Mike Evans And No Marshon Lattimore

December 31st, 2023

Explosion predicted.

Mike Evans is going to be a Hall of Famer. It may take a few years after he is eligible, but he will make it.

Still, despite a brilliant career and being the model of receiver consistency, there is one constant hiccup for Evans. That is slimy Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore.

For reasons not quite clear, Lattimore more often than not has owned Evans. Lattimore has a knack for getting in Evans’ head. It’s been five years since Evans has had a 100-yards receiving game against New Orleans.

Katherine Terrell of BSPN predicts that ends today. Why? Well, Lattimore is still on injured reserve. But Terrell notes the slimy Saints have suddenly become very leaky in the secondary.

… The Saints struggled to contain the Rams’ receivers last week, leading to the temporary benching of slot corner Alontae Taylor, and Evans has been a factor in almost every game he has played this season.

In fact, the Rams torched the slimy Saints for 304 yards passing last week.

Joe can argue that the Bucs have better receivers than the Rams. Rookie Rams receiver Puka Nacua is balling out. Cooper Kupp, however, is having a down year.

Not only do the slimy Saints have to worry about Evans, but they also have to check Chris Godwin, who could break 1,000 yards receiving today. And Rachaad White may be the most dangerous pass-catching back in the game.

So on paper, Joe thinks the Bucs are more dangerous than the Rams. So if the Rams can roast the slimy Saints, so too should the Bucs.

Rachaad breaks ankles in the open field. He has improved his running a bit, still needs to concentrate on running through and breaking tackles. He’s a big back so there isn’t any excuse for him to not run people over.

  2. Dave Pear Says:

Keep Todd in a locker room closet and let Dave Canales coach a cuffs-off passing attack, while the defense is instructed to play press-man coverage, rotating double teams as the personnel groupings dictate.

Joe has hit the Delta 8 disposable hard this morning, in his Rams/Bucs comps. But I like it.

I hope Marshawn writes a book some day. I am curious how he can enrage the coolest wideout in the league so quickly, every game they play.

5 wins in a row and Division title. Is this the Tampa Bay Bucs? If I’m dreaming, don’t wake me up!!

If the Bucs find an answer to the Saints stacking the box and run blitzes ,things will hum. If not, we’ll witness another slugfest with them. The OL has been playing well lately, if this continues, another division title will be had!

I remember being 5-0 in 1979 and the Bucs on the cover of Sports Illustrated and later that year watching them win the division over the Chiefs in a torrential rainstorm wearing a trash bag we paid $3 for.

    Make me a memory Bucs!!!

  13. BPBucsfan Says:

Let’s hope that there’s not a repeat of last year when the Steelers were down to USFL talent in the secondary and Lefty chose to run right at the teeth of the Steelers defense and run the ball. I remember thinking “Brady is going to have a field day with that secondary”, instead Cam Heyward and the defensive front line had a field day stopping the run. Go Bucs!! Make next week basically meaningless!!

  14. BringBucsBack Says:

cometowin2, I had that SI magazine for a very long time. I might still have it but, it may have fallen to the ravages of the FL. moisture and mold, stored away al these years.

That ’79 team game me much more confidence in a deep playoff run than this one, however. Prove me wrong, Bucs!
