Carlton Davis Is Out

September 15th, 2023

Bucs CB Carlton Davis.

It is a done deal. Carlton Davis will not play Sunday.

The outstanding Bucs cornerback, who is often lined up against an opponent’s No. 1 receiver, hasn’t practiced this week due to a toe injury.

Today, Bucs coach Todd Bowles said Davis likely doesn’t play in the home-opener against the Bears. This was confirmed when the final injury report was released this afternoon.

“Carlton is probably going to be out this game,” Bowles said.

Nickel corner Christian Izien has missed practice this week as he has been in concussion protocol and is listed as questionable. Bowles said he must pass certain tests before Izien can be cleared to play. Joe is not counting on it.

Also, Calijah Kancey (calf) and SirVocea Dennis (hamstring) have been ruled out.

    Davis always hurt man

  2. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

He gets paid too much to be that fragile.

  3. TonySoprano Says:

Perfect. Yet another season we can pencil in Carlton to miss at least 4-6 games. And the games that he does play, he’s always banged up and less than 100%

  4. Buccos Says:

It’s the NFL’s fault. There is no excuse for making these guys play on artificial turf

  5. Winny Testaverde Says:

Turf/Camel Toe can linger for a long time in some cases. This isn’t good.

  6. johnnymoon Says:

Move on from him next season

  7. Dwayne Cone Says:

Davis 15 mil/year. Whitehead 5 mil/year and has already unlocked a 1/4 million in incentives week 1 with 3 Picks. Guess the Bright Lights of the Big city are good for him. I imagine teams throwing away from Gardner helped too.

  8. Marine Buc Says:

    @ johnny

Unfortunately we will still owe Davis @ $14 Million of guaranteed money after this season.

He will be a Buc for at least one more year…

  9. Buc4evr Says:

So Delaney will start which is probably ok. Davis always seems to have nagging injuries and turf toe does not heal quickly. How much are we paying this guy for limited playing time……

  10. NE Fan Says:

Surprise!!! An injured DB on the Bucs, who would of thunk???

  11. SlyPirate Says:

It’s a great thing, Licht made resigning Dean a priority.

  12. The Beer Whisperer Says:

I hope it’s not the dreaded “turf toe” which, has a high probability with athletes.

Severity matters, and concerns should be addressed early. Which I’m sure is happening.

signed… armchair sports medicine expert, lol

  13. A Bucs Fan Says:

I’ve read elsewhere it’s a turf toe injury that is allegedly not serious but could last a few weeks. Time will tell if that report was true.

  14. ElioT Says:

Ouch, has he ever played a full season?

Dang, game two and he’s already lame?

    Not good.

  15. Everything is just horrble! Says:

Poor NE Fan he still upset Brady didn’t retire with the Patriots. Btw how are they doing? Who they beat last week?

  16. Boss Says:

Kancey is the only major one ruled out. I suspect this is just spoke.

CD is a baller. He will be greatly missed if he is out. Hope Izen gets back as well.

they might not be able to blitz with 2 backups in the secondary

  17. Buc4evr Says:

When he said he was going to wreck some s**t this season , I didn’t know he was talking about his toe. Problem is that turf toe injuries linger all season. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is not 100% for the rest of the season.

  18. Boss Says:

    smoke

  19. Marine Buc Says:

According to PFT both Kancey and Davis are out on Sunday.

Not good. One of the keys to success this season is avoiding the injury plague…

Week one and we have 2 defensive starters out already. Not to mention Jenson and Gage are already gone for the season.

  20. 757Buc’em Says:

We better draft corners in the 1st 2 rounds this upcoming draft. I’m so sick of this dude man every yr same shit he’s never ready never stands on his words nor does he cover receivers

  21. Esteban85 Says:

    It’s week 2

  22. LOL Says:

Death, Taxes, Mike Evans 1k, Carlton Davis Questionable with a lower body injury

  23. gbobucsfan Says:

Just hope it’s not Carl Nicks toe bad.

  24. HC Grover Says:

    Torn up Big Toe.

  25. NE Fan Says:

Everything@ the Patriots lost to the current #1 team in the league and your Bucs beat the current last place team in the NFL. Do your homework. The Patriots as bad as they are would beat the piss out of this team if overrated premadonas and they have a very poor WR core.

