Thank You, Mariah Godwin!

December 10th, 2023

Clutch.

Maybe Trey Palmer’s significant other needs to torch Todd Bowles on social media, too?

We all know about “GodwinGate,” as D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution called it. Mariah Godwin, Chris Godwin’s wife, tore into Bowles on Instagram last week. To make amends, it looked today like Baker Mayfield was forcing the ball to Godwin.

To no avail.

But late in the game with the Bucs down by a field goal with just over a minute left, third-and-10 at midfield, Mayfield took a snap from shotgun and threw Godwin’s way.

Tom Brady’s favorite target in clutch situations — and overall — showed he’s still got it. Godwin hauled in a 32-yard catch-and-run to set the Bucs up, first down on the Dixie Chicks-15.

Two plays later, Cade Otton made a beautiful over-the-shoulder catch from Mayfield who dropped the pass in the bucket.

Touchdown Bucs.

Game-winning play, Bucs.

First place Bucs!

Joe sure is glad that Mariah Godwin teed off on Bowles. Instead of ignoring Godwin, the Bucs began targeting him. Maybe too much. But at the end, those targets paid off.

As Gene Deckeroff said on the Buccaneers Radio Network right after the game, “If I had a cannon I’d fire it!”

Thank you, Mariah!

    CLUTCH!

  2. Tbbucs3 Says:

Trey Palmer has been a disappointment this year….reminds me of Cecil Shorts and Kenny Bell. Need to find a new #3

  3. bucs107 Says:

    He dropped a couple too

  4. Jeff Says:

Nice job catching the perfectly thrown ball. Godwin is so slow! He’s a shell of his former self.

  5. HC Grover Says:

We won. Yep we won. Love it. Now we Attack the Pack and head for the Stainks Game for all the Marbles.

  6. Mike Johnson Says:

Clutch. Buit the player of the day was Mr. Winfield. If only everybody on Defense would play like that guy.

  7. Miller5252 Says:

Godwin didn’t look very good until that last play. The days of him catching a lot of balls over the middle just doesn’t happen anymore. Godwin and Evans are on a team that doesn’t want to use them unless they have to. Coaches need gone and they can take Baker with them.

  8. HC Grover Says:

To get to SB you first have to win division. Now I think we will.

  9. dmatt Says:

We should’ve had Mariah come in to fire her, my bad, our Cannon😬

  10. rrsrq Says:

Tbbucs3, they talked about Palmers speed, they used him differently during preseason and where are the go routes for Palmer, better coaching, better offensive design, he would be better

  11. VATom Says:

I think we can see why Godwin has fallen in the stats. He either needs more targets to get back in synch, or he has lost a lot of his mojo. I don’t know which one. He is a hell of a Buc and a great dude. But he needs to get consistent. Maybe it was the passes? Baker threw his share of garbage today. But Chris had drops and he looked like the turf was holding him back or he is off his speed. He wasn’t fast on the edge.

  12. orlbucfan Says:

Yep, a few missed passes courtesy of BM and Canales. Mariah is his wife’s name? Ugh, don’t like it cos I hate Mariah Carey. Bucs won’t make the Stupid Bowl. Too many injuries and rookie coaches and players.

  13. Dan the Bucs fan Says:

We forced the ball to him all day. He can’t get open they should release him in off season they can both go.

  14. Red86 Says:

We need all of our wideouts’ and tight ends’ wives and girlfriends to bash Todd Bowles. I’ll keep the heat on Baker to step up with tds.

  15. dmatt Says:

    Miller5252, I agree with
Bowles n Msyfield can go. Bowles was trying to give the game away n why wouldn’t Canales let Mayfield run a few naked bootlegs on the 4th downs that got White stuffed in the backfield. Poor play calling. Bowles once again went into halftime with 2-3 timeouts that could’ve been used to put more points on the board. Am I the only one to realize he was satisfied with a 12-10 lead. Well never make it out of the infamous Lambeau field with a victory with Bowles conservative play calling.

  16. Lakeland Steve Says:

How about we just start throwing to whomever is open. Forget forcing the ball to Godwin and Evans, just get it to the open guy.

  17. Buddha Says:

This was the fourth game this year that Baker Mayfield put the Buccaneers ahead with fewer than two minutes left in the game. Finally, the defense didn’t crumble though they certainly tried. Should have won the first against Atlanta and the game in Houston. Instead of 6-7, we would be 8-5.

