pmike Says:

Thinking that was a Coen call more than a Bowles call.

Are we beginning to see the league picking up on his play calls?

  3. Austin Says:

Fire Todd, Upgrade Liam, hire Saleh as DC

  4. SBucs Says:

Obviously Todd was playing for the tie and to lose the game in overtime.

  5. Erik w/ UniqueModernArt.com Says:

No touches for Sean Tucker is criminal.

And probably why we lost tbh.

  6. Josh Says:

Even if the players haven’t quit on Bowles, the fanbase has clearly shown its frustration. Raymond James was ROCKING today, especially when the 49ers’ defense was on the field. That’s because it was FILLED with 49er fans. Even if the team was winning, it’s evident that the fans are unhappy with the product on the field. If they were satisfied, people would be willing to pay to attend the games. Something has got to change if you’re going to FIRE BOWLES!!! This is the week to do it. Has an interim coach ever won the Super Bowl? No, but maybe you can convince Belichick to step in during the bye week. That would be unprecedented as well.

Do I personally want Belichick? No, but do you see Liam Cohen, as a first-year interim head coach, taking on more responsibility being better at coaching the defense than what we currently see. The unfortunate answer is no from me…

  7. adam from ny Says:

bowles is sporting a ham & egger defense at best…

this mofo needs to throw some pepperjack cheese on that b!tch !

  8. Tampabay97 Says:

Its not curious its ridiculous. They ran Rachaad the play before that as well on the 13. It makes no sense to run the ball 3 teams in the last minute of the game with your 2nd or 3rd best back. Its infuriating.

  9. Will24 Says:

Don’t know if that was Coen or Bowles, but can imagine Bowles calling for a middle run there. He is an albatross

  10. bucs2020 Says:

Bowles has cost this team so much

  11. August 1976 Buc Says:

Why take out your best player in a game winning situation????

Whoever made the call, it just follows Bowles playing not to lose instead playing to win.

  12. Buddha Says:

Fought hard, especially Baker down the stretch. Look at the receivers in the game for Buccaneers. See any names you recognize. These were #5 6, 7 on the preseason depth chart. The schedule will get easier, but with no room for mistakes. Doubtful.

  13. adam from ny Says:

    no tuck is insane…!

duke was re-stashed in the equipment closet or placed back on laundry room duty…

staff should be ashamed of themselves…the dude can run

  14. TheScourge Says:

Six weeks until mathematical elimination. Bowles has already been fired, it’s just going to be 8 more weeks before they announce it.

  15. BakerFan Says:

Been about an hour since this debacle ended. Why has no announcement happen yet about a certain head coach being let go.

  16. Bucky Love Says:

    Coaching matters.

  17. Tbbucs3 Says:

Yet many still want to make Coen the head coach? Lmao

Hire Gruden. Belichick aint coming to Tampa.

  18. RuKa_44 Says:

@Joe, I agree with you, but actually would not matter. Do you really believe our D would stop SF from scoring a TD if they needed it?
    They can’t stop anyone!!
Remember that if not for the 49ers kicker, they should have scored 9 points more!! This game should have never been this close! Let’s not fool ourselves

  19. BCULAW Says:

The conservative approach is definitely “on brand” for Bowles when the game is in the balance. Remember Koetter’s response when anyone questioned whether Jameis was too aggressive or took to many risks? He’d say something to the effect that it’s easier to teach restraint to an aggressive player than to teach a timid player to be aggressive.

Bowles will never learn to be aggressive on offense or when the game is in crunch time.

  20. Ed Says:

Joe please let us know the last time the Bucs won a close game in Tampa when tied or down less than a touchdown.

Everything the Bucs do to stay close melts away in the final minutes as this team does everything wrong from play calling, time management and attacking defensively or offensively.

Ever since Bowles call the blitz and Cooper Kupp won the game 3 years ago the Bucs have choked on Primetime because of the lack of aggressive play at the end of the game.

