“A Lot Of Strides Made”

November 23rd, 2023

Lots of optimism at One Buc Palace after Sunday’s loss at San Francisco.

The Buccaneers’ film junkies are seeing signs of greatness emerging.

Joe is not joking. Joe got a few stunning texts this week from an important dude at One Buc Palace, but those were private. Head coach Todd Bowles’ comments were not.

He was very upbeat on the Buccaneers Radio Network.

“I’m excited because they jelled,” Bowles said of his offense.

“You know, we got some hard, tough runs inside. I thought Cody [Mauch] played well. I thought [Robert] Hainsey played, and I thought [Aaron] Stinnie played on the interior. You know, until they got til the end I thought they blocked those pass rushers pretty good while we had the run-pass option. When [49ers’ pass rushers] get to tee off at the end of the ballgame, you’re going to get some pressure because those guys get paid a lot of money. But I thought we understood what we were doing offensively and we executed for the most part with the exception of the red zone, but I thought there were a lot of strides made [Sunday] coming from that standpoint, a confidence standpoint.”

Joe typically looks around for Fox Mulder when people refer to how the Bucs’ running game is looking better. It’s like an X-file episode. All that’s missing is Joel Glazer smoking in a trench coat.

Regardless, Joe knows the optimism among Bucs officials is very real, and the offense has been better overall the past few games.

Joe is rolling with the good vibes. Now go put 27 on a Colts team with a bunch of weaknesses.

DaRon Bland from the Cowboys picked of his 7th pass of the season today (5tf pick-6)

Davis & Dean both have 7 picks in their entire careers.

DaRon Bland makes less than $1m a year.

  2. Ron Potter Says:

Nice to hear they think the iOL is doing better, but when is this going to translate to better runs? Better offense? More points? And more Ws?

  3. Rod Munch Says:

“Lots of optimism at One Buc Palace after Sunday’s loss at San Francisco.”

They were down by 20 points in the 4th quarter, and lost by 13.

How can anyone possibly feel good about that? This wasn’t a 6 point game and they had a fumble on the goaline with 5 seconds left that was returned for a TD.

They want people to think they’re a playoff team, and they’re angry and mad about getting blown out – but instead talking about moral victories?

That is absolutely unbelievable. What a complete loser mindset from a loser head coach.

No wonder Brady couldn’t retire quick enough to get away from this guy.

  4. Ron Potter Says:

I hear you loud and clear ElioT! Inexcusable for Carlton and Jamel. Hope Licht heard what they said about looking for secondary in college who actually pickoff passes.

  5. Derek Says:

Davis & Dean have zero picks this year. Daron Bland just got his 5th pick six of the year. Our CBs are bums

  6. Jack Clark Says:

On God Joe, I swear there will be no other person who “is better than me”

    😂😂😂😂😂

  7. Jack Clark Says:

I guarantee you no weakness on Joe Platform 🤡 unless U want me to embarrass U 🫵🏽 😂 🤡

  8. DS Says:

Joe loves Mayfield but we consistently can’t score over 20 pts lol

  9. Jack Clark Says:

Who and what do I have to body?

  10. Jack Clark Says:

    Hi and who?

  11. Zwak Says:

Just keep doing what your doing, we will have a low first round QB pick and a new head coach next year!

  12. David Says:

Some major changes next year. I don’t know how much longer SHAQ will be here. He’s very good but not for what they’re paying him.
JTS should be gone. Devon White should be traded. They should have signed Shaq Leonard this week.
They will need a center and a guard.
And of course they’re going to draft a quarterback

So, according to me, they’re not ready to emerge as anything. This year is out what young guys stay and which ones go.

Then, of course there’s the age of LVD and Mike Evans, but they need to do everything they can to keep them here and retire as Buccaneers into the Hall of Fame

  13. dbbuc711 Says:

Unfortunately, I no longer have optimism

  14. Beeej Says:

They cut Leonard because he has serious injuries that he doesn’t seem to be coming back from, and he makes a LOT of money, that the Bucs would have to assume

  15. Jack Clark Says:

    Tee hee 🤭

  16. ElioT Says:

    14 freaking points.

    Yeah Toad, future is bright.

Got the league right where you want them.

  17. ModHairKen Says:

    Ramblings of an idiot

  18. Jeff Says:

Lol! Clueless Todd strikes again! Bucs score 10 points or less this week. Clueless will insist they play down to their level of competition. Dungy stubborn, Lovie stupid!

  19. David Says:

Sign of optimism, scoring 7 points in first and score 7 point in garbage time of second half. This is an a·tro·cious offense scoring 1.5 TD per game. Joe expect Bucs score 27 points on a bad team. Season is over. Start young back up players that have promising starting futures in NFL including Trask. The dumbest GM in NFL who draft a qb as the GOAT future replacement but allow a losing coach to provide him with his own version of qb. Leave GM, HC, QB behind if we lose to Colts or any other bad teams going forward.

