Devin White Was Healthy Or Motivated (Or Both)

December 24th, 2023

Strong return.

Most Bucs fans were like Joe: They had given up on Devin White because it appeared White had given up on the Bucs.

The nonsense that took place last week where White informed Bucs coach Todd Bowles either Friday or Saturday or Sunday that his injured foot wasn’t healthy enough to play turned a lot of fans off on White. For good.

White had regressed ever since that glorious 2020 postseaosn when White was a beast, helping the Bucs win their second title. This year he played nowhere near as well.

Until today, when apparently his foot was healthy again.

White showed flashes of the 2020 playoffs. He blitzed, he covered people, he rushed throws from Trevor Lawrence and he flushed him.

White, for a change this season, was a force.

Given how the Bucs have played the past couple of weeks, it’s hard for Joe to envision the team not being in the playoffs. They are now 8-7 and the last game of the year is against the lowly Stinking Panthers.

Equally important, the Bucs are on a roll, four wins in a row and the offense is humming.

The Bucs will need a motivated White to play like he did tonight when the playoffs begin. He finished with a half-sack, two quarterback hits, two passes defended and an interception. That’s making an impact.

And, White had a sack stolen from him by one of the most asinine roughing the passer calls you will ever see.

White actually should have had 2 1/2 sacks. Somehow Lawrence pulled a Houdini act on White and escaped his clutches.

Joe thinks it is fair to say White is healthy again. Or at least motivated.

Devin was a welcome sight today

  2. Ko Kiefer Says:

This is why I’m kept asking y’all about Ira’s vague reporting that White had played his final snap as a Buc. Ir has proven to be erroneous.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    That was a BS penalty

  4. Lakeland Steve Says:

    Motivated

When white is motivated he’s great when he’s not he’s not. Frustrates me how he can go thru the motions some games and or plays.

Nothing like sticking a corncob of stink eye up his butt. Definitely got his attention. The way he’s been loafing, his foot better be 100%!

  7. Buccos Says:

He looked good. The whole team did. I’m just worried about Winfield

When Devin White is going downhill good things happen.

  9. Bucfan1988 Says:

Just saw Todd Bowles interview after the game. Reporters asked about Winfields concussion. Bowles said that he was fine and would have been able to go back in the game. He has no concussion.

    THANK YOU LORD!!!

Wish he’d stop the freakin celebrating after every play he makes because the defense tends to turn around and give the yardage right back. Sometimes just grab your lunch pail and go back to work

  11. Citrus County Says:

Could someone in the Bucs front office have planted the “last snap” story as a motivating ploy? If the Bucs play their cards right they may get a motivated and remorseful White to resign at a discount. His reputation has been tarnished and perhaps his best opportunity (from his perspective) is to remain at home where Coach Bowles can keep him on a short leash.

  12. Tap-Outtakes Says:

    Devin (THE GREAT 45) White….leave him alone!….that was a 3 year 45 mill $ performance today!

  13. August 1976 Buc Says:

Hard for Ira spin this. For whatever reasons, White was in Beast mode today. But the comment about White playing his last down this season looks dubious at best Ira?

  14. adam from ny Says:

he was kinda beasting out there today…

makes you wonder if you let him walk, will we regret it…

he’s a heck of a player when he really comes to play…

    who is the real DW…?

when you see him play like this, you want to lock him into a contract

  15. Leighroy Says:

If we’re giving White credit for Houdini sacks, are we also detracting from our OL when Baker pulls his escape artist moves on 3rd down? This knife cuts both ways…

  16. CTBucs Says:

Still don’t need him. He’s the last of the big free agents (Mike, Winfield, Lavonte, Wirfs extension). Don’t think the money will be there for DW45 when all is said and done

  17. BUCS4LIFE Says:

What I saw was a TEAM! They played as a team and fed off of each other. They were having fun. It’s hard to beat a team when they’re playing like a team. It was an absolute joy to have witnessed it. Great Job and congratulations! Keep it going! Go BUCS!

  18. toad bowels Says:

Wow! Devin White is awesome when he is used correctly as he was today.

  19. Pick6 Says:

How motivated will he be if he gets the contract that tells him he’s the best at what he does? The guy needs a JPP or Suh type to tell him when his tape doesn’t justify his ego. He was locked in when those types of butt kickers were in the mix
