Bryce Young No Longer A Stiff

November 29th, 2024

Cannot allow him to get hot.

Joe understands Stinking Panthers quarterback Bryce Young is not yet a legit NFL quarterback. As a rookie he stunk and he was so bad this year he was benched.

Maybe that was a good thing? In his last four starts, Young has thrown more touchdowns than picks and in those same four games, he’s thrown for over a 60 percent completion percentage.

Not great numbers, but certainly progress. Against the Chiefs (and a very solid defense) Young didn’t look lost at all.

Former Bucs offensive coordinator Dave Canales was hired by David Tepper to turn around Young, a former No. 1 overall pick. That seems to be happening. At least, Todd Bowles thinks so.

“He’s been playing good football of late that we’ve seen,” Bowles said. “He’s been playing very good football. Dave’s positivity and his coaching, period, is a good influence on him.

“It takes a while to learn offenses, no matter who you are. He’s got a good handle on it right now. I think they’ve figured each other out – they’re getting along, you can see it on the field.”

The last thing the Bucs need is for Young to get off to a good start on Sunday. A young quarterback just starting to feel comfortable, the Bucs can’t let him start the game with some completions or God forbid a touchdown, and start gaining confidence.

That is the key to Sunday’s game. If they can get after Young and force him into bad throws, the rest will take care of itself.

If Young starts lighting up the Bucs’ woeful pass defense and gets on a roll, Joe has a hunch the Bucs will have their hands full finding a road win.

Bucs D will make him look like a Hall of Famer…..

  2. PSL Bob Says:

I think he’s going to be pressured unlike his last few games. The Bucs’ interior with Vea and Kancey are starting to light things up and that gives our edge rushers an opportunity to get the QB on the ground. Even though Young is playing better now, I feel confident the Bucs will win this one. I know Canales is very familiar with the Bucs defense, but I think Bowles will install a lot of wrinkles to confuse Young. Let’s get this done!

  3. David Kilmer Says:

yes, this Bucs d can turn a poor qb into a good qb, and an avarage qb into an elite qb. Although it was the Giants the D played a good game. Let’s hope they don’t make Young look like he has now arrived and ready for the HOF. This is a div game and yes Car. has certainly gained confidence and is hungry to prove they belong. I need to see more from the Bucs D, but expect to see a tight game

  4. Ds Says:

The defemse has to show me again ijs

  5. Davenport Says:

Back in the day, this team feasted on young QBs. Now, it’s more likely that the same QB will look like a star.

Resting our hopes on this defense will lead to disappointment.

This has upset written all over it.

  6. bucnjim Says:

Unfortunately, I don’t think the Giants win really meant that much after seeing yesterdays effort. Their D is pretty good, but their offense is terrible. Looks like the Panthers will score some points Sunday. It will be up to Mayfield to outscore them and control the clock.

  7. Pmike Says:

Bucs D line will out Bryce back on the bench. Let’s go Bucs!

  8. Pewter Power Says:

Who’s defense is better Bucs or chiefs? I don’t know if they will be able to keep pace with Liam Coen’s offense since he has single handily saved Todd blows job and the season but I at least think Chiefs have a better pass rush. Let’s just hope Bucs don’t come out Denver broncos ready

  9. Mike Johnson Says:

I keep telling my buddies who think..this is an automatic win for the Bucs they are crazy. Canales has been working with Young and he has improved greatly. Not only is their Offense playing better, But their Defense as well. So Don’t be surprised Buc fans…We had better come with our A game or get embarrassed.

  10. Joshua Says:

First thing I need to see to believe Bowles gets it and anything changed during the bye is a complete curb stomping of the Panthers. He knows there head coach inside and out if he can’t stop them he really is done as a defensive mind….

  11. John Sinclear Says:

Bryce Young never was a stiff. He wasn’t sitting on stage at the Heisman because he got a good seat through Ticketmasters! And that national championship thing? Because he was sitting on the bench at Alabama? Another Ticketmasters purchase?

  12. Bojim Says:

Hope our defense doesn’t let him look too good.

  13. Bobby M. Says:

Bears showed yesterday, any given week a weak team can hang with a contender. Division rivalries are no gimmies. We better execute like we’re playing playoff caliber football because if not, the season will be practically over with a loss to the Panthers.

  14. BucsfaninOregon Says:

It better be show time for our worst high defensive failure of the modern era, JTS. And maybe Hall at the same time. Light can’t hide him on the roster another year. If he can’t show out against these supposed punk teams “He gone!”

  15. Jack Sparrow Says:

Canales will dismantle this Bucs D like a Swiss cheese ! Bucs O needs to score 30+ pts to beat these lowly Panthers.

  16. Bartow Buc Says:

Agree Joe, It’s not a matter of if, but when Bryce Young is going to break out and become another great NFL quarterback !! Let’s just hope that doesn’t happen this year against the Bucs !!

