Calijah Kancey: Bucs Already In The Playoffs

January 7th, 2024

Learns intensity of NFL.

What a season Bucs rookie defensive tackle Calijah Kancey has had.

Despite missing three games, Kancey ranks sixth among rookies in sacks with four. He’s also second to teammate YaYa Diaby in rookie tackles for loss with 10.

Joe joked with Diaby that when rookies enter December (or January), they are no longer rookies. Kancey told Joe he never heard that saying before but understood it. Still, he told Joe he is still learning — like how the NFL changes as the season grows older, especially the last couple of weeks.

“Yeah, I’m still learning,” Kancey said. “We win one more and clinch this, it’s a whole ‘nother season. The game gets faster. There is more to learn.”

Kancey told Joe he learned from how intense the past couple of weeks have been on the field that the Bucs already are in the playoffs, win-or-go-home mode.

“There is a lot more at stake,” Kancey said.

And he’s beginning to feel the pressure and intensity of the playoffs, despite the Bucs not being quite there.

One more win today, folks. One more win.

yeah guess the coaches and the punter and his team mates missed that memo. He showed he got it, he balled out

  2. Hammerhead Says:

Camarda needs to step up. Just in case.

  3. David Says:

That is great. We need young players to succeed. To move on from mediocrity of Toilet Bowl. Did you watch Texans game tonight ? They are in playoff at 10-7 including defeating Bucs with their first time young coach and young qb. It’s so depressing what we have in HC/QB two old losers.

  4. optimisticbucsfan Says:

where was this win or go home attitude last week?

uhhhhh…shut up and let your play do the talking

  5. Lombardi Lenny Says:

They obviously didn’t handle the pressure well last week against the Saints. The team better get their head if they’re a**.

I’ve never seen a team handle losing like the Bucs and Bucs media. We just got our teeth kicked in but everyone is totally confident we win today and get at least one win in the playoffs.

    Like wtf lol

Yes, and their coach is doing a great job with the entire team too. Stroud keeps astounding me. They also have a newer GM too, Nicholas Caserio. If the Bucs were to release our HC, it would also need to include the GM and others too. Here’s hoping we have a big win today and Evans remains with the Bucs.

  7. BUCS4LIFE Says:

    Go Bucs!

  8. heyjude Says:

We all sort of knew that this year may be a hard one with Brady retiring, and I am pleasantly surprised we did get this far. Many announcers and others had us as one of the lowest teams early on and barely talked about us. Now we are the comeback kids. Go Bucs 🏈

  9. Defense Rules Says:

My son & grandson, both huge Bucs’ fans, traveled down to Charlotte from Virginia to be at this ballgame. EVERYTHING’S at stake … a winning season, NFC South crown, playoff spot, and a LOT of jobs. Great way to end the regular season. We got this.

  10. NE Fan Says:

Today is the day, Bucs fans they can’t wait
For Baker and Canales, could determine their fate

Tom came to the Bucs, taught them how to win
Then BA passed the torch to Bowles, oh what a sin

Top three offense the D was top ten
Oh how things change, this is now that was then

BA screwed Bucs good, got up and he quit
Only to secure a job for his friend and nit wit.

Today is the day, the Bucs should move on,
If they do not you’ll be singing the same old song

Come Blowzo, come Bowels, come toilet Bowls,
No matter what happens he won’t shed a tear,
His contracts set, he has four more years.

  11. Jvato24 Says:

I’m not sure how they are not in the playoffs when today’s game is a direct effect, when and go on or lose and go home, I’d call that a playoff all day regardless

    David is a “special” boy

Dont find out if they are flat of not. Start with the no huddle to inject energy.

  14. Leighroy Says:

I’ll be heading uptown in a couple hours, sat 10 rows right behind the Bucs bench. That orange 47 next to his wife and children in panthers gear will be me!

(side bar: theyre Charlotteans after all, and if the same logic had been applied to me as a youth growing up in the 727, I’d be a miserable Vikings fan. Besides, they’re just there for the cotton candy at their age).

  15. BucsBeBack (Artist formally known as: BringBucsBack) Says:

Leighroy, letting your kids “find themselves” is nice & all but, letting them grow up ‘Lina fans & feeding them cotton candy borders on child abuse;).

When our Bucs’ “O” slam their heads into the middle of their defense 28 times for 34 yards, be cool- the kids are watching.

Have fun with the fam’, bro!

  16. Jeffbuc Says:

Need help. I’m on vacation in Tennessee the local fox game is lions Vikings. Any one know how I can get to watch bucs game. Sunday ticket is $49 for today which I will gladly play unless someone knows of another free way. Thanks

  17. Capt.Tim Says:

    This kid has talent.
But hes too small for a 3-4 defensive iinemen.
Hopefully our new Coach runs a 4-3. Kancey would be great in that Defense.

If the Bucs do make the Playoffs today, It wil, be the biggest surprise in Buc history. No way this team should have a winning record.
So many holes and weak spots.

They are winning purely with force of will.
    Absolutely amazing

I hope your family has a great time today and the Bucs win! Sounds like we will have a lot of fans there.

  19. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

Being a Bucs fan all my life like so many others here, we have a certain mindset that comes with loving a team that has lost SO much during our Fandom.

A few days ago it hit me that the players on this team that have been drafted the last four years have never known what it’s like to miss the playoffs. It may seem odd to a lot of us, but could we actually have a team that is young (which leads to craptastic games like last week when least expected) but a winning mindset? I guess we will know in a few hours.

  20. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

So…will there be an Andy Dalton sighting today?

  21. Mike C Says:

I will say it again, last week was a blessing is disguise, playing for all the marbles today can’t do anything but help intensity level in the first round.

  22. Mike C Says:

At the beginning of the year if someone told you the Bucs would be playing for the Division title in the last game of the season I am willing to bet most Bucs “fans” would have taken that seneirio in a heart beat.

  23. Jack Clark Says:

Uppity NE Fan, the Bucs are in first place in their division and literally have twice as many wins than your sorry as patriots. Plus you said the NFC South division is weak and the Saints curb stomped Belichicks defense 34-0. Put that in your poetry next time.

  24. infomeplease Says:

Win and your in!!! Lose and you just suck!!!!! We’ll see how it goes!! Won’t be long now…

  25. m milligan Says:

Mayfield enters the weekend ranked ninth among qualified signal-callers with a 95.9 passer rating, tied for fourth with 28 touchdown passes and eighth with 3,907 yards through the air on the season.

  26. Watzz Says:

    Lets get it! GO BUCS!!

  27. David Says:

Cut out this Baker trash stuff. He is a garbage. Did we win last week ? Did he play last week ?

  28. Buc1987 Says:

If they can’t beat a 2 win team then they have no business being in the playoffs.

  29. MCWAY Says:

This ain’t college football. The ugly wins count too. NFC SOUTH CHAMPS….again!!!!
