Jason Licht Keeps Receipts

January 7th, 2024

Bucs GM Jason Licht.

Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht may not have jumped in his backyard pool after clinching his third conseuctive division title today, but he did engage in online trash talk.

Licht took to X and smacked around Cameron Jordan, the slimy Saints’ fat mouth edge rusher. You can see Licht’s commentary below alongside a Jordan video taking a swipe at the Bucs’ chances without Tom Brady.

For Joe, today was a Buccaneers Ring of Honor game for Licht, as in he now has earned immediate enshrinement courtesy of the Bucs’ NFC South crown.

To win a division with $70 million-plus unavailable to spend on players because of the excess of the Tom Brady years, after losing two big-money players this summer in Ryan Jensen and Russell Gage, and via a plan to play 13 rookies and start a low-budget quarterback other teams would kill to have, Joe thinks this season is a stunningly great Licht accomplishment.

And to keep it very real, Licht’s roster achieved a winning record while battling against some questionable in-house coaching.

In 10 Buccaneers years, Licht forged a team Tom Brady chose to join, delivered Bucco Bruce Arians and a Super Bowl, and retooled the roster while not making fans suffer a losing season after Brady quit/broke down.

That’s a Ring of Honor GM.

Joe hopes Team Glazer doesn’t make Licht wait years for his rightful honor.

    I agree Joe. šŸ’Æ

  2. Bubby Says:

Nobody cares about the ring of honor. People donā€™t even listen to the speech. It became a joke when the booted gruden for hurting feelings.

  3. Orlampa Turd Says:

    That’s awesome!

  4. Todd Rolls Says:

Awesome totally awesome!!! Yeah I gave you a spicoli

  5. Todd Rolls Says:

Gruden got booted for naughty language that democrats donā€™t like! Put gruden back in or Iā€™m never buying a ticket or merchandise again.

  6. Front Four Says:

And for all those Haters out there, Bowles took that roster, cap strapped and all, finished with a winning record and a division championship.

  7. Jack Clark Says:

Haha this is awesome Joe! Cameron Jordan has to choke on his words today šŸ˜†

  8. HC Grover Says:

    Those Stainks are just sick.

  9. HC Grover Says:

Pack and Hawks have to lose to keep the Stinks out of playoff

  10. Jeffs grandpa Says:

Itā€™s not every year Buc fans get to celebrate a division title let alone 3xs in a row

  11. Zzbucs Says:

Tampa bay has Two SBā€¦.. How many this old Guy has??

    Great post me Licht!!

  12. McBucky Says:

They would have been much better without Bowles.

  13. FortMyersDave Says:

Hey Grover, I am definitely pulling for the Pack and Hawks today just to keep the Aints out. And looks like Philly is getting boatraced by the Giants which bodes well for the Bucs next weekend as Philly would be on a 1 dash 5 freefall since starting out 10-1.

  14. Cobraboy Says:

I have to admit this season exceeded my expectations, and Licht did a masterful job in player personnel with the cap and injury issues.

  15. Bosch Says:

Agree with NcBuckie. Bowles is a liability. Bucs will be a better team without him.

  16. Trask Cult Leader Says:

You’d think that billionaires would have a thick skin and not be sensitive babies……

Maybe change “Ring of Honor” to “Ring of Rainbow Unicorns” ?

  17. MacNupe Says:

Agreed Joe. He has orchestrated a phenomenal turnaround of the team post Lovie, Koetter and Winston. Whatā€™s great is he took BIG swings, never blinked when he whiffed, gave people time to develop and owned any mistake and pivoted. A great leader. Would be great to get the inside scoop on his thought process, when and how he develops or pivots from players. This off-season and the Devin White/ Winfield/Evans situation will be an excellent case study.

  18. Zzbucs Says:

Devon White is gone Mac Nupeā€¦ā€¦
No way Winfiled and I have my serious doubts ME13 will go

  19. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Licht is a very good GM. Toad Bowels is a mediocre, at best, Head Coach. He has reached his ceiling. Eagles are truly sh*tting the bed. They are losing 24-0 to the Giants with everything to play for. If we can’t beat them next week, Bowels should be canned.

  20. D Cone Says:

So all the others teams killed each other fighting for Mayfield and he had to sign with Tampa at a discount? Gotcha.

  21. orlbucfan Says:

I hope Devon White is gone. Guess who played better than him? JTS.