  26. DJB Says:

Yup, pretty typical for Davis to be dinged up, that and seeing him lying on the field writhing in pain at least once per game when he is able to play.

  27. The Beer Whisperer Says:

If it was easy, I’d do it, but I wouldn’t last 1 week.

  28. KC Buc Says:

Just waiting for NE Fan to leave the rest of us alone with his Brady bromance and delusions. The Patriots would have to be capable of scoring more than 25 points in a game to beat the piss out of anybody and with that joke of a WR core…I think the fudge not. But fear not, NE Fan you can cut the sleeves off one of your hoodies to soothe you in these hard times

  29. A Bucs Fan Says:

I think the Bucs front seven will dominate this game and that Devin White could have a career game if he spies Fields. I’m saying 4-5 sacks and a couple forced fumbles.

  30. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

All these assumptions with no information.

I’d rather hope for the best.

  31. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Estaban

Yes – it is week 2.

What I meant was we have only played one game/one week of football and we are already down 2 defensive starters and 2 offensive starters.

Not a very good start for a team that has limited depth at most positions.

  32. Rod Munch Says:

No matter, the Bucs will win this in blow-out fashion before going on beat the Eagles. Bet your house on it.

  33. KC Buc Says:

Just waiting for NE Fan to leave the rest of us alone with his Brady bromance and delusions. The Patriots would have to be capable of scoring more than 25 points in a game to beat the lemonade out of anybody and with that joke of a WR core…I think the fudge not. But fear not NE Fan, you can cut the sleeves off one of your hoodies to soothe you in these hard times.

Had to modify some choice words for moderation…

  34. A Bucs Fan Says:

@Rod maybe not my house but I’m with you on this one.

All anyone has to do is watch the tape breaking down Chicagos offense from last week. It was dreadful in many ways. Contain Fields (who doesn’t throw down field to wide open receivers) and the game is over. Period.

  35. Rod Munch Says:

Last 3 games in Tampa, Bucs are 3-0 and have outscored the Bears 103-20.

This is as easy of a W as there is. If Bowles loses this, literally fire him.

  36. KC Buc Says:

But on the Davis front, at least it’s a game against a weak passing QB. If there’s a game to be down Davis & Izien and still feel confident, it’s probably this one.

  37. BoricuaBucFan Says:

Well, if he is gonna miss a game the Chicago game would be the one. Hopefully he can get on the field for Philly cause that’s when we are really gonna need him. Also I’m pretty sure Zyon is his replacement which is scary cause he is more of a special teams guy than a cover corner.

  38. Rod Munch Says:

Zyon has remarkable physical abilities, but is very much a work in progress, assuming he ever becomes anything. If he’s out there playing man-to-man, the Bucs are in huge trouble.

But no issues, last week the Bucs ran zone 85% of the time, and this week it will probably be more like 95%. That’s OK, however, since from listening to a bunch of Bears podcasts, Fields really struggles vs zone.

In any case the Bucs should, hopefully, get a few turnovers and a couple of TDs as they go on to win 38-10.

  39. Don’t tell me it’s raining Says:

Baker said he’s not Brady and I’m good with that. Brady was paid in the neighborhood of 30 million per year for his 3 seasons in TB. Bake is here this year for 4 million. That’s a pretty big difference in your budget. And like him or not, Baker is going to give you 100% of what he has to give.

    2020 Regular Season QBR
    #9 Tom Brady: 66.0
    #10 Baker Mayfield: 65.5

    2020 Postseason QBR
    #4 Tom Brady: 74.2
    #5 Baker Mayfield: 71.1

    2020 record TB12: 11-5
    2020 record Bake: 11-5

  40. orlbucfan Says:

Oh, so troll NE Fan is back. What’s the problem? Pats’ boards banning him? Oh, and Vikings were 13-4 last year. Guess that automatically assigns them to cupcake status this year. Jerk.

  41. BucsFanSince76 Says:

    Next man up-just win baby.

  42. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

NEfan on our Bucs site. Get a life dude. You’re embarrassing yourself.

  43. pewter941 Says:

We need Davis and Kancey more for the Eagles than we do the Bears.

  44. Infomeplease Says:

Next man up! Get it done!

  45. Biff Barker Says:

Turf toe can speciously affect performance.

