Rachaad White Falls 10 Yards Short

January 7th, 2024

Rachaad White made a comment on X last week that strongly implied he was miffed after not being named to the Pro Bowl.

Joe kind of laughed it off because the Buccaneers’ running game ranks last in the NFL in yards per carry and 31st in total yards. It’s hard to be a Pro Bowl running back when that’s your situation.

But White had been a productive receiver 531 yards and had racked up 915 yards on 253 carries entering today’s game, so Joe understood White’s angle through a lens of versatility and productivity.

It was a huge goal of White to hit 1,000 yards rushing for the season today against Carolina. He came up 10 yards short. If you were wondering why White was running with extra juice with the game out of reach, that was the reason. He finished with 19 carries for 75 yards — 10 yards short of 1,000.

The last Bucs running back to break 1,000 yards in a season was Doug Martin in 2015. Then Ronald Jones was dominant in 2020 with 978 yards on just 192 carries through 14 games played. White needed all 17 games this season to hit 990 yards on a whopping 272 carries.

RW is truly the unsung hero of this offense…….

  2. Rob Lewis Says:

RW is a decent back. Nothing more.

  3. Rod Munch Says:

Stop taking a knee when you got a wide open field in front of you – or if you do, wait until you’re down to the 1, at the very least inside the 5.

If he doesn’t give himself up on those two long TD runs at the end of games, then he easily clears 1000 yards, and has 2 more TDs.

  4. Paratrooper Buc Says:

Fix the Oline issues and White hits 1000 next season on less attempts.

  5. MadMax Says:

^^^Bingo, Center first in the draft….and the realize White is our slot/rb…then get a run up the gut RB….i got some names, aint dropping them yet

  6. rrsrq Says:

If he doesn’t slide down at the end of those couple of games he easily gets 1K, unselfish, he will get it next year with better line blocking

  7. Canabuc Says:

He had 75 yards rushing today and came 10 yards short…

  8. Rod Munch Says:

If Baker wasn’t so God awful today, the Panthers wouldn’t have been stacking the line all day, and White easily gets over 100 yards and 1000 on the season.

  9. Front Four Says:

Give the guy credit for playing all 17 games, carrying the load and taking the pounding. Let’s see how he does next week

  10. Not Says:

RW thinks he should be in the pro bowl, 😂 😂 😂
I think the dude is listening to Toilet Bowl too much.
Now we’re likely to have both of them next year , 😢 😢 😢

  11. Usedtocould Says:

    Baker, baker playoff maker

  12. Jerseybuc Says:

White is a nice player. Edmonds is the better running back though

  13. Hammerhead Says:

Kudos to White. Even more kudos to James Wilder.

    White is Wilder 3.0

  14. Esteban85 Says:

We need ourselves a legit NFL center and a good rookie running back and RW can even stay on the field in the slot or we can throw in some 2 back formations. Lots to work with for next year as long as Licht man does his JOB

  15. NutterBuccer Says:

@ Rod Munch did you see baker. Guy was hobbled with his ankle and in pain from the cheap shot delivered by Mathieu last week. He had a bad. Game bud damn he gutted it out and made the plays he needed to when he needed to. White is a good running back and even better weapon out of the backfield. He will only get better. Really thought he would get the 1k this year. He’s gonna be staring at that 990 app off season.

  16. QBKilla Says:

If we had a better O-line, White would have 1300+

  17. Jack Clark Says:

Rachaad White will become a complete running back next year after we fix our lousy run blocking

  18. Aaron Says:

    Hey Joe,

    Edit much? Jesus.

  19. Aaron Says:

How was White 25 and 10 yards shy at the same damn time??

  20. Conte Piscatelli Says:

Can we start by recognizing that for the first what 6-8 weeks this offense was historically bad running the football. The fact he finished anywhere near 1000yrds would have been laughable week 8. To me I will say the running game at least looks middling. Which is amazing considering how bad it was early in the season

  21. Weebs10 Says:

Eagles look terrible. We could upset them!!! Hard to beat a team twice in a season so I like our chances!

