Eagles Are Beat Up

January 8th, 2024

Eagles QB Jalen Hurts messed up a finger on his throwing hand.

So now we know who and when the Bucs will play to open the playoffs.

Now, which players for the Eagles will show up?

* Star wide receiver A.J. Brown hurt his knee yesterday and was pulled from the Eagles’ loss to the Giants.

* Starting quarterback Jalen Hurts blew out a finger on his throwing hand and he too was pulled. After the game, he said he’s “day-by-day.”

* Rookie part-time starting safety Sydney Brown blew out the ACL in one of his knees. He’s done.

Simply put, the Eagles are beat to hell.

Joe doesn’t want to see anyone get hurt but if Hurts can’t throw and Brown’s knee limits him or keeps him on the sidelines, and rotten Marcus Mariota has to take over, the Bucs couldn’t have much better fortune than that.

The Eagles are the first NFL team this century to lose five of its last six games and still make the playoffs. The Bucs have won five of their last six games.

And the Bucs are poorly coached so it could go either way!

  2. Tbbucs3 Says:

Hopefully were not “Tennessee ready” if Mariota starts

  3. McBucky Says:

Agreed the Bucs COULD win, but what they don’t display is a WILL to win. This week and last week’s performances should be considered unacceptable to upper management and a strong indication that the head coach is out of his league.

  4. unbelievable Says:

We’ve won 5 of our last 6 yet seem to be trending down.

Eagles have lost 5 of last 6 and are definitely trending down.

Which team will its balls? Anyone’s guess… but we really need Mayfield to be dramatically healthier than he was today.

  5. MadMax Says:

We’re also limping into the playoffs….should be fun. Im gonna have to miss work for this one next monday….

Cue my tip: dump offs all day at White….force them to stop it, then Evans and Godwin and Otten opens up! just saying….

  6. Paratrooper Buc Says:

Let’s up Bucs offense gets their crap straight and Bucs defense stays hot! Go Bucs!

Just read Falcons Fired Smith! Bloodbath Monday started early!

  7. Rod Munch Says:

The Baker Bois will not like what I’m hearing on the Eagles post-game podcasts.

They were literally laughing at the Bucs offense today, commenting how incredibly bad Baker looked. One then chimed in to say it wasn’t just today, that Baker was even worse last week. Another said between the Eagles offense (which is currently playing poorly) and the Bucs offense, they might set the NFL back 50-years when they play next week.

They did praise the Bucs defense however, calling it legit, and saying this isn’t the same defense they faced in week 3, pointing out that YaYa has come one strong, and the Bucs will have Kancey this time around.

They all agreed that even with the Eagles looking terrible and losing 5 of 6, they should take care of business and beat the Bucs.

So there’s an early Eagles take.

For what it’s worth, the Eagles podcast I listened to, which had a former NFL player on it and wasn’t just a bunch of yahoos, didn’t think Hurts was injury was that bad and he should be fine for next week.

Their top concern is the Eagles defense, which changed coordinator like 6-weeks ago, and since then the Eagles defense has been mostly awful.

They pointed out that other teams WRs are wide open all game when they run little 5 and 8 yard outs, if true, I hope the Bucs are seeing that on tape, since that’s one of the passes Baker throws well.

  9. I remember 21 Says:

Maybe if they have to start the water boy at QB we can win!!!

Boy that’s the attitude I love to hear. That’s much better than being confident that our best can beat their best. This hope & a prayer thinking is so embarrassing. The other team completely falls apart (3 turnovers in the red zone etc) and we barely win and then pat ourselves on the back about it. We have to get extremely lucky to beat mediocre teams. I’m not sure the Eagles and their water boy couldn’t beat us.

LOL only fools care about what the oppsing teams media is sayng. You’ve marked yourself againMush.

  11. RGA Says:

It’s the Bucs, struggled to win against the worst team in football the lowly Panthers. The team who does not win against teams with a winning record. If I’m betting guy I’d place my money on the reeling Eagles. Hope I’m wrong.