  20. Bucsmarley Says:

We are satisfied are you kidding me. Our qb puts up 14 points and you want to sign him to long term contract. I’ve been a fan since the beginning. I remember winless season’s almost but this is getting harder to watch because of the talent on the current roster. Our coaching is horrendous and I hope they trade Trask so he can go to a team that can develop a qb. Mayfield is nothing but a backup and any thoughts of making him the starter next year is just plain inexcusable

  21. Let ‘em bake Says:

Yes, they lost to sf , but relative to common opponents , Bucs are headed in right direction. If Mauch and stinnie continue to improve, a ripple effect could happen. Better runs means holding lbs a split second longer, means bigger windows for receivers. Play action will have a bit more bite. Otton could be featured a great deal more on quick slants and hot reads. Baker could put together some 3 td games. Fingers crossed .

  22. Faspro Says:

    Seattle’s getting torched…

  23. RGA Says:

I keep hearing the offensive line is protecting the QB well and I agree they are much improved over last year. If the line protects better, shouldn’t the QB complete passes downfield at a higher rate? Rashad White is excelling as a pass catching back because the QB is not proficient at completing passes longer then 10 yards, he’s pretty good at the swing pass to White.

  24. Let ‘em bake Says:

Look at the Niners toying with Seattle. Bucs were 13-7 at half last week. Look how geno is under seige. Ditto trevor Lawrence 3 weeks ago. Bucs o line is getting there.. Mauch is a rookie. Niners a great measuring stick. They bring clarity. Coaches quietly optimistic, knowing they won’t see a front 7 equal to sf this year, and while still looking to the future, are probably looking with one eye to next year and pleased. Patience…

  25. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Optimism is great, but lose to the Colts and the seat is on 🔥

This is the game where we have to put it all together. NO MORE EXCUSES

Problem is, if our division keeps losing and we stay close, same old same old and we end up 7-10 and never get to see the development of younger guys, including Trask. So go win games and take back the division lead.

  26. Jack New Says:

    I believe in 74 Bucs Fan 😂

  27. Defense Rules Says:

74 Bucs Fan … ‘Optimism is great, but lose to the Colts and the seat is on 🔥. This is the game where we have to put it all together. NO MORE EXCUSES’.

    B-I-N-G-O.

  28. Mike Johnson Says:

Bucs need to go on a roll before they hit the Jags in about 4 games. All of these upcoming games have very beatable opponents. But I am not confident we can do it….

  29. NYbucsfan Says:

Lol, I can’t even with this BS. 1 and 5!!! Todd Bowles is a joke!! I can’t expect going from BA and TB12 to the worst coach in the NFL Todd Bowles and Baker. I will not not ok with getting stuck in purgatory.

  30. dmatt Says:

Why do we continue drafting tight ends who either cant block or catch. Otton is suspect, he can’t block, he’s passive, n truth be told, the dropped pass in the end zone isn’t the first time he dropped a pass. He has a habit of bobbling passes, then maintain possession. The Packers will be licking their chops when we visit them next month.

  31. Obvious Says:

Me Either! Why are we still doing this clown show? Well because “somebody with the actual power” is buying time to get through cap hell. I believe the actual goal is the highest draft pick possible and they aren’t going to help Bowles through it. THEY HAVEN’T moved on anything more than what we drafted.

WE ARE ON A SHOE STRING BUDGET and the boys in the office are standing pat..

The phrase “your guys are your guys” couldn’t ring more true than it rings right now.

The head office (as Joe has pointed out) is just “going through the motions”. NOTHING MORE and nothing less.

It’s the silent tank. And THEY HAVE NOT, WILL NOT remove Bowles. It’s ALL about the cap and the draft pick for 2024’s “New Head Coach”. I think it’s Very Possible that they already have someone in the box with a variety of other head coach styles and flavors to chose from just in case But, I think they already have someone in mind and on the down low have been working on a deal.

I mean JL has to be doing something besides just sitting around for the season. Right? Right JL?

And if not…. then guys like me sticking up for you are going to DISSAPPEAR in a hurry! If you bring back Todd Bowles next year then Screw You JL! I’ll be sticking up for you until then.

  32. Beeej Says:

Would removing Bowles help with this roster? dunno

  33. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    I miss Dungy.

Anyway, winning this game means absolutely nothing. Beating the worst team in the league? Whoopie.

Now if we lose? Don’t know how anyone can Justify that, other than to say we are tanking.

    This coach is doomed.

  34. Pelsbuc61 Says:

OBP is selling a lot of kool aid in order to save their jobs. Problem is the eyes don’t deceive.

  35. BillyBucco Says:

Sf just beat a Seattle team that is good worse than us.
The offense has life and the coming schedule is easier.
I still have a tiny bit of hopium.
I also have a lot of running QBs that can pass accurately that I like in this draft.
I would take Jordan Travis in a heartbeat if he fell because of his injury.

  36. Sal Says:

No real head coach no real running back no playoffs in 2023 #!!

  37. Lombardi Lenny Says:

I agree with everything Rod posted here.

    Scroll up and read it.

There is a TOXIC loser mentality swirling around this organization.

  38. HC Grover Says:

    Sounds like another great loss.

