“No One Is Satisfied”

May 30th, 2024

“The guy.”

UPDATED: If you think Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield is just satisfied with signing a fat check and finding a new home for at least the next two years, think again.

In a conversation Mayfield had with Sara Walsh of NFL Network, Mayfield said the goal for the team this year is no less than an NFC Championship appearance.

The way Walsh relayed Mayfield’s words, it seems Mayfield is a bit peeved that the team may have let a fish flop off the hook when the Bucs had the Lions tied in the fourth quarter back in January but lost.

“We are not satisfied with going to the divisional round a year ago,” Mayfield told Walsh. “No one is satisfied.”

So Walsh asked Mayfield what is one way to get past the divisional round. Mayfield said the Bucs need to start faster.

The Bucs were terrible at first-quarter scoring last year with only four touchdowns.

Walsh relayed that this has been a very big focus for the Tampa Bay this offseason. And not just with new offensive coordinator Liam Coen but also head coach Todd Bowles.

Bowles has been really focused in spring workouts on small, little details, Walsh said, thinking that may spark the offense early in games.

Joe thinks the Bucs were damn lucky they got as far as they did with such an impotent offense in the first quarter.

Now Joe doesn’t believe Coen will repeat former offensive coordinator Dave Canales’ constant running between the tackles to nowhere. When you constantly run the same thing with virtually zero success week after week for 17 weeks, no wonder the offense struggled in the opening quarter of games.

As far as Mayfield in his second Bucs season goes, Walsh said, “He’s established. He’s the starter. He’s the guy.”

Is that really true? No TDs in the first quarter all year? That was inaccurate and Joe has since corrected it. It was three first-quarter touchdowns in the regular season and one in the playoffs. –Joe Or is it just no TD on the opening drive all year? Both are egregious, but no TDs all year in Qtr 1 is hard to believe.

DOC: Why you gotta be a Baker hater. Did you not see what he did that one year in Cleaveland. He almost won two playoff games all by himself. IF not for the stacked team around him failing to create more turnovers, than he himself gave up. They could have made it all the way that year.

Besides that, just look at what he did to the Packers last year.

When the exception becomes the only thing, you believe. Well, never mind, you won’t believe me if I told you.

  3. heyjude Says:

Love that the NFL Network are talking to Baker. They know how well liked and respected he is and his words matter.

We do need to lead early on with touchdowns, and not just by field goals. It sounds like Coen and the rest are on the same page to win and are not satisfied with just being in the division lead, it’s time for another Super Bowl!

  4. Razor Ramone Says:

Think of all the wasted 1st and 2nd down snaps running White up the gut.

  5. WiseCrack Says:

Razor Ramone was one of my favorites back in the day even though I never was a big fan of WWF

As far as your comment. You will never find a stat that backs up that claim. The opposite may even be truer.

What was predictable and to your point, when they ran. It was up the gut.

“Joe thinks the Bucs were damn lucky they got as far as they did with such an impotent offense in the first quarter.”

At first blush I thought the Bucs were lucky as well. Then in retrospect I realized that the overall health of the team; especially the O line had a lot to do with their success. Weren’t the Bucs one of the least injured teams in the league last year? Maybe that was the lucky nexus.

  7. Ol' Boy Says:

“Bowles has been really focused in spring workouts on small, little details, Walsh said, thinking that may spark the offense early in games”

The same thing he was focusing on All last year, especially during the mid season suck. Let your assistants deal with the little things and you deal with the bigger picture. Time management would be a fine choice.
If you’re going to focus on the basic level of play, you can’t expect more than the basics from the team as a whole.

here’s a wisecrack for you let’s see wisecracker himself in a game & what he wudoroduce probably the water bottle what a big mouth loser

  10. Crickett Baker Says:

I think it was that they did not score one TD on an opening drive all year. Then as Joe said, few TDs in the first quarter. Our division seems to be much improved, so it won’t be easy this year if that stat continues.

  11. Bucfan Says:

Keep Bowels away from the game plan and play calling and Bucs will win at least 10 games

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

They were lucky in a lot of ways last year. Injuries. Schedule. Etc.

That schedule last year is one of the reasons they are getting no respect.

Baker was the other…but the online was part of his issues. That is now fixed, so we’ll get to see what he is truly capable of.

  13. Dude Says:

Good because our offense was Dr. Baker & Mr. Mayfield last season.