  12. RGA Says:

No team is scared to face Mayfield

  13. RGA Says:

Any team in the league salivates at facing Mayfield

  14. Ravishing Rick Crude Says:

The thing is – our D sucks and Philly could easily beat us w Mariotta (anyone that knows the Bucs understands their history facing backup QBs). I love our Bucs – but know what’s coming next week. Better season than expected though…

  15. Tbbucs3 Says:

I see no reason why the Bucs offense cant repeat a Packers like performance if Mayfields healthy.

  16. Tbbucs3 Says:

Devin White needs to show up big this week as hes had success with the QB spy in recent years.

  17. Tbbucs3 Says:

Canales picked a weird time today to force the pass game after not doing it all year…the main adjustments that need to be made is getting back to a more balanced attack, finding a replacement for Trey Palmer and getting Otten going which will help open opportunities for Godwin/Evans

  18. David Says:

It doesn’t matter who we play or how beat up of a team they are. You can’t defeat any team other than Panthers scoring 3 FG in a game. Or expect your defense to pitch a shutout again.

Toilet Bowl with his loved son, Baker have scored 2 TD and 4 turnovers mainly by Baker in the last two games.
Trash Baker played today and there was no indications of injury to his ribs. He just played so bad thanks to Antoine W. to save Baker’s ass from catching an early flight to his final XFL destination. I have no hopes in defeating Eagles.

    ___

    Thank you David.

You always have a knack for showig even new readers why we consider you Traskies are dumb as dirt.

Everyone coudl see today Baker was hurt and everyone in the media said exctly that even with no assoiciation with the Bucs.

The claim he played th same is equally indicative of dumbness. He had over 300 yeards last game.

However Kyle had exactly the same – good on him. He still holds at 30% compeltion rate. Lighting up the NFL up wih FIRE with 23 total yards and a grandiloquent 9 yards long play.

  20. dmatt Says:

Please take Trey Palmer outta there. He’s a dud. No way he’s a 3rd receiver. Why is he playing ahead of David Moore. I do not understand this coaching staff. JTS made a lucky swipe causing a fumble n now he’s being praised as the messiah. It appears that the OL assisted him in the fumble. JDean is garbage, he does not hustle n will give up on plays. He almost fumbled the Winfield forced fumble. We need a coach who’s going to come in and hold these high paid players accountable. Shaq, Neal. Dean, Davis, JTS,all need to be gone.

  21. Cesar Says:

Eagles look terrible rn lost to Cardinals and and giants back to back wr got a shot.and they are hurt right now!

    Tye is right.

  23. ModHairKen Says:

Williams. Dilfer. King. Johnson. Garcia. Simms. Brady.

Bucs QBs who led a playoff game in Bucs history.

How many had better stats than Mayfield?

    Be grateful.

  24. Bucs13 Says:

@Rod. I’m not a big Baker fan, but I have no doubt he can light up the Eagles, even with broken ribs. That Eagles D is awful! Evans and Godwin will feast. We should actually be favored in this game

  25. Bucs13 Says:

@Modhairken. No way you included Brady in those list of names. You could’ve easily ride for Baker without being disrespectful

  26. MadMax Says:

Thanks for the info Rod….Icurse you sometimes but you keep it real….all good

  27. Bucs since 76 Says:

With his sore ribs and ankle sprain Baker couldn’t avoid the rush and was missing his targets. With us playing on Monday night he has an extra day to heal. I just hope Bowles will not leave him in there if he is not playing up to par due to injuries. Trask has not played so using him will be a last resort. The Bucs have done a poor job of giving Trask the opportunity to play when the flow of the game would have allowed it. Wilford should be active for the game that way we have two QB available if Baker can’t finish due to injuries.

  28. Onetrickpony Says:

Every time I hear “we should”, they get overconfident, and we don’t

  29. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘Simply put, the Eagles are beat to hell’.

