Of All People, Joe Tryon-Shoyinka May Have Saved Bucs Season

January 7th, 2024

Season saver?

Joe is happy AF the Bucs won. That doesn’t mean Joe is going full-blown cheerleader.

Fact is, Carolina should have won 17-9. But the Bucs found a way to win. Thank you, Antoine Winfield and whoever the dumbass Carolina wide receiver was who lined up illegally that took away a Stinking Panthers touchdown.

The missed Panthers field goal sure helped, too.

On the play immediately after the botched touchdown by Carolina — which Raheem Blackshear ran in from 28 yards out and would have pulled Carolina within 9-7 with six minutes left — Joe Tryon-Shoyinka made the play of the season, maybe.

Yes, JTS. Of all people!

JTS raced in from the right side and swiped the ball out of Bryce Young’s hand as he was in the process of passing. Greg Gaines recovered and the fumble recovery sealed the win and a division title — and sealed a home playoff game.

Had the Bucs lost, Joe sensed a new coaching staff would be in place next month and possibly a new quarterback drafted in the first round.

That was the ultimate in finding a way to win. The offense stunk out loud. The defense manned up.

And the Bucs, partially thanks to JTS, are NFC South champs!

    that’s a headline I never thought I’d see

  4. Rod Munch Says:

    Happy for the kid.

The defense came up huge today, on a day when the Bucs QB did everything he could to lose the game.

  5. HC Grover Says:

Love it that is so funny. Plan 9 zoomed in from Outer Space and saved Bowles!!!

  6. Hammerhead Says:

The defense manned up except for Devin White. He loafed all over the field today.

  7. Jack Clark Says:

Hopefully that sorry, soft, weak, wimp JTS will stay on the bench

  8. nick houllis Says:

Panthers may suck on offense, but they are solid on D.

  9. Rusty Shackleford Says:

JTS isn’t a bad player. He isn’t dominant, but he does get you a good 4 or 5 sacks a year. A very DeWayne White type player. Now Logan Hall ? He has been a disappointment.

  10. bucsince79 aka bumanner Says:

Wat to go JTS!!! Didn’t have the best year…

  11. Rusty Shackleford Says:

    Shut up, Arthur Smith!

  12. Jmarkbuc Says:

He didn’t save anything. Just prolonged the inevitable.

  13. Buc4evr Says:

I apologize for all the bad things I said about JTS, until next week.

  14. CyberDilemma Says:

Lest we forget the Brady led Bucs scored a measly 3 points against this Carolina defense at Carolina last year.

  15. heyjude Says:

    JTS did good!

  16. Marine Buc Says:

    Nice work #9.

I don’t believe JTS should be an every down starter but he will certainly carve out a rotational role somewhere in the NFL if not Tampa.

  17. Oz Len Says:

Baker had a rough day, obviously, the ribs hurt him on the long balls. That said, he wasn’t going anywhere. I might be wrong, but didn’t Mayfield take every snap for the whole season? Sorry Joe, but when you put a new QB in a game, first time all season, you never know what’s going to happen, butterflies, slippery fingers, missed throws, he can’t be trusted for the first 10 or so plays. ANd one screwup could have lost this game. Like it or not, Baker is driving this ship into port. Bowles isn’t trusting anybody else. Next season, who knows? Bowles and Baker may both be gone, but this year? They are it.

  18. Oxycondomns Says:

Surprised at the defense did good comments. That run defense wont cut it in the playoffs

  19. Show Me the TDs Says:

Saved this season. Ruined next season. Yay…

  20. All_da_way Says:

JTS may be a late bloomer but he is a solid rotational player. But no way should he be a starter as he plays way too soft and poor leverage.

  21. mark2001 Says:

I’ll bet at pick at number 20, we can get another JTS. Then we will have two like him. Happy days.

  22. ModHairKen Says:

Great play. Hope there is more next week.

    Heavy sigh!!