  39. D-Rok Says:

If the Bucs lose to the Colts, Bowles or some coach will say, “Well, it wasn’t a division game, so we’re gonna be fine.”

  40. mick Says:

Zwak Says: “Just keep doing what your doing, we will have a low first round QB pic.”

And pick up a franchise quarterback like these recent first round quarterbacks?

    Trey Lance
    Zach Wilson
    Mac Jones
    Justin Fields
    Johnny Manzel
    Sam Darnold
    Josh Rosen
    Mitchell Trubisky
    Carson Wentz
    Blake Bortles
    Blaine Gabbert
    Teddy Bridgewater
    Sam Bradford
    Geno Smith
    Christian Ponder

Would it not make more sense to first find out what our rostered second-round quarterback can do? That’s what any other NFL team would do, I’ll tell you that.

  41. Glass Half Full Guy Says:

I re-watched the 49ers game two days ago and I felt the offense did show some life against a very good defense. They just couldn’t sustain drives due to mistakes and you can’t make mistakes against a top team when you are average at best.

Dropped passes, penalties, etc. We go from a TD that gets dropped to the next play being a strip-sack of Mayfield, so no points. The 49ers took advantage of our mistake, like good teams do.

There were some questionable non-calls that could have helped the Bucs but good teams don’t need to rely on the zebras. The defense hurt our offense by being atrocious in the passing game, forcing us to, once again, play from behind and become one-dimensional. With that 49ers pass rush….good luck with that.

Play calling wasn’t very good again and Godwin was back on the milk carton (6 catches for 39 yards) but to be fair, the ball got spread around to a lot of receivers but none had 50+ yards. Otton led the team with 49 yards.

They never got into a true up-tempo mode, especially when they had the 49ers defensive package at a disadvantage, they didn’t speed things up to prevent them from making substitutions. They practically invited them to substitute players, something we continue to overlook. That’s squarely on the coaches. Mayfield may have a lot of experience for a still-young-ish QB but he’s no field general with cred like P. Manning or Tom Brady and can’t tell his coaches “F*ck this. We’re going no-huddle against this defensive package”.

They need to fix the defensive secondary and if they can’t, they need a better Plan B on offense to compensate with tempo so the game clock doesn’t become another obstacle to overcome along with the scoreboard.

  42. Jeff Says:

Imagine if the JTS pick was the best WR on the board. Maybe we’d have a
WR that could catch Baker’s TD passes.

Imagine if the JTS pick was the best WR on the board. Maybe we’d have a

Bucs receivers currently have a 3% Dropped Pass rate with 11.
Mayfield has a Bad Throw rate of 15% with 53 and one less than Bryce Young.

Seems to me Mayfield is 5x’s worse at throwing it than the Receivers are at catching it.

Not to mention the numerous times they layer out to pull in passes that were poorly thrown.

Then again that’s always been the M.O. Blame everyone but Baker.

  44. Falconrap Says:

If the play calling is so atrocious, why do the receivers keep getting open on passing plays? They can’t catch the ball if it’s not thrown to them, or, if it is, it’s thrown over their heads or way to the side of them. I’ve already detailed on another post how Otton and Godwin were both open in front of Mayfield on the play he panicked, tucked the ball and ran, then fumbled it, while in field goal range. Otton was wide open for a TD, and Godwin had leverage for a pass in front of him well past the sticks for a first. It’s not the play calling most of the time (thought there are still a few bad play calls during the games). It’s the QB.

  45. D Cone Says:

My Bad Receivers 13 Drops 3.8% QB 53 Bad throws 15.7% . 4.1 x More Bad Passes vs Drops

  46. orlbucfan Says:

BB, you’re turning into an idiot. Bucs would have had a chance if Canales would h kindly get it with his Offense. He didn’t and throttled them. I still don’t know if Bucs would have won, but that score would have reflected how good our players are.

  47. Deadwood South Dakota Says:

Don’t worry joe we don’t need to knw u r contacts ..u ur contacts and the coaching staff havnt been right on anything all season..

  48. BakerBucs Says:

from what I see we r lucky we’re getting 20 points that’s cause Mayfield is doing everything he can just to get those if we stop dropping sure td’s those # wud b even better.we need to be the positive site like most of the other sites out there.we have a future with this squad & few good ass ones this off season things r looking up compared to last year cud u imagine Brady in there this year he wid be in the hospital or in a cast this year thank the Lord’s for Baker this season he is awesome to watch keeps me glued to the boob tube

  49. BakerBucs Says:

9er’s score was interesting cause we shud have taken the 2 sure field goals instead of going on 4 down we wud have been 1 td’ out & at that point had plenty of time to get that other TD but they chose to go on 4 down 2 times & got no points out of it I say take the sure thing & then ago all out at the end that might have changed the out come wud any of u agree with that

  50. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

How far are you going to blow sunshine up our collective backsides?

1-5 in the last 6 games.

“We saw some greatness after the game was in hand and San Francisco took their foot off the gas”

    It delusional.

This is a bad football team. The running game is scant. The QB can’t commit the intermediate passing game and the pass defense is a sieve.