  14. Dave Pear Says:

    Me like Sara Walsh.

    Does she know Kay Adams?

    🙂

  15. SlyPirate Says:

What the Bucs need TO DO to improve to win games …

    1. PASS RUSH. Too many long drives. Too many late game winning drives.
    2. SITUATIONAL AWARENESS. Bowles needs a time out consultant.
    3. FASTER START. Make the opposition one-dimensional and then see #1.
    4. LESS PREDICTABLE OFFENSE. Canales sucked.

  16. Dave Pear Says:

Don’t forget, Jensen was annihilated in training camp by Logan The Oaf, Shaq was debilitated by the Achilles, and Chris was not 100% thanks to the dirty Aints (osqueel’s team) from previous. So I’d say injuries were a very big component of limiting Bowels’ Bucs in 2023.

  17. Booger Says:

I think it was no touchdowns on opening drives. Which is unbelievable given everything is scripted… And, that goes for the entire first half. That alone should tell you A LOT about Canales.

  18. Bobby M. Says:

Canales was in over his head…..the running up the middle with no success, not using Godwin in the slot where he was an absolute stud, slow starts, a complete dud of an effort against Carolina (the worst team in the league) late in the season….he didn’t know what he was doing.

  19. Booger Says:

Bowels should spend some time playing as many Maddon simulations as possible, in order to help his endgame timeout and time management situations… Especially, with the ever important “Middle-8” of ballgames.

  20. SlyPirate Says:

    Dave Pear Says:
Jensen (knee), Shaq (Achilles), Godwin (knee). Injuries were a very big component of limiting Bowels’ Bucs in 2023.

    ^^^^^

Atlanta starting QB has an Achillies. Bucs are healthy.

  21. Joe Says:

I think it was no touchdowns on opening drives.

    Yup.

  22. Marky Mark Says:

Canales was terrible and wont make it past this year. He held back baker who bailed Dave out with late game heroics. Liam will let it fly.

  23. realistic-optimistic Says:

I’d like to see a comparison of Mayfield’s stats in the first three quarters to his stats in the fourth quarter.

    In Qtrs 1-3:
Mayfield threw for 2769 yards with 19 TDs and 7 INTs

    In Qtr 4:
Mayfield threw for 1275 yards with 9 TDs and 3 INTs

So 32% of his yards, 32% of his TDs and 30% of his INTs came in the 4th qtr.

  24. JeffreyLane77 Says:

I’m betting Mayfield is excited for this season. He wants to show the people who doubt him how wrong they are.

  25. Dave Pear Says:

Roger that, Sly. I was talking about the impotent 2023 offense.

Jensens absence is still a long shadow but Barton, the Human Obelisk we drafted and the FAs we picked up point to an improvement over The Three Matadors of 2023.

    Hope but verify.

  26. Capt.Tim Says:

We only ran up the middle last year for a reason.
And wasnt canales fault, or Bowles, or White.
    You can blame
    Stennie, Feiler, and Mauch.

When your guards cant get free, and pull to the edge- you cant run around the edge. You’ll loose yardage every time.

You cant give up completely on the running game, so running up the middle is your only choice.
Mauch will be the “ New and Improved”model this year.
    Left guard?
Sua Opeta is strong as a Bear- but rigid. He cant reach the edge consistently.
Thats why he couldnt get off the Eagles bench

Might have another year of running up the middle, for no gain.
Hope not, but then, I hoped not last yer also.
We didnt fix the line last preseason. We ve made major strides this year.
But we arent done fixing it.

Unfortunately, looks like the Bucs plan to give up on it until next year

  27. Oneilbuc Says:

Dave Pear. Their you go with your excuses lol 🤣🤣 Baker Mayfield is who he is. If he plays like this again this year who’s fault it’s going to be this time? And all of those 4th quarter stats was when the game was out of reach and the defense was playing prevent. Why you just can’t call it you see it is Baker Mayfield your daddy little boy?

  28. Oneilbuc Says:

Capt. If they run the ball like that again this year that would mean they’re going to have Baker throwing the ball 40 times a game and that’s not a winning formula with Baker Mayfield. Let Baker be a game manger that’s how you win with a quarterback like Baker. That’s how the Lions done Golf??

  29. Dave Pear Says:

    O’saintsfan? What excuses?