  24. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Joe Strapon Shoyankle finally made a play on defense

  25. SB~LV Says:

    Sloppy sloppy ball security

  26. SufferingSince76 Says:

Amazing. JTS makes one decent play all year and now he’s an All-Pro with you guys. SMH. I’m surprised you don’t have whiplash with the way you reverse course each week.

  27. Mike Johnson Says:

I was just coming out of the bathroom and my wife yelled, Joe Tryon made a play..a big play. Wow, after 16 games he finally makes a play of consequence. Good job joe. But we still need you replaced next season.

  28. Hammerhead Says:

The previous comment on this particular thread at 4:01 by someone else calling themselves Hammerhead was not me.

    What up?

With that said did anyone else notice how the sun was shining in the eyes of receivers. Panthers were affected much more.

I sort of agree on JTS, I think he’s an OK player that should stick around the NFL for a while, but will never dominate. People who say he’s a trash player and shouldn’t be on the roster are morons that have no idea what they’re watching. Next year he’ll be back, and will probably get another 4 or 5 sacks, will have 16-20 on his career in his first 4 years, that’s not a bad player – but I’d be fine with an upgrade of course.

But very much disagree on Hall. He’s been a solid starter in the mold of Gholston. He’s not going to put up numbers, but will just do his job. In this defense, he’s primarily a run stopper and there to free up LBs.

  30. Bosch Says:

All we can do is hope the Glazers realize the Bucs should have lost and still flush the bowel movement. Which is worse? A well deserved loss or an embarrassing win?

  31. SlyPirate Says:

Canales had a HORRIBLE season. There was a brief 3-game hiatus (good games) but he’s not a good OC. I love that he’s “getting looks” for HC. Take him, please.

  32. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Winning the South is like a participation trophy. This team will face reality next week.

  33. CJBucsFan Says:

    No, he didn’t

  34. bucsfaninOregon Says:

So JTS made a key play. Great, he knocked the ball before forward motion. I have been waiting all year for JTS to show up, and he finally did. I didn’t see the Bear game so this was the “only” showcase display of a play I saw him turn in all year.
And, some “drunk with a win” fans want more draft picks like JTS (and Logan Hall). Just amazing!

  35. orlbucfan Says:

JTS has been a disrupter in the opposing teams’ backfield since he started. No, it doesn’t gets sacks but it draws the QB’s attention. I’m a radio nut, but I catch the video highlights. Good for him and he will be a major player next game. Problem is the Offense.

  36. Esteban85 Says:

Defense is solid and always has been under Bowles but for a few blackout calls over the years. Offense is absolutely confusing to me. The only way the offense excels is if the OLine plays out of their minds.

  37. Daddylonglegs Says:

Regardless….. still need a new head coach and starting qb!!

  38. Mark hardt Says:

There were wins where the defense stunk and the offense pulled a rabbit out of the hat.Than there was Atlanta 1 and Texans where Baker won the game and the defense figured out a way to lose. It all works out in the wash. The Bucs have one more win than last season and made he playoffs.

  39. unbelievable Says:

Props to the defense. They saves us from the Canales-Mayfield disaster that was the offense today.

But I agree, Bowles is still hot garbage.

  40. matthew veal Says:

This critic of jts is happi l y eating a little humble pie.

  41. PanhandleBuc Says:

Defense bailed us out BIG TIME today! Canales has been frustrating at best! We are grossly underperforming with this roster and experience! Not sure if it’s Bowles handcuffing him or what?!

  42. Brian Says:

I guess it’s tough to say you are backing into the playoffs when you win the game, but that game was as close to backing into the playoffs as you could get. A 2-14 team and we had zero clutch offensive plays. Baker was off and I know he’s hurt but the only reason any Bucs fan has any hope right now is that the eagles may be playing worse!

  43. Jeremy Goins Says:

Go BUCS!!!!!!! If you can’t support your team then STFU. We are playing a team that is not doing good. LFG!!!!!

  44. garro Says:

Did he make a tackle today?

I didn’t see it. He did swat a football though. Wow!

    Go Bucs!