  18. Miller5252 Says:

@dmatt Bowles thinks his D will stop em from putting points up and he is satisfied with a 2-3 point lead. Typical D coach. All game long they play to run the clock down and win with D instead of racking up the points and pushing the ball down the field. The better they run the ball the worse Baker looks throwing it. Clean house on the coaches.

  19. BUCS4LIFE Says:

Lmao Joe! I said that exact title to this article to my wife.

  20. ElioT Says:

For $20M he better be clutch

  21. Leslie Opyd Says:

You have good wide outs ,throw the damn ball .

  22. captivajim Says:

Godwin was in the slot on that play–where he should be -not on the outside

  23. Destinjohnny Says:

I think they were forcing it way to much to chris

  24. Davenport Says:

Says everything you need to know about the strength of the HC and OC.

The entire focus of the offense changes because the WIFE of a player complains.

  25. NCalBucsfan Says:

I think Godwins knee isn’t 100 percent. I would not be surprised if he needs some additional surgery after the seasons over. He has never been fast, but it looks like he is slower out of cuts than he used to be…..

  26. Bubby Says:

I didn’t feel like we passed more, we just forced the ball to 14 when passing. Let’s be honest, Godwin was having a bad game until he turned it around with the final catch.

How about this…. Could we target both Mike and Chris somewhat evenly?

  27. Usfbuc Says:

Ugh I hate part time fans. Godwin is fine it’s our inability to possess the ball which is caused in part by having a slightly less accurate QB and no running game most of the time. If you really watch the game the play design is terrible. We often have multiple WRs in the same space.

  28. Cometowin2 Says:

Chris just had a bad game and was there at the end when we needed him. He’s fine. He’s one of the most doubled covered receivers in the league right now. Mike is 1A and Chris is 1B. He also is still recovering from the ACL.

  29. lanshark Says:

I just spent most of last night going over every offensive play in the Carolina game, looking specifically for 3 things: a) how much time did Baker have to throw b) what were his reads, and c) did he go through his progressions?

    The answers:

    a) less than 2.75 seconds on average

    b) He threw to his first read about 90% of the time. I only saw 3 clear check-downs, usually
after he got flushed from the pocket in less than 3 seconds.

    c) No – didn’t have time.

It was very interesting – he pretty much throws to his first read because he does not have time to do his progressions. Godwin was targeted as the 1st read 3 times… first one he flat out dropped, second one he caught, third one he made a TERRIBLE cut (no separation) and got clobbered. He does look slow coming out of his breaks, no separation at all. Clearly, he is either not 100% or is not being schemed open (that was a general theme).

As for “open receivers” – I saw a few, but clearly they were not the primary read on the play. Most of the time they were on the back side of the play.

Will do the same for the Atlanta game. Hard to tell on first watching whether the problems were with BM accuracy, or wrong routes, and in a couple cases clear interference with the route (not necessarily a penalty, just disrupted the route timing)

  30. dmatt Says:

Don’t target “see ball catch ball” Trey Palmer, he’s another Scotty Miller, straight line speed dropsies,n scared of contact. For those who believe in Trey Palmer, get use to it, he’s nothing but ALL mouth.

  31. Brendahadababy Says:

Mayfield made some really bad throws today to Godwin and others. Godwin had a couple bad drops. Nothing to be bragging about.

  32. Glass (almost) Half Full Guy Says:

It definitely seemed like they were forcing rhe ball to Godwin, especially early. Glad he made some clutch plays down the stretch.

Godwin did look slow, even on turf. It very well might be his knee. He got up limping a couple of times.

I’m no sure what was going on with the routes today. Too many times we had 2 or more receivers occupying the same 5 Sq. yd. area. What happened to Canales’ “use every blade of grass” approach?

Baker had more time than usual to throw but ATL seemed to be going all-in on stopping our passing game and there weren’t too many open targets out there. I think so many of his throws were throw-aways or he gave up on the guys getting open and didn’t want to risk a pick.

Glad we won and are in first place, but we’re only renting it with an option to buy right now. We don’t own it yet.

  33. Confido75 Says:

We can thank Mariah all we want, but the fact she had to do what she did is the problem with coaching right now. This would not have happened with the right leadership in the locker room!

  34. Mediocre Mayfield Says:

    Start trask

  35. Jason Anthony Sturgess Says:

Yeah a second round QB is going to play better than the first pick in the NFL draft, Baker Mayfield? You know nothing

  36. Jason Anthony Sturgess Says:

Are all Tampa Bay fans as stupid as you Mayfield haters?

  37. garro Says:

    God love Mean Gene Deckerhoff!

Ugly win but I’ll tkae it.

    Go Bucs!
