Bucs Seize “Dangerous” Label

December 18th, 2023

You know things are going well when the Bucs are featured on the Football Night In America roundtable.

Joe imagines Team Glazer watching their team being praised before millions and thinking of how that translates into more cash for the famous Team Glazer vault at One Buc Palace.

There the Bucs were again on NBC last night for the second week in a row following a thrilling victory. After posting 29 points in Atlanta, the Bucs came back and hammered away for 34 in Green Bay. And it could have been more!

Score points and the NFL pays attention. Win games and score points and you become a dangerous January football team.

Former Belicheats defensive back Devin McCourty noted how the Packers were that team two weeks ago but then lost to the Giants and got smacked around by the Bucs yesterday in Green Bay. Now, per McCourty, the Bucs are that “dangerous” club steaming toward the playoffs.

Nobody on the panel disagreed.

Former quarterback and Cowboys head coach talked about how Baker Mayfield feeds on confidence and clicking with elite targets like Chris Godwin and Mike Evans will only make Mayfield more confident.

Joe will add that the Bucs’ running game improving from godawful to decent will help Mayfield’s confidence as well.

So how dangerous are the Bucs? Joe can’t classify them as dangerous yet. The defense is way too leaky overall and the pass rush is lacking.

However, this is all a heck of a lot of fun. And if the Bucs can finish this season strong, as in winning at least their final two games (Saints and Panthers) and playing well in those games, Joe will be all-in on the Bucs being dangerous.

I get that being talked about positively in the media is exciting, but I much prefer when there isn’t any hype. I feel like this team always starts to drink the kool aid, buys into their own hype and then hits a big slump when that happens.

  2. Bucs 95 Says:

Lawerence in concussion protacal were gonna smash the jaguars 8-7 loading

  3. Onetrickpony Says:

Ive seen that DI, in the past, also

  4. SlyPirate Says:

Fun Fact: The Bucs haven’t beaten a single team with a winning record (at the time of play).

    “Dangerous” if you’re sub-.500.

  5. nick houllis Says:

SLyPiratesays: WEEEE haven’t been a winning team. so what does that say if we beat other teams like us. that’s who your supposed to beat. We know this team isn’t IT… but add a few choice players next year when we have money, and maybe on heels of 3 division titles in a row… hell yeah. bring em back.. and add on

  6. Brent Clark Says:

Damn guys we’re knocking on the door of the playoffs and 3rd strait NFC South Title WTF?!?! Remember pre-season the talking heads had us winning 3 games! So jump on the bandwagon! GO BUCS!!!!

  7. Zoocomics Says:

    @ nick houllis…perfectly said dude.

Great to see the Offense come together. I gave up on them the last couple weeks. It’s been so ugly and disappointing. The Defense is still a mess. But they definitely had Green Bay’s number. I really enjoyed the overall lack of penalties and smart play yestersay. Hats off to Canales and Mayfield for putting that one together. Id love to see this as the new standard going forward. The Defense (?) sigh. The run fits looked good after the 1st quarter. When GB HAD to pass and couldn’t afford to run they really couldnt rely on the pass. I don’t know whay the pass D has crapped out this yr. But damned if Bowles and his coaches don’t deserve credit for the red zone offense. Its just that 23 yd pass they can’t defend. At least at the 5yd line they can’t pass for 23 I guess.

Finish out and then I’ll believe. The Bucs are too erratic for some of the optimism on this site. They can be just as awful as they can be good. It’s certainly looking better at the moment.

  10. BucsFan Says:

This is the time of the year that teams want to be playing their best, and Bucs are doing that. Jacksonville will be like a wounded animal after losing 3 in a row , Bucs have to be as desperate. GO BUCCANEERS!!

  11. Hodad Says:

I’m happy we’ve gone on a 3 game win streak, but as it stands we’re still a .500 ball club. So are a lot of other teams, nothing to be ashamed of the season. It would be amazing if we can win out, and have a 10 win season. It’s there for the taking, go get it Bucs.

  12. Beeej Says:

I liked that White got his 4.0 average with that last run

  13. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Didn’t Trevor Lawrence’s back up come in a few weeks ago and light the place up along with the opposing team’s back-up?

  14. realistic-optimistic Says:

A team with a better record, a backup QB, and a losing streak are heading to Tampa to take on a Bucs team that’s suddenly getting national love. That’s a bad recipe for Bowles-coached teams. Every time this team gets praised, they get cocky and fold. Bowles has a really hard time dealing with rookie/backup QBs. And, the Bucs are only scoring 15 points per game at home.

Please prove me wrong. Go Bucs.

  15. Weebs10 Says:

Me too Beej! And I loved seeing him slide. He’s a team first guy and quickly becoming one of my favorite players on the team!

  16. orlbucfan Says:

Hey 76, I’ve been a diehard Bucs punter since I learned about them in 79. How about doing yourself a favor and being optimistic next Sunday? It is Xmas Eve, you know. I can bet there’ll be plenty of Bucs butts at RayJay for that one. Interstate rivalry. Kudos to White. He deserves them. Bowles will have no problems cutting the deadwood off his D this offseason. That should loosen the cap.

Fun Fact: The Bucs haven’t beaten a single team with a winning record (at the time of play).

Eh, I mean sure but you gotta beat the bad and mediocre teams first. Plus this is true for several other teams too. Cowboys haven’t beat anyone with a winning record either. Neither have the Dolphins. Cheifs have only beaten 1 team with a winning record at the time they played. And Even the Eagles I believe have only beat 3 teams with winning records at the time (Bucs Dolphins Cheifs).

Really it’s just the Niners, Lions, Bills and Ravens. And I don’t think anyone is believing we’re in the same league as those teams, even though we had opportunities to beat the Bills and the Lions at times.

  18. firethecannons Says:

Bucs could beat the Jags–they have been awful–last night was hard to watch

  19. Pelsbuc61 Says:

    Thank you Mrs Godwin!

  20. garro Says:

Yeah Joe, I’m not with the “dangerous” crowd just yet. We just don’t have the defense for dangerous. Shaq and company start coming on then I will reconsider “dangerous”

    Maybe determined?

    Go Bucs!