These home games are winnable by most head coaches. What is going on at Dale Mabry at home?

The Den Of Depression has returned. Can someone at One Buc give the fans a HC that knows what calls to make to win back the fans. They’ve been mistreated having to watch winnable games lost due to insane patterns that other teams can anticipate.

  21. SeanBucsFan87 Says:

Just want to point out that Mike Williams had the game winning td catch for the steelers today. We could’ve major wr help for 5th round pick.

  22. QB6 Says:

    Bad coaching has consequences.

  23. ElioT Says:

Yep, Todd’s mindset was all over that late play calling.

  24. Kysbucs18 Says:

Bucky should’ve been in on that final drive …. Not sure what to think of the coaching staff on that … thought Coen called a great game with what he had to work with. Back up WRs were worthless today !!!

  25. Bartow Buc Says:

Joe, I agree dang it !! We had a chance to beat a good football team today and we did not capitalize on that chance !!

Where was Bucky ? Why wasn’t he out there with White ? Where was that hard to defend slant to Cade Otton ?

Why are we running up the gut instead of the flanks where we had success already!!

  26. Mike Johnson Says:

I could care less. The urgency of the moment is to FIRE TODD BOWLES. Nothing..and I do mean nothing else matters.

  27. Darin Says:

Bowles has a one game lead on canales at least! Daveys catching up! I knew it was coming!!

  28. Richard Dickson Says:

Absolutely sick at hearing that sound like a Niners home game at the end.

  29. Confido75 Says:

A lot of good talent being wasted on a mediocre HC. Can we pull the HC bandaid BA and JL put on this team and just accept Bowles is not the right guy for the job! If I was JL I would already be kicking the tires on a new HC.

  30. Buchen61 Says:

Listen up Glazers: if Todd stays maybe the fans won’t

  31. adam from ny Says:

we got bailed out over and over by the refs on the final drive…

the call plays were very suspect , as well as the personnel in the game at times…especially by the red zone…

shouldn’t the fresh legs of tucker been in late in the game for some of the handoffs ?

  32. Bartow Buc Says:

Still love my Bucs !! I’m just heart broken, sick of losing close games at home !!

I hope they get some rest and come back strong !!

    Go Bucs !!

  33. Bucnation Says:

Currently our best two players on offense Otten and Irvin weren’t involved in the 4th quarter with the game on the line. Obviously cost us.

  34. Pelsbuc61 Says:

I don’t watch Bucs games anymore. I just read the post Morten on JBF. Horrible HC with a horrible defense. Fans deserve better. Bowles shouldn’t even be allowed to finish the season.

  35. Dave Pear Says:

Another great loss for Lovie. Who thought the Bucs would stop the Niners from the winning FG? And even if, Lovie loses it in OT.

And even if Liam didn’t get stepped on by Lovie on the last drive and actually scored a TD, does anyone really believe Lovie could have kept the Niners out of the endzone at the end anyway?

Now we’re stuck with the Loser until the end of the season. But, Jason, let the confidential discussions with Bill B enter their next phase.

  36. Xristos Says:

Sorry but today was the last straw for me.
    Unbelievable. Indefensible.
Coach Bowles and the coaching staff time after time game after game are making the wrong decisions in the last minutes with the game on the line.
You go to the 8yd line with 1st and goal. You want a TD to win the game.
I understand that you will run the ball at least on 1st and 2nd down. I can accept that because the passing game was not there most of the game.
Put your best running back man. Put the running back that caused missed tackles all the game. Put Irving.
But nooooo lets give it to White.
Its beyond frustrating at this point.
We heard after the game at KC, Dont get used to losing.
But we see it time and time again in the last 2 minutes with the game on the line we make the wrong decisions, the wrong plays and we find a way to lose.
At ATL you have a chance to win the game…… You lose
Vs ATL you hae a chance to win the game……. You lose
At KC you have a chance to wint the game……. You lose
Vs SF you have a chance to win the game…… You lose
But hey we will listen again
    We didnt make enough plays
    We must be better
    We will learn from this
No you will not. We had a chance to win all these games and we lost them.
    MAKE BETTER DECISIONS.
I am more frustrated with myself honestly. Because in the final minutes of the game i always have the belief that we have a chance, we may win it. But i should know better. I should know we will find a way to lose.
I am not done with Coach Bowles. I am not the one who makes the decisions.
I am done however with the belief that when the time comes he will make the correct decision and find a way to win. I am done.
    Go Bucs