True, but so are we. Mayfield especially, but also several other guys are dinged up too. Nonetheless, our defense played strong yesterday & Philly’s defense is struggling. Hard for me to believe that they’re now 11-6 with a defense that’s ranked #29 (or worse now) and has given up over 100 more points than our defense did.

First game we met this season, the Eagles dominated us (25-11). We were behind 13-3 at the half and 25-3 with less than 10 minutes to go in the game. They whooped us on TOP 39-21 minutes and had 78 plays to our 44. Our defense held its own IMO, but our offense really stunk it up. We got dominated in the trenches from what I saw and their 472 total yards to our 174 yards pretty much reflects that.

Even though their defense seems to be reeling, I’m not sure that the Baker Mayfield we saw against the Saints & Panthers can achieve any better results this time around than he did back in September against the Eagles. Gut feel is that our defense will have to carry the load one more time if we expect to win.

  30. bob in valrico Says:

IMO, Bowles has failed to get Trask ready if Baker sustains any further injury.
Timid decision making by Bowles, Baker was clearly hurt and struggling to make
his throws and also sustained an ankle injury in the process.

  31. Hodad Says:

This will be Philly’s get right game. When a boxer needs a boost you pair him for a fight with a tomato can, that would be the Bucs. As bad as Carolina is, they had one TD called back for an illegal formation, and if not for Winny would’ve scored thru the air. We could’ve been beat 14-9. Next week the Eagles get right against the Bucs.

  32. NJbucs23 Says:

Wow. We got Comcast Philly on a Bucs website.

    I can’t ever escape the eagles !

  33. rickym Says:

This will be a very interesting game. The eagles defensive line is capable of dominating the Bucs offensive line and if Mayfield has no time, the weakness of the Eagles secondary becomes a non-factor. However, if the Bucs can give baker just a little bit of time and if the Bucs utilize screen passes to slow the rush, the Bucs have a good chance of moving the ball through the air.

The Bucs defense must be aggressive and stay in man to man for the bulk of the game to have a chance at stopping the Eagles passing game. However the Eagles also possess a strong running game that will be the Bucs biggest challenge all game.

Tough game to call and injuries for both teams will be a factor in the outcome. No predictions from me but hoping for an exciting playofff football game.

  34. Buc4evr Says:

Bucs coaching is the wildcard. Canales needs help with play calling. The Bucs are not adjusting to man coverages and plays take too long to develop against strong D lines. Overall the Bucs O line is just bad and struggles to pick up the blitz. Baker holds the ball too long and needs to roll out of the pocket more to pick up and throw to his check downs. Our WRs are not reliable, they drop too many passes. Our running game needs to be re thought. Think a lot of it is Canales trying to force up the middle running plays when the O line can’t open holes. Canales is making the RB continually bang their head against the wall. This isn’t pounding the rock, this is suicide on first and second downs. Canales wastes plays and downs. Has to stop against Philly.

  35. Mike C Says:

Wait, Rod, a bunch of eagles fans think the eagles will win ??? Great news flash bro…. ohhh this just in water is wet , sky is blue.

  36. Mike C Says:

Everyone saying “the Bucs struggled to beat the worst team” did you see the eagles losing to two of the next to last place teams???

@Modhairken. No way you included Brady in those list of names. You could’ve easily ride for Baker without being disrespectful

    —————-

As much as you guys hate Mayfield, he still blows away the 2022 version of Brady, who was the 17th rated QB (in rating and QBR) behind Justin Fields. Brady was far from perfect and would have been lucky to win 3 games this season.

  38. orlbucfan Says:

No one has mentioned that out Special Teams played well. Carmada had a 70+ yarder. McLaughlin scored the 9 points. Those 2 are weapons. Now, Mr. Licht, could you find us a kick returner?

