“That’s A Proud Unit Over There”

January 10th, 2024

Joe has trouble getting a read on the Bucs defense. The pass defense has been miserable too often and the edge rush isn’t what it used to be.

But the run defense has had many excellent games, turnovers have been forced at a good rate and the Bucs don’t allow a lot of points.

The Bucs allowed the seventh-fewest points in the league this season. New Orleans ranked eighth.

Tampa Bay only had one game in which it allowed 30 or more points. Good luck finding another team in that boat. Even stud defenses like those in San Francisco, Baltimore, Cleveland and Pittsburgh each had two or three game allowing 30 or more.

Head coach/defensive coordinator Todd Bowles reflected on his group yesterday on the Buccaneers Radio Network.

“Those guys play hard. They play fast. That’s a proud unit over there,” Bowles said.

Bowles said he thought his defense tried to do too much against the Saints two Sundays ago but was laser focused against the Panthers.

“Everybody talked. The communication was great,” Bowles said, noting players stuck to their roles and executed.

Bowles also praised himself for the Panthers going 0-for-6 on third down in the first half on Sunday in the Bucs’ first shutout in years.

“I had a few packages going that they weren’t used to seeing,” Bowles said, referring to three outside linebackers in the game along with two inside linebackers.

Joe believes the Bucs are good enough on defense to dominate a weak Eagles’ offense, as in the defense can win this coming playoff game for Tampa Bay — and they’ll probably have to.

That defense won us the division last week.

  2. DS Says:

    Offense please come out aggressive

If we win it will be because of our defenseā€¦.stopping the run and creating turnovers..

Iggles (and the Hurts donut) have been turning it over more than Josh Allen minus the splash plays

But let the fans tell it the Bucs defense has been horrible this season and Todd should be fired. Imagine firing a guy who is a defensive specialist and his unit is top 10. Maybe a 1 and done for Canales. I think he can be a pretty good OC but maybe he needs to hire an experience play caller to assist in the game planning.

As much as we complain, things are bright today and we had a better season than most expected. Keep building the trenches and get a good corner. We have the pieces in place to build upon. Exceeded my expectations for sure.

Jose, if the defense is as focused and intense as they were last Sunday then yes they can not only defeat the Eagles but dominate them.

If the Eagles return to their week 3 form, we won’t have a prayer. We just won’t. But, this is not week 3, and the Eagles are trending massively downward, so I say it’s a 50/50 game, as always, coming down to turnovers.

It’s not like the Bucs are a team trending upwards by any means, so who knows who will win?

Pure talent-wise, the Eagles should dominate the Bucs. Let’s hope the Bucs play and play-call above their weight class for this game. Hey, anything is possible but not everything is probable.

    Go Bucs ! ! !

Bowles better dial up some better packages than he did last time we played the Eagles.

Yeah I saw the 5-1 front Sunday too Todd!

Your boy Diva got thrown out of the club on a a huge gainer on that one Todd. Ummm What the heck was that package?

    Go Bucs!

The BUCS are in the playoffs despite salary cap issues, a brand spankn new OC and a just put together offensive line. SEVERAL rookies STARTING. And a seemingly underrated QB. I’ve read countless negative opinions about the coach. Players, OC., even the GM. IMPATIENT HATERS! Wether we win or lose Monday one thing is for sure: The Drafting has been on point. The coach knows defense, and the OC is gonna be good! So win or lose, the current coaching regime deserves another shot