  22. NE Fan Says:

    Joe claims Brady quit,
when BA was the one who split

He left behind his dog crap coaches,
spending Glaizers money like slimy cock roaches

They forced Tom to play, when he wanted out,
Bucs went 8 and 9 without Tom, Atlanta would rout

In the locker room Todd gave all a game ball,
It’s the DEI thing a trophy to all

So let’s look ahead at the next playoff game,
No matter the team like 2023, 2024 will be the same

Call him Blowzo, Bowels or toilet Bowls, it falls on deaf ears,

Thanks to the win today you have now him four years!!!

  23. Not Says:

Bubby nobody cares about ring of honor unless the player is beloved . Nobody cares about coaches that have been on the team a few years.
You should have ended your post while it made sense.

Booting Gruden never changed the status of our or any teams ring of honor.

  24. Joshua porter Says:

Ask cam Jordan at the pro bowl how the bucs were this year……..ohhh wait his sorry ass won’t be there .

  25. heyjude Says:

For some reason Fox NFL keeps having Cameron Jordan on their pregame show. I have no idea why?… I don’t get it.

  26. Rod Munch Says:

THE BUCS ARE TO WIN THE SUPER BOWL, BUT IT’S GOING TO TAKE ALL OF US GETTING ON BOARD THE POSITIVE BANDWAGON!

REJECT NEGATIVITY, AND JOIN THE TEAM!

    #TEAMPOSITIVE!

  27. m milligan Says:

Rod, WTF is that, being ironic
Mayfield enters the weekend ranked ninth among qualified signal-callers with a 95.9 passer rating, tied for fourth with 28 touchdown passes and eighth with 3,907 yards through the air on the season.

  28. Irishmist Says:

Anyone see what the slimy Saints did at the end of their game today? Up 41-17 with time almost out, they line up in the victory formation and then run it instead for another meaningless score. Atlanta’s coach was not happy. That’s a really good way to get your QB blown up the next time you line up in victory formation.

  29. m milligan Says:

You suck, Dr. Negitive, I think BM got u n the arse when u were indisoosed FO

  30. Not Says:

    @ hey Jude,
I sure hope that doesnā€™t mean heā€™s lining up to be a host on Fox.
Heā€™s near retirement, they are likely road testing him to be a host.
Could condemn us to having to see him weekly , hope not !

  31. BucsFanSince1996 Says:

Licht should be awarded “GM of the Year” for this roster he assembled with all the dead salary cap money.

The Bucs aren’t great but did succeed almost all expectations outside One Buc Place. And some of the rookies are promising. It looks like Ya Ya is going to be a terror in the league for many years to come.

  32. m milligan Says:

    And Dave GFY

  33. Usedtocould Says:

    Talk that smack BOSS!

  34. heyjude Says:

    @NotSays,
You are probably right. I hadn’t thought of that. Makes sense and thankfully there are other choices to turn the channel to.

  35. Fansince76 Says:

Licht should get GM of the year!

  36. Adamā€™s Angry Says:

Iā€™m sorry Jason didnā€™t jump in the pool.

  38. Leopold Stotch Says:

While I’m not happy with the play the past two weeks. It is awesome and historic what our beloved Bucs have accomplished. Also Aints elimination day, as well as Dirty Birds day is always wonderful

  39. All_da_way Says:

Licht did a very good job this season with this roster.

  40. NaplesBucsFan Says:

    Saints eliminated

  41. Buc4evr Says:

I think the Saints are out. GB is going to win it.

  42. Jerry Says:

  45. Weebs10 Says:

  46. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Jordan Love is legit.

Maybe thereā€™s something to sitting for a couple years..

  47. Usfbuc Says:

This team made the playoffs in spite of our coaches. Anyone can watch the Bucs play, even people who know nothing about football and see that the coaches make questionable decisions.

  48. HC Grover Says:

I think this means we play the Eagles. The only team we have a chance to beat.

  49. WyomingJoe Says:

MUNCHER: Agree totally with M Milligan. FO!

  50. Buc4evr Says:

Last play of Saints game. TD on a kneel down. Arthur Smith goes crazy. Great day when both Saints and Falcons are mad.

  51. HC Grover Says:

    We got da eagles

  52. Rusty Shackleford Says:

This is a life lesson on why you shouldn’t arrogantly run your mouth all of the time.

  53. ElioT Says:

  61. BringBucsBack Says:

Great, Licht’s childish dig on X and euphoria for winning the Sun Belt Conference sounds like canning Bowles after next week’s loss is highly unlikely.

  62. unbelievable Says:

    This made me a smile.