  39. Whiners Aren't Winners Says:

Let’s be realistic people, it was clear Mayfield was injured/hurting during yesterday’s game, at least it was a better showing defensively than when they played in the rain in their first match-up. Secondly, Tampa has beaten two teams during their struggles this season against GB and Jax, which shows that they can dominate teams who are in the midst of a skid, if Baker is hopefully healthy. I would honestly like to see more creative play calling by Bowles, but it’s unlikely. While it’s understandable that all fans want their team to be undefeated, many if you have some unrealistic expectations, especially since the O-Line, Defense, and coaching/playcalling has cost Tampa a few games this season. In all honesty, if all of those aspects had been up to par, then y’all be sitting at 11-6 at the very least. We’ll see how they play, but I’m expecting a game similar to the one they played against GB and Jax.

  40. Angry Since Kickoff Says:

Last time Mariota was in Tampa he blew out the Bucs by 30, didn’t he?

  41. Pappabill Says:

I CANT BELIEVE WHAT IM READING IN THESE COMMENTS…..
Tampa Bay was slated to win 2 games this year…..2
We started strong , had a mid season collapse , and came on strong with a 6-3 record to end the season. During that run we saw that as bad as our run game got we still found ways to come up with a run game that ranked #4 during a 5 week stretch….we saw Baker Mayfield pitch a perfect 158.3 game against the playoff bound Packers and follow it up with a 116.7 performance against the then AFC south leading Jaguars……then came the Saints game which is always a tough match up for the Bucs and played poorly as Mayfield got hurt on a cheapshot by Tyrann Mathieu…. Now against Caroline who has the #3 ranked defense and Mayfield hobbled by rib injury and an ankle injury we came in on the road and shut out Carolina to win and secure our 3rd division title in a row and make the playoffs for the 4th time in a row…..
    AND YOU ….FANS…..ARE COMPLAINING!!!!????
HAHAHAHAHAHA 😆 I’m ecstatic and believing that we got a great shot at beating the Eagles…..they’ve been on a down turn for 6 weeks…

I’ll leave it at that ….And to these fans …..quit your complaining 😒

  42. kgh4life Says:

Eagles gonna lean on the run game. If the Bucs are smart they’ll throw the kitchen sink at Hurts and test that broken finger.

  43. Mike C Says:

Pappabill, Say it again! I will be at Rayjay next monday getting ready AKA hammered and be fired up to avenge a regular season loss vs the eagles! Am I in a time loop?

  44. SlyPirate Says:

    2023 Playoffs vs Cowboys 31-14

Predicting the same score vs Philly.

    Bowles/Canales can’t win meaningful games.

  45. Glass Half Full Guy Says:

If Mayfield is healthy enough to go I like our chances because we’re getting pretty healthy overall.

I saw the shot of Hurts’ finger and it looked pretty gnarly. Either dislocated or broken.

Getting an ugly win over a bad team like we did yesterday happens a lot in the NFL. Teams don’t try to play down to their opponent but it happens. The W is the main thing. Their pass coverage and scheme was very good yesterday and Canales needs to be better at making adjustments on the fly. We have very un-selfish receivers and no divas but sometimes you need them to speak up and say “that route isn’t working” or “I think I can beat my guy with a double move” etc.

The offense was very “flat” and without fire (except for the big guys in the trenches….they were ready to rumble but stopped short of dumb penalties)

Fingers crossed for a good offensive game plan Monday night. We need to disguise our plays better too. Whoever is upstairs in the booth with a bird’s eye view needs to relay some better info to Canales as well.

  46. SteveK Says:

I would love nothing more than to watch our trench players beat the sh!t out of the eagles. Pummel them with a mindset and let those clowns lose 6/7 to close their year. Screw them, hope we come out with dog masks just to mess with their psyche.

We may suck, but they are absolutely posers

  47. Bucs96NYC Says:

The issue that I see is the Bucs couldn’t really slow down the Panthers running, a team w/ absolutely no threat in the passing game.

Eagles strength is running the football & I feel they’re going to rely even more on this. Week 3 we couldn’t stop them running, so I hope Bowles has a better gameplan!