  37. Xristos Says:

Damn that was a long message. Sorry guys. It got out of hand lol

  38. Drunkinybor Says:

Todd needs to go. The defense has been horrendous. Period. Every time we need a stop you can count on it not happening. Todd did just enough to lose. He’s very good at it.

  39. Bnasty25 Says:

@joe bucs fans call for Todd and Coen. Honestly this went better than the Chiefs game IMO… All we needed was one stop. Two weeks in a row Baker did EVERYTHING TO GET THE WIN. I agree without Bucky being in the game but damn defense has to show up…. None of my friends in the Bay or Sacramento area like TB but they didn’t deny our four week schedule… Ravens, falcons, chiefs, 49ers…… That’s brutal and no one respects that… Bye week then win out. I see same thing as last year honestly. This team is tough as nails but so many injuries only go so far. We play better against Philly and Detroit than the 49ers … See Joe’s previous post. We still have a shot and I wish the best health for our team. ATL lost today too don’t count us out

  40. Bojim Says:

Depending on the defense to hold them out. Would been same crap as last OT anyway.

  41. Aceofaerospace Says:

Fire toilet bowls. I know, I’m wasting my time typing it, but he just sucks.

  42. ElioT Says:

    Todd’s message is;

    “Don’t get used to losing”

Same way he coaches, not to lose.

  43. AllmanbrosBucs Says:

How many games has our HC/DC cost this team over the last 3 years??? It’s time to move on…a lot of injuries this year but this team should at the very least be .500 and still in contention…good coaching matters

  44. Rod Munch Says:

Look, you have no NFL WR’s on the team, and the 49ers are focusing on Otton. I know what Coen was trying to do, just catch them off-guard. Plus the Bucs were trying to run the clock since you knew that sorry defense would not hold up.

All the people saying do this, or do that, watch the tape and tell me who was getting open, who was supposed to get the ball? The only play I had an issue with was the 2nd down run – that was getting too cute at that point, although the only real other option you might have had was a screen, and those weren’t really working at that point either.

You can’t just lose your 1st ballot HOF WR, an ALL PRO WR and the best LT in the game and just say, next man up. It doesn’t work that way.

  45. Diesel Says:

So everyone is just gonna ignore Barton getting beat on that run huh, cool. SMH. This site and commenters I tell you…

  46. gotbbucs Says:

Coaching malpractice, plain and simple. Playing not to lose two weeks in a row against good teams.
Glazers won’t fire him during the season, but they should this time. This team is in an obvious slump and he refuses to be the slump buster by letting the players win the game on the field. Not going for two against the back to back champs when you have them on the ropes and now settling for a field goal to tie the game, are you joking me? I can understand it if that field goal puts you in the lead, but not when all it does is tie the game.
The locker room won’t stand for that crap.

  47. FrontFour Says:

Inside the 10, less than a minute left. We get a TD and we win. What was Coen thinking.

  48. Ben Says:

Dont think Coen is this unimaginative to run the ball up the gut twice in a row. Im guessing Bowles told him to but we will never know. Yes White was playing great but gotta keep them off balanced with some different looks with different players. Just another week sitting here saying how this was a winnable game but handed another Loss.

  49. Cchead Says:

Tadds defense sucks. Game should not have even been close. They give up 414 yards today that should put them at 31st in the league in total defense. Guy has got to go.

