Falcons Draft Michael Penix At No. 8 Overall

April 25th, 2024

Washington QB Michael Penix.

The Bucs fans who wanted Tampa Bay to draft University of Washington beastly-armed quarterback Michael Penix got a consolation prize tonight.

They’ll get to watch him face the Bucs twice annually. Maybe.

Penix was gobbled up by the Falcons with the No. 8 overall pick. He’ll back up Kirk Cousins, who has a gargantuan two-year contract. But he’s also coming off an Achilles tear.

Regardless, the Falcons made a move for the future, rather than a win-now move. Interesting play.

Joe is very pleased. Atlanta passed on a beast that could have helped them a lot this season. Short-term, the Falcons drafting Penix is good for Tampa Bay.

And I thought I had issues.

  6. Jerseybuc Says:

It’s a total bust pick for them. Time he plays he’s going be like 27 already. 8 th overall? Totally blew it

  7. View from 132 Says:

I guess the Falcons are betting the vet tutoring of Kirk Cousins will act as a Penix enhancer. But as a Bucs fan, I don’t have Penix envy.

  8. Durango 95 Says:

Artie Blank just made the pick in Atlanta.

    Brilliant.

  9. HA-HA-HA Says:

If you’re going to sit a guy, I’d take JJ instead.

  10. Bucswin! Says:

I have never laughed so much in my life at the people on this board who wanted the Tampa Bay Bucs to draft a QB on the first round because I doubt more than 2 of the 6 QB drafted so far will be the starting QB of the team they were drafted by in 5 years. I also doubt any of them will take their team to the Super Bowl which some of you insisted Mayfield was incapsable of doing but these guys could.
In fact I’d say in 5 years time, Mayfield will have had a better carrer then at least 80% of them. Atlanta is the biggest joke I’ve ever seen paying$250 million or so for a decent not great QB 35 years old coming off an achilles injury and drafting a 2nd round QB at number 8. Beyond belief!

Guys gonna be 27 years old at the earliest before he even sees the field.

  13. B Says:

Unbelievable. Who has ever spent that kind of money in the offseason and then drafted a quarterback controversy?

  14. Dave Pear Says:

Hey GirlsHairKen – you must not watch football when it counts. Anyone that knows football might have watched how Michigan neutered the soft Penix. He showed his junk on national TV.

Look in the mirror to see a feminine moron.

  15. Jason Anthony Sturgess Says:

Has the Atlanta GM been drug tested?

  16. Booger Says:

    Thank-You ATL.

  17. Booger Says:

    And, Thank-You Too, Green Bay!

  18. Booger Says:

Also, to Dallas for trading their pick to Detroit… Even though that is a scary pick, it allowed the Lions to step up and take another slot of the board. The draft could not have fallen any better for us than how it did.

  19. Anon Says:

It’s pretty wild that Raheem has learned absolutely nothing in all these years. Made his 1st pick a bust QB because he liked hanging out with him.

  20. darengibo Says:

The Falcons QB room will have more conversation about ACLs than their playback. Bufoons!

  21. Oneilbuc Says:

Penix went to a team with 2 good runningbacks and a good receiver core and they are preparing for their future while we are settling for meadicorey. We have a fan base that thinks Baker Mayfield is a superbowl quarterback. If Penix don’t pand out at least they tried. We will be tanking either this year or next year watch and see!!

  22. Letsbucinggo Says:

Rah Rah does it again I believe he drafted Josh Freeman in the first round when he was here. Looks like he going to be gone after a couple of years. Which chaos in the NFL south is good for us. Looks like our Bucs are the only team with stability in the division.

  23. Oneilbuc Says:

Letsbucinggo. Where are we stable at I know it ain’t quarterback !! You guys kill me with celebrating meadicorey.

  24. Oneilbuc Says:

NFL teams today don’t care about these contracts anymore they will move on from a player regardless of the dead money just like Denver and us by paying Brady 30 million to sit at home.

  25. garro Says:

And… I should care about the Blank birds drafting a hype QB because?
