Recapping Todd Bowles’ Friday News Conference

December 29th, 2023

Carlton Davis is one of three Bucs ruled out for Sunday.

Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles had a 3 minute, 50 second news conference today.

Here are Bowles’ key shares:

  1. “We’re trying to win a division.”
  2. Shaq Barrett, Ko Kieft and Carlton Davis are out with injuries and will not play Sunday.
  3. Who starts in place of Barrett against the Saints, Anthony Nelson or Joe Tryon-Shoyinka? It will depend on “the package.”
  4. The message stays the same for this week. “We just gotta keep doing it.”
  5. YaYa Diaby and Antoine Winfield Jr. would prefer postseason success to winning Defensive Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively.
  6. Winning the NFC South on Sunday would be huge for coaches, players and fans. Specifically, Bowles said fans have heard all year the Bucs won’t win two, three or four games. Joe isn’t sure who Bowles listens to; but it must be Peter King.

  1. Panhandle Buc Says:

I want to see that 2020 post season intensity on D…for starters. D White…to name a few!

  2. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Funny stuff – after Winfield’s interception, the players rowed the boat in the end zone – and Vita was standing in the “boat” fishing. Made me laugh.

  3. Lt. Dan Says:

I wonder – If the Bucs do win the NFC South this Sunday, does Bowles rest key starters the following Saturday or Sunday or Monday night or Thursday night at Carolina. Joe’s any insight as to when that Carolina game will be played? Asking for myself – not a friend.

  4. not Says:

LOL, TB says “we have a taste for blood” !
Did he say that with his standard mumbling, soft , monotone voice ???

  5. Dave Pear Says:

Hopefully Todd has a taste for Saints blood. The way his secondary has been playing this season, it’s been Bucs blood, as in, they’ve been bleeding all over the damn field.

  6. SB~LV Says:

Saints are always tough and looking to play the spoiler in the RayJay.
    Anything goes!

  7. Jerseybuc Says:

Joe stinka keep his bum a$& right on the sideline

  8. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Davis, Dean, JTS, Logan Hall and DW have been Hugh busts. Let’s hope DW can improve his play for the rest of the season. The others provide no hope.

  9. Baking with Canales Says:

    Let’s bring the hammer!
    LFG!!!

  10. Dave Pear Says:

Something that should happen – everyone has been exploiting the Bucs cover 3 zone bust coverage. A coach skilled in adjustment and corrective action would be able to bait Carr into throwing the deep out into that coverage, but it’s fixed where Winfield jumps the out and picks it off. Bowles won’t do that, he would have done it by now if he could.

    Shame.

  11. Carolina K Says:

    74 Bucs

That made me laugh just thinking about it

  12. Bosch Says:

Short and sweet. I hope that is assign of laser focus.

  13. orlbucfan Says:

Oh give it a rest, Pear. Bucs aren’t playing the 49ers or Ravens this Sunday. Jax is better than what’s left of the Aints. I’m expecting a shutout. Like, why not?

  14. 1#bucsfan Says:

Pelsbuc61 dean n davis arnt bust. We don’t win a SB without them and white. They haven’t had a good season but far from busts

  15. Dave Pear Says:

Oral Buc, it’s kind of humorous that you get triggered by silly observations based on fact.

Question: what team has the most yards per game passing allowed in the NFL this season?

Question: what team allows the most game winning drives in the last 40 seconds since the divisional championship of 2021?

Question: what team busts the most zone coverages?

Hint – it’s not the Saints.

  16. Proudbucsfan Says:

Bowles “please” don’t start JTS no matter what package is there as the matter of fact, package all his things up and send him packing out Tampa.

  17. garro Says:

“Todd Bowles had a 3 minute, 50 second news conference today.”

Someone from One Buc finally convinced Todd that if he talks less, he has less of a chance of sticking his foot in his mouth? Ala Godwins wife and White is my best player. LOL

    Go Bucs!

  18. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

Can’t the Bucs start the punter in place of Jts. At least the punter could kick someone in the right places…. Just sayin. What a conundrum.

  19. Fred Says:

Hopefully Dean will ride the pine the whole game.

  20. orlbucfan Says:

Rotten Pear, it’s spelled O-R-L, not O-R-A-L. I don’t get into specifics so that’s why I read comments written by others who do. Now, are those so-called ‘questions’ you posted just more of your Bucs ridicule or not?