  50. heyjude Says:

Bucky should have been there in the end. And Tucker was missing in the game too.

Our team played their heart and souls out. They had the win. Don’t know what the coaches were thinking with their decisions. I guess they will tell us soon.

Brady does a good job calling the games. He would probably make a good coach too.

  51. Ben Says:

Diesel….yes been saying this it was not White’s fault, Barton totally missed his assignment, but seeing it a second time in a row will do that. Toss would have been nice.

  52. Rick Says:

If we would have scored and taken the lead with 30 seconds left – SF would have driven downfield and found an open receiver with no time left for the win. The only shot would have been to win no time on the clock. Our defense is a joke. It’s time for Bowles to go –

  53. B Says:

It was Jon Gruden day and Jon always says you only have so many years in the league till other coaches just figure you out. A lot of people here have been premature and hyperbolic at times, but the writing is on the wall and that time unfortunately has come for Bowles. You are getting top 5 quarterback play and you are losing. You simply must change coaching.

  54. Rick Says:

Coen was trying to figure a way to win but still kill the clock! Baker throwing TD w a minute on the clock would have been meaningless. Deebo would have caught a slant down the middle and scored in that minute. Coen knows we can’t stop shxt!

  55. Bosch Says:

Another hamstring injury! Has a week gone by this season without a hamstring???? Don’t just fire Bowles. Fire the Trainer, too!

  56. Peter Says:

    Where was Bucky?
    Playing to lose

  57. Proudbucsfan Says:

Pffft so disappointed. This team has no discipline

  58. Gipper Says:

    It’s Mayfield’s fault.

  59. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

This team is in a free fall, and it’s primarily on the head ball coach, if we can call Toad that. He exhibits a complete play not to lose mentality, and always has the Cigar Store Indian look on the sideline. I’m sure the wheels are turning, but I’m not too sure the IQ busts 100.

  60. Dave Pear Says:

Jason – Glazer family – please shock the world and announce that The Loser has been relieved of his duties and that Bill Belichick has been hired as special coaching consultant reporting to the GM. It won’t happen until January but it sure would be great if it happened tonight.

  61. Jsmalls Says:

If you think Coen kicks it in KC and then runs it twice on 1st & 2nd goal today at the end, you’re and idiot and don’t know anything about football.

  62. Biggun Says:

Well the coach really baffled me calling for White two back-to-back carries out of the backfield I know and the rest of the world knows White is not good out of the backfield why was Bucky not in the game!?!?!?

  63. StickinUp4Centers Says:

Tucker looks like the back who can pound it the best. He was fresh at that point. It should have been him

  64. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Coen doing Blowle things. They refuse to make Irving and Tucker the 1s & 2s of this offense and coddle White who’s only good for here and there decent plays but those two took only one game to show what they can do together and these two guys refuse to use them enough so that this offense runs better

  65. Pryda30 Says:

They should’ve put a split back with Bucky and White in the backfield

  66. Saskbucs Says:

These coaches lose their composure at the end of games every week. Grab your balls and win a game. If the players don’t execute, time for a blow up. Bowles is embarrassingly soft.

  67. Sir Fresh Says:

The team is there, receivers, OL is selling, the running game is on drop bowles and get belichick. White has no vision make him 3rd rb , using buckey and tucker to keep the hammer down and watch your pass rushers emerg….. now is the time.

  68. ukester Says:

    WHERE WAS SEAN TUCKER!!!

  69. RichieRich2 Says:

CALLING CODE TURTLE!CALLING CODE TURTLE!. I was in shock. Huh. Time running out and we run it up the middkem it seemed like we were afraid to pass late in the game. We SHOULD have wine that game

  70. Kiki VanDeWeghe Says:

why not just trade sean tucker? it is criminal to make him ride the bench when he looks like a bigger faster version of thurman thomas.