You and your Trashk Conspiracy theory means one thing. If you believe it then you must condemn Todd Bowels for purposely not playing the best players. I mean it makes perfect sense. In the hyper competitive NFL, try to lose on purpose by playing substandard players. Riiiight. What the hell is wrong with you? Oh never mind. You love the Saints and are crippletarded. You gonna be a Browns fan now that your lover JaMiss is holding a clipboard for DuhShaun the Perv?

  30. Oneilbuc Says:

Dave Pear. Lol 🤣🤣 I can less about you calling me a saints fan because I’m not a blind bucs fan like you. It’s ok to be objective to the team sometimes they way you and some of the others talk you would think that the bucs had a 12-5 or 13 – 4 record and lost in by 3 in the NFC championship. This is not a superbowl roster at all especially with a inconsistent quarterback like Baker Mayfield. Baker is a good game manger quarterback I would give him that but he can’t elevate no one the offense. He’s a game manger he can’t carry a offense like Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow and Josh Allen like you think he can. Jerry Golf is better than Baker Mayfield by a little because he’s being used the right way and plus at least he actually got to a superbowl and a NFC championship game Baker hasn’t done neither of that. Again if the bucs put the game in Baker Mayfield hands to win we are going to lose more than we win. Now that’s all I have to say about that part because it’s been proven on 4 different teams. And to pretend that Trask wasn’t better than Baker in training camp last year with all the proof that was given last training camp means you just got your blinders on. And yes Bowles didn’t let the best players play according to the results from training camp. And don’t let these media people fool you HC has fully garuteen contracts that’s why I have never seen a coach worrying about money when they’re fired. They’re never even mad about it because of the garuteen contracts. The bucs paid Lovie Smith 29 million dollars to sit at home. Look at Jimbo Fisher when he got fired!! That’s why I love coaches like Pete Carol and Jimmy Johnson they let the best players play and they make their decisions base on what happens in training camp on the field. That’s why I say you guys would have chosen Matt Flyn over Russell Wilson back than because Flynn broke a Packers touchdown record and I think he won every game he started that year. But Pete Carol said no Russell Wilson out played him in training camp so he was the starter. The best player should play regardless of popularity.

  31. Oneilbuc Says:

And I know now Joe will never let us know that again if Trask is playing better than Baker Mayfield he will report it watch and see!! Lol 😂

  32. Dave Pear Says:

Hey O’saintsqueer – your posts are unreadable. Bunch of run-on gibberish.

    Lets boil it down.

In summary (means, like- your points)

You love JaMiss, have his poster on your ceiling and wish he could spoon with you.

You know more than Jason, Todd, other coaches, players, owners, basically everyone but the tard brooming out the cafeteria at the end of the day.

You hated Brady, hate Baker, and believe that the Trashk the better player is being suppressed for unspecified reasons that are only known to the celery seed in between your ears.

Your best option is to stand in a bucket and stick your finger into a light socket.

  33. Oneilbuc Says:

Dave Pear. I’m done responding to you talking to you is like talking to a child. And yes I don’t hate Jamies like a lot of bucs fans do because I don’t know the guy personal. He didn’t do anything to me for me to hate the guy . I wish him and his family the best. Tom Brady I don’t know him I’ve never met him in my life so I don’t hate Brady either. I wish him nothing but the best in his life as well as Baker Mayfield. You guys take this stuff way to serious it’s just a freaking game. And again you squares don’t know how to even use the word haten. The word haten means jealousy and envy and I don’t know either of these players feel that way . But to you Baker is elite and better than Mahomes and Lamar Jackson ok now you happy? Man grow up little boy!!

  34. Dave Pear Says:

Tards gonna tard. And then there’s that whole level below tard.

Osqueelsaints. No cognition, just overall disdain for winning and a special hatred for Tom Brady, who won us a Super Bowl, and Baker Mayfield because — apparently — he thinks Todd and Jason want to be fired by not putting the best players in starting positions.

Special kind of special . The Ron White kind of stoopiddd.

  35. Dave Pear Says:

One more thing – please honor your commitment to ignore me. Never respond to me again, as it’s obvious your cognitive abilities are slightly inferior to those of an amoeba.

  36. garro Says:

If I recall correctly we have not been very good starters since forever.

    Abysmal last year for sure.

    Go Bucs!

  37. garro Says:

BTW please do not feed the trolls.

    That is all…