Weā€™re a bad team right now, no doubt. But nothing makes me happier than the Saints losing / us winning more than them.

  63. infomeplease Says:

NE Fan, BA didn’t quit .. his health was so bad he couldn’t function as a HC!!! He was forced to move on because of his health!!! FACT!! Not fiction!!!!!!

  64. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘And to keep it very real, Lichtā€™s roster achieved a winning record while battling against some questionable in-house coaching decisions.’

Strikes me as somewhat of a cheap-shot Joe. Licht didn’t coach this defense to a #7 ranking in Points Allowed, Bowles did. We replaced the injured Gage with a 6th Rnd draft pick Palmer who was trained up by Canales, not Licht. Same thing with the other draft picks; they weren’t coached up by Licht. Give this coaching staff credit for doing a decent job of developing a bunch of high round picks and quite a few undrafted players (like Izien?).

Could Bowles & Canales have coached better this year? Of course. Could say that about literally any coach. But to say that LICHT achieved a winning record while BATTLING against questionable coaching decisions is demeaning to what this coaching staff did with the dime-store roster that Licht provided them to work with.

  65. David Says:

The GM hasn’t done crap wining post Tom Brady. There is no glory in wining this division on last game of the season. What has he done to keep the Bucs fans hopeful in wining super bowl in near future ?

  66. unbelievable Says:

DR – thatā€™s a good point about coaching people up, but there have DEFINITELY been more than a few questionable decisions from both Bowles and Canales. (Of course Canales is green as grass.) It seemed like Bowles was making some progress on that front, but then the last 2 weeks have been a complete question mark. At least the defense played well today, albeit against the worst team in the league, with 2 touchdowns narrowly escaped.

My issue with Bowles is stubbornness on scheme and personnel issues, and the fact that his teams come out flat way way way too often.

Why exactly do people have their panties in a bunch? Because they played all 60 minutes?

This sissy garbage where you stop playing with 12 minutes left in the game because you got a lead is some real loser mentality nonsense.

I had no issues when Schiano made his guys play 60 minutes (it was literally the only thing I liked about him), and I have no issues with anyone embarrassing the lazy Falcons when they quit before the game is over.

  69. MadMax Says:

    Licht’s a BEAST!!!

Now get us a Center and a true run up the gut RB

  70. David Says:

Licht has been awesome. Easily a top five GM the last several years. The problem is, for some reason, the Tampa Bay area has some extremely pessimistic fans who think every draft pick should be first team all pro and they love to live in hindsight when a draft is three years old and say what they should have doneā€¦ Theyā€™re idiots.
Jason Light hits on more picks than the vast majority of the GMā€™s, not to mention his free agent signings.

As for sticking it to cam Jordan on Xā€¦ Absolutely love it

  71. Truth Teller Says:

Joe what other team would want Baker Mayfield other than the Jets this year and that’s because their QB got hurt. Lol šŸ˜† Joe what team would take him who? Let’s not get crazy with us winning the division.

  72. Bucfan1988 Says:

    Licht is definitely a TOP 5 GMā€¦

Heā€™s learned over the years to not reach for a certain position of need and taking BPAā€¦Great researcher on small school O-line guysā€¦.

Found some diamonds in the rough this past draftā€¦..

May have been his best draft ever when you think about it.
Add the free agent rookies he signed and did a fantastic job finding quality for the coachesā€¦

I just think they could have gotten coached up betterā€¦.

    Objectively, lets see…

    Falcons
    Redskins
    Patriots
    Steelers

If you’re not talking about injuries, and about performance, that’s the list.

Speaking of which, Baker was on the Panthers last year and was literally the worst QB in football on that team, and that was while they still had DJ Moore plus McCaffrey – Young had a lot less talent and also looked like the worst QB in football on that team. It tells you that Young might not be as bad as he looks. Maybe the Bucs can offer the Panthers a 7th rounder for him, throw in Trask. Don’t get your panties in a bunch Baker Bois, I’m talking about as a backup.

  80. BakerBucs Says:

Baker needs to play in the playoffs just like he did at green bay if that happens they can go all the way

  81. SteveK Says:

Good for Licht, nothing wrong with calling out Jordan.

I wish Licht was here instead of Rock Star, then Jordan would be a rightful Buc. But Dominik wanted Adrian Clayborn, with a known physical limitation, over the son of an all-pro and now the future hall of famer. Itā€™s shameful think that Dom was making picks based on ā€œdinner ordersā€.