    Beat the Panthers !!

  17. Larrd Says:

Better to hang back and tackle in the open field once the receivers have caught the ball! Don’t be too aggressive!

  18. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

This Bryce Young story is a pure example of why the people who all have said Trask sucks and will never be a starting NFL QB are such flaming idiots. If he had been handed the reigns to the team as Mayfield was in Cleveland and then given a chance to be coached and learn there’s no way anyone can say either way how he would’ve ended up. Heisman runner ups are not scrubs, he’s never been given a real chance here stuck behind Brady then lied to by a coach who had to save his job. Now that Baker has finally turned it around and proven himself worthy of bribe the starter here, the young man will have to go somewhere else to earn that chance.

  19. View from TV Says:

I love comments that consider the Bucs a contender. 5 dash 6. Let’s pump the breaks on Super Bowl dreams until at least 9-6. That means they need to beat Bryce Young twice, plus Herbert. Long way to go.

My post above is a prime example of this here Joe’s fashist mentality and does not deserve to be a journalist.
First, have no idea to what you’re referring.
Second, this comments section is not the press. There’s no freedom here. Many hundreds of comments are moderated, deleted daily for many reasons.
Third, it sure seems to Joe that there are very diverse opinions in the comments here. –Joe

He deleted my post earlier because I said something derogatory about the people who came here when Mayfield did and have jumped on everybody who downed him for any reason. You sir better never complain about censorship of the press because you are a hypocrite because you actively commit that up here because of your feelings!

    Lol.
This is a blog, not a public forum or town hall. It is privately owned and operated. The Joe’s can/will/do edit or delete comments, and even though I’ve been edited or comments of mine not approved, I’m glad they do it….. Would be open warfare with political and religious posts not to mention even more (worse) name calling than exists here now.

lmao wow, you sure showed them! what are you, 12? if you’re so unhappy with the site, the “censorship,” and the quality of posters here, why not just go away? i promise, you will not be missed by anyone.

p.s. if the term “fanbois” was actually censored, you wouldn’t have been able to get it through just by changing upper and lower case like you did above. it’s not case sensitive.

  27. GoneGator Says:

Could be a tough game…. Young is gaining confidence, their team is playing hard. Hubbard is a handful.

Be good to jump on top early (always) and not look back.

Win 1st downs and make Bryce play drop back on 2nd and 3rd – and “release the hounds”.

I’d like to see the offense continue to evolve. We need to keep getting the newer receivers touches – chemistry between them and Baker is going to be very important later this year. I suspect Coen will get Tucker touches early…. to get his confidence back after last week. Be interesting to see what Liam cooks up with the “pony package” (interesting side note – Liam said when they’ve used pony package this year defenses have gone zone 100% of the time 🤔) .
Defensively I’d like to see us continue to improve our pass rush and shut down the run. Tighten up our coverage. Play with pride and effort. Like AW said = dominate 🤘🏼

Sunny delight you must have been born yesterday because you don’t know about this here Joe’s little hit list of words that offends his sensibilities. I reposted the remark from earlier by changing one word which is the one he replied to so don’t talk to me about things you know nothing about. The other Joe doesn’t have that hit list when it comes to Baker and his fans that this here Joe has. I was up here way before you ever heard of this site and being that I’m a true Bucs fan and this is the best site available for everything Buccaneers he’s gonna have to ban me but won’t stop from reading the stories thank you very much

Gone Gator you’re correct in what you’ve said but even so even then certain posters are allowed to post their racial and political leanings without repercussions. I have a problem with any kind of any kind of discrimination so a journalist who censors I’ve have a problem with

I could easily make the argument that those that post here ARE acting in the role of “press”. However, I could never make the argument that JBF is acting in the role as government. Hence it’s not censorship as JBF is not the goverenment.

Don’t know why JBF would choose to make the former argument.

Which makes me wonder, what happened to Dave. Pear? Has he been banned?
If so, that would be concerning.

You DO BUT but “they” are not obligated in any way to publish your opinion on a website that is privately owned and operated. If you want to exercise more free speech then create your own forum (blog, website etc) and YOU can be the one who decides what gets published.

It’s NOT censorship or violating your right to free speech. It’s having rules and “moderating” the conversation.

Please go ahead. I, for one, am listening.
Since when has a bunch of (mostly) old dudes with time on their hands, in a comment section of a sports blog, become an example of “press”? Or anybody’s opinion in any comments section anywhere for that matter? 🤔

And @Dave Pear is still here…. He’s trying low key sarcasm for attention now but I imagine he’ll be back to his name calling and put downs soon 😬

Just do the same thing you did against Devito. Bryce is better but not much. Drew Locke looked real good against the cow gurls. Play him the rest of the way to get a good look.
