Lavonte David Delivers Hall Of Fame Showing

January 21st, 2024

Thirteen tackles (9 solo) 1 sack and 2 tackles for loss — that was Lavonte David’s playoff afternoon today with everything on the line and his 34th birthday two days away.

Joe is so impressed by David, who simply will not put his Hall of Fame career in second gear.

If Joe were general manager Jason Licht, Joe would re-sign David before any other Bucs free agent just on principle. Every one knows David wants to return, and he certainly isn’t going to squeeze the Bucs for a fortune. He didn’t last offseason.

Todd Bowles certainly wants his leading tackler and spiritual defensive leader back next season, as does every sane and sober Bucs fan.

David should be a Hall of Fame player one day. It might take a dozen years after he retires, but he’s earned it in so many ways. This was one of his best seasons, even battling through a couple of injuries.

Later this week, Joe will have a hell of a testimonial on David from Gerald McCoy.

Tonight, Joe is toasting David with an ice cold Big Storm beer. Twelve seasons of magic, decication and excellence. and still rolling strong to the finish.

Get it done, Jason.

    Sign him.

  2. David Says:

They need him back for two more years then retire. They also need to draft a replacement for White and let him walk. BRITT is not a full time player. He can’t cover.

  3. MadMax Says:

Def bring him back!!! I saw him ALL OVER that field today.

  4. firethecannons Says:

Hope LD54 makes it into HOF, meanwhile if Devin White is not going to start the game–he needs to be escorted out of 1buc place.

Bucs win a cookie. Participation trophy.

I think it’s safe to say Shaq Barrett is gone after this season. He was so good before the injury and maybe he gets back there with another season but Achilles are different and we need the money elsewhere. We need another edge rusher. I think Diaby will be a stud next year. Additionally I think we save a ton of money letting DW walk. There will be money to spend, just do it wisely

  8. Aaron Says:

    Agree

  9. SlyPirate Says:

Sign LVD for 2 seasons …

In two years LVD will be 3-4 in Solo Tackles Tackles for a Loss, and Combined Tackles. HOF material.

As frustrated as we all are—and we are b/c this was a very winnable game—the outcome doesn’t diminish 54 and all he has done for this team…not in the slightest. David’s name belongs right up there with Selmon, Brooks, Sapp, Barber and Lynch’s in the annals of generational defensive stalwarts, heroes. He was particularly outstanding this year and damn good today. Hat’s off!

Ps. 45, what an unceremonious way to go out. Pathetic. Sad. Selfish.

  11. Greg Says:

No way he makes the HOF. Has only one Pro Bowl appearance. To think he is a HOFer is insane. Ring of Honor…sure. Not Canton.

  12. Kevin Lee Says:

If Luke Keuchly gets into the Hall of Fame before Lavigne David, we riot.

Words fail me, and I have several degrees in American English. Some of them are in Linguistics. What can I say about Lavonte David? I have been a FAN ever since the Bucs drafted him all those years ago from Nebraska. He is a team player. He is easily as talented as Derrick Brooks (HOF). He never got in trouble nor embarrassed the Bucs. Brooks was a wild man with the ladies his first couple of years, but Dungy settled him down. Lavonte stuck it out here through a few of the usual double digit stinko seasons. He was offered plenty of coin by other teams to leave. Same with ME13, and I bet part of why Evans stayed was cos Evans knew about Lavonte. He deserves a BIG FAT bonus. He played very well today. I still recall his finest moment back when the Bucs were headed for their second SB, his first. He was coming off the field at night. He had his helmet off, and he was smiling, and his face was shining…with happy tears. I almost broke down myself cos I was so thrilled for him. A damned good guy who finished first!!! Keeps me from being a misanthrope. Licht will get it done.

Time to clean house from Todd Boles on down. We should’ve never lost this game. We only had one sack all game and never put pressure on Jared golf like we did Jalen hurts WTF change the game plan all of them need to go.

  18. Dan Johnston Says:

Easily the most underrated defensive player of his generation. I challenge anybody who disagrees to go onto pro-football-reference.com and compare Davids statistics with Bobby Wagners. There is absolutely no reason to believe that Wagner is a 1st ballot HOFer and Lavonte isn’t. And I like Wagner so I’m not saying he’s a bum for the record. I’m saying their both HOF LBs who’s #’s are eerily similar. With Wagner leading in ints by 1, as well as assisted tackles, QB hits, combined tackles and passes defended. While Lavonte leads him in solo tackles, TFLs, pick 6es, sacks, FFs, FRs and QB hurries. Their numbers in pass coverage are damn near identical also. David just unfortunately played in relative obscurity the majority of his career while Wagner played for 1 of the most popular franchises of the 2010s

Man plays his heart out !! Great player

  20. ElioT Says:

    Total boss man role model.

    Love you Lavonte!!!

  21. Lakeland Steve Says:

I think it’s pretty safe to say without Lavonte we don’t even make the playoffs. Several great plays during today’s game and was he ever clutch. Coming up with a big sack when the game was on the line. He was playing like a man possessed today. We need him back badly if we want to take the next step next season. Sign him Jason Licht.

  22. T. McGee Says:

Great player, but not an All-Time great. No one on this roster is a Hall of Famer. Just because you have guys that play well for a number of years, that’s not HoF worthy. Hall of Famers change the game. The Tampa 2, the Nickel DB as Ronde played it, etc. Ring of Honor, sure… LvD and Evans, but neither is best of a generation.

  23. Bigbucfan90 Says:

I remember when he shoved the qb out of bounds in New York his rookie year lol he’s a beast hope he stays for the rest of his playing days!

“I have several degrees in American English”

LOL – Yet somehow, not one of your dozens of teachers and professors – from 3rd grade to grad school – was able to impress upon you the importance of a little writing device known as a PARAGRAPH….

  25. Pickgrin Says:

LD54 has been a total stud from day 1.

    His #s are HOF worthy.

Licht will get 54 re-signed for at least 1 more year (he earned a raise Jason) and the Bucs will be fortunate to have him.

  26. unbelievable Says:

    ^ 10000%

His stats are equal to if not better than all his peers (Keuchly, Wagner, Warner, etc) even though he gets shafted every year in the all pro / pro bowl honors.

Him and Evans need to retire as Bucs. I’ve said this since day 1.

  27. PewterStiffArm Says:

We need a capable compliment in free agency that can take Devin Whites spot. Sirvocea Dennis should get a shot but we still need a veteran to keep Lavonte from second guessing.

  28. Pickgrin Says:

KJ Britt showed he is a capable defensive player. And Britt will count about 5% of what Diva White thinks he’s worth against the 2024 salary cap….

Kudos to coach Bowles for getting Britt all that playing time at the end of the year – letting KJ prove himself and confirming before it even happens that letting White go will not be a big problem to solve….

  32. Lamarcus Says:

Yes. Definitely. Probably one of the best linebackers to ever play

  33. Sacker58 Says:

Lavonte David plays on a whole other level He Flys around like a 25 year old .Bucs ring of honor for sure!!!