  22. unbelievable Says:

If he had an OC who didnt call 80% of his runs up the gut behind the weakest center and guards in the league… he’d be way over 1k

  23. orlbucfan Says:

So, White racked up around 1400 yards combined. He is hurt. So is Mayfield, like major. Joe, please let us know if Trask will practice with the 1st-team offense. Thanks!

  24. Adam’s Angry Says:

You’re lucky you’re still on the roster, RW. Only way you are going to the Pro Bowl is with a ticket.

  25. David Says:

    Pro bowl???

He’s a good blocker, and a good receiver, but he has a long way to go as a runner.
He needs to average 4.1 per carry or more

  26. Ed McSherry Says:

Note “Joe” didn’t write-out the quote. Wonder why?

Why “Joe” only has snarky things to say about a great RB on the final day of the winning season, division win, and playoffs to be in a better mood than to criticize the player who’s been half the offense by himself this season.

Remember the plays Rachaad had where he could have had a touchdown, but didn’t take the opportunity because it helped the team by letting himself be “downed” and not going for the touchdown?

“Joe” is obviously trying to characterize Rachaad as selfish but has no facts to prove it; just bogusly and deliberately interpreting harmless comments in an attempt to accuse otherwise.

Rachaad has 990 of well-earned rushing-yards with an O-line that has for the most part provided no support in run-blocking, and with horrible coaching and play-calling; receiving, with a catch percentage in the 90s% is unmatched.

To all the fans who intelligently appreciated the great draft-pick of Rachaad at the time, you were right, and he proved it; congratulations!

    Go! Playoff-Bucs!

    The truth off the matter

  27. Bucfan1988 Says:

White wound up with 990 yards rushing…10 yards shy of 1,000

I think of SOOOOOO many plays that affected that.
    – the couple of times that he gave up yards to slide and run out the clock
    – How about those long runs earlier in the year that Trey Palmer screwed Jim on with his stupid holding penalties that didn’t even impact the plays?? Trey did that THREE times….Each of those runs was 15 yards plus….

White had a great season in my eyes despite Joe calling him a “TERRIBLE” running back, haha!!

  28. Ed McSherry Says:

I just looked-up the final stats for 2023 RBs.

Rachaad came-in 3rd for combined rushing + receiving.
He would have been second only to McCaffrey with another 101 yards.

    Rachaad came-in 3rd in rushing.
He would have been second only to McCaffrey with another 5 (FIVE) yards. Second place of all RBs in the NFL had 994 yards, and Rachaad had 990 yards.

Anyone think that maybe McCaffrey had “extra help” in achieving his total yards by playing on the 49ers?

An advantage in the quality of the 49er O-line run-blocking, coaching, play calling anyone?

Oh, and those two third place finishes? The second place finishERS in the two categories, are two different players.

How can anyone say Rachaad is: “an okay RB,” etc.

Criticism is laughable: the only real question is who’s the best in all of football, McCaffrey or Rachaad.

He beats-out Henry, Taylor, almost all of them, and in the second year as a pro at that.

    He’s

  29. Bucfan1988 Says:

Ed McSherry, sorry man, not sure what you were looking at, but White came in 14 place in rushing….4 yards behind Breece Hall…

Had 1,539 total yards for the season…

  30. Lakeland Steve Says:

I noticed he seemed to be running harder too. Why can’t he run like that every game the whole game? Only when a personnel record is on the line does he run really tough? That tells you a lot right there. You can tell the team guys and the me guys.

  31. garro Says:

I was hoping that we could somehow get him 3 more caries there at the end.

Dang I hate it for the guy!

    Go Bucs!

  32. Beejezus-belt Says:

Well Rachaad that is the difference between 3.6 yards a carry and 4 yards per carry. Hopefully this will be the last year you will be on the field on 1st and second down. After all you may be the best third down back this league has seen since Dave Meggett.

  33. Pickgrin Says:

White DID have over 1500 total yards which I predicted before the season….

  34. First Name Greatest Says:

Guy is getting slammed by Clueless Joe for the poor interior line of the Bucs. Hopefully Licht drafts quality linemen instead of hoping to find some unsung gem out of a school no one has ever heard of.

  35. Hohohobucsgo Says:

1000 yards for rb or wr is squat these days in 17 games not 14vin ole days..how about 1500 ?