I wish the Carl Nicks image would get out of my dome.

  46. Cobraboy Says:

If there is a game with missing DB parts, this is it.

Fortunately, there is decent DL depth.

  47. Hodad Says:

Won’t see him till after the bye week. It’s not just us with the injuries, it’s the whole league. Davis isn’t the only DB in the NFL already losing time to injury. Philly last night had guys out, and the Vikes were missing 3 O line starters. We’re actually in pretty good shape for now.

  48. fishhawkbuc Says:

Inject the toe before game. Kancey will be a bust

  49. Beej Says:

Fortunately Fields has a skill level similar to Parnell Dickinson

  50. Miller5252 Says:

If the Bucs have a good year here I can see them cutting Davis next year for money reasons. If you have to do David, White, Windfield, Wirfs, baker and Evans an always hurt Davis could be the odd man out since he’s always hurt. Plus Dean is a better man corner.

  51. NE Fan Says:

Bucs record against the Bears 21-40 soon to be 21-41. Faker Mayfield and Blows will show their true colors.

  52. BucU Says:

NE Fan surely u have better things to do than post nonsense on another teams site. The Pat’s need your support. Bye now.

  53. Duane in Sanford Says:

I love the secondary we have, but paying premium when you dont have a pass rush, franchise qb, run game, or consistent oline is a luxury this franchise cannot afford. Davis is a really tough break. Hoping Zyon plays well.

  54. Drunkinybor Says:

The Davis bashing is absolutely hilarious. Dude is a very very very good corner and deserves what he’s being payed.

  55. Leopold Stotch Says:

Of all games to have our CB1 miss, at least it’s against Da Bears. Fields just hasn’t unlocked his NFL potential yet as a passer. So I’m not too worried.

  56. BucsFan81 Says:

Davis is always injured. Who are the backups cause I think they only carried 5 CB on the active roster.

  57. #99 the big fella Says:

NE Fan , you said when Brady left you would leave as well.. the bucs will be 2-0 this week and patriots will be 0-2 your so confused you don’t know who to root for..that’s ok you truly have shown your true colors.. a real troll..I bet you are even on the raiders fan site and the girly basketball team Tom owns as well.careful Tom only likes females you are on the wrong side of the fence.

  58. Crickett Baker Says:

I thought Green Bay played very well and perhaps made the Bears look worse than they are. We need to “weight up”.

  59. Kansas95Bucs Says:

    Gotta start using grass fields

  60. BucU Says:

Both Pitt boys out as well. Pretty lame start for Kancey. Dudes been out for a month now? I’m not impressed.

  61. Woodenman Says:

What 2 offensive starters are we down ? Marine Buc?

  62. Woodenman Says:

Munch there are no easy wins for bucs if bucs lose we should fire you from this sight.

  63. adam from ny Says:

having that 3rd corner in the mix is vital with CD3 missing games often…

no SMB in the mix makes things a little more shaky…

hopefully Z-mac can slide in smoothly as SMB’s replacement

  64. garro Says:

    Son of a %$#@

Next man up. Go get em Delaney!

    Go Bucs!

    Jensen and Gage

  66. FrontFour Says:

    NFL needs to ban turf.

  67. Buccos Says:

I would take Mayfield or Trask over Mac Jones and Bowles over Belicheck at this stage of their careers

  68. Buccos Says:

New England sucks a big one. No wonder their loser Massholes are jumping onto our site

  69. Kidfloflo Says:

Kancey will be a bust after like 3 NFL snaps!?? Man Fishhawkbuc when is ur next motivational speech being held? Cause I want a tix

  70. NE Fan Says:

Bucco, when Belichick played against the Bowels Jets he would give his team the week off before he b@$ch slapped them. Bowels won’t even make the Bucs stupid HOF or whatever they call it. Belichick is a first round walk in. The Bucs are a more talented team unfortunately not as discipline or coached so they would be embarrassed by the inferior team like they were time and time again last season.

  71. Mike C Says:

    What’s Bill’s record without Brady?

  72. NE Fan Says:

Mike C. Stupid question. Belichick helped develop Brady. Do you really think Brady would have had the same success playing 20 yrs for Tampa. He’d probably be in a wheel chair drinking his soup through a straw.
