Creative Offense From Liam Coen

November 27th, 2024

Mad scientist.

Byron Leftwich could never!

Really creative, fun stuff here from Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen.

So let’s think about it: If it is smart to get the ball into the hands of your best players (it is), who are they on the Bucs offense?

Well, Mike Evans obviously. Bucky Irving, sure. Cade Otton? Don’t forget about him. And yeah, Rachaad White is a serious weapon in the passing game.

So why not get all four of them on the field at once? That’s what Coen is trying to do.

Evan Closky of WTSP-TV Channel 10 broke down tape of the Bucs’ win Sunday in the New Jersey Swamplands. He shows ways Coen uses those four weapons at the same time.

Coen likes to call Irving and White in the backfield at the same time “Pony.” Often, Coen had Irving line up at receiver, which should really throw off a defense.

Will Irving run a jet sweep? Will Irving go out on pass routes? Would the Bucs fake a run up the middle with White and pitch to Irving coming off the edge?

Lots of fun possibilities from these formations. And this is just one of a few reasons why “this Joe” is pretty confident Coen will be a head coach somewhere in the lower-48 next season.

Hopefully Coen will be ready to be the Head Coach of the Bucs next year.

  2. Buccaneric Says:

I don’t want this offense somewhere else next year….

  3. Hodad Says:

    Coen isn’t going anywhere.

  4. PSL Bob Says:

Very cool breakdown. Something most fans who don’t watch game film each week rarely see when watching the game. Too much going on to concentrate on only two players.

  5. Jay Buc Says:

My only complaint is that at the end of the games when they need a touchdown to win the game outright, or a first down to salt the game away, he has White running to nowhere multiple times. What a waste. Why not put the jumbo package in with Vea at fullback and Sean Tucker at tailback.

That’s awesome. All these guys are ballers in the pass game then you had Bucky and he well the Oline has bin now we have a run game we should have one of the best offenses in the league and that’s even with Godwin out. Defense it’s time to man up and step up and not waste this offense. JOE your absolutely right COEN will be a head coach next year he’s doing a better job then canales and he got one

  7. Outrigger Says:

The only way Coen stays next season is if he’s head coach and unfortunately I don’t think the Glazer’s and Jason have the stones to fire Bowles and promote Coen. I hope I’m wrong.

  8. JimBobBuc Says:

Throw the money to Coen to keep him. I’d prefer he stays at OC to focus on game planning and play calling.

  9. Oscar Says:

Bucky lined up as a receiver makes a lot of sense. I don’t think he would have any problem getting separation!

  10. GoneGator Says:

    But but but…..

RW isn’t a good running back. Just ask Joe

  11. Drunkinybor Says:

Cant let this guy go anywhere. We gotta ” pony : 🦄 up whatever it takes to keep him here in Tampa.

  12. unbelievable Says:

I’ve been saying this since week 2, and call for more of it.

The 2 RB sets are some of our most effective and unpredictable plays.

  13. Dave Pear Says:

Can’t wait for next year, when Todd assumes OC as well as DC duties after the Glazers and Jason rightfully let Liam walk to the Saints.

    Is gonna be awesome.
