Trey Palmer Says Sauce Gardner Was Nameless And Faceless

August 17th, 2023

Rookie receiver Trey Palmer with Todd Bowles.

The Bucs’ emerging rookie receiver is his own man.

Trey Palmer was snagged by the Bucs in Round 6 of the NFL Draft and he had his look-at-me-Bucs-fans moment in the preseason opener against the Steelers. Then came yesterday, Palmer caught a bomb in practice from Kyle Trask as he beat Jets All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner 1-on-1. The Bucs put the highlight on their website and social media, and Palmer earned a lot of new fans.

Today after practice in New Jersey, Palmer would not send any love to Gardner.

Palmer said his confidence wasn’t boosted and he doesn’t pay attention to opponents’ accomplishments. Joe asked Palmer if he was an NFL fan in college and was about to ask Palmer if he knew who Gardner was, and Palmer cut off Joe.

“I was a baseball player, so I didn’t really pay attention to all that,” Palmer said.

Palmer added that he didn’t know who Gardner was yesterday. “Nah, no name, no face. That’s what I always go by,” he said.

As for a shot of confidence from another good showing, “I always have my confidence. I’ve been doing that since I was in high school,” Palmer said, adding that he plays his technique and it’s always gotten the job done for him.

Joe loves the ‘tude on Palmer. Not cocky, but not a whiff of starstruck.

Trey Palmer had as many rec and yards as the next top four receivers on NE. He had a 237 yard game against Purdue. He runs a 4.33.

How does this guy last until the 6th round?

Licht Haters … the guys that routinely throw shade on Licht’s draft picks … How you feeling about Trey?

  8. Proudbucsfan Says:

I think he’s going to be our Antonio Brown, minus the mental problems. Super star emerging

  9. chark Says:

easy rook! you got a long way to go..and you will soon learn you want to know anything and everything about your opponent. Palmer has god given talent but he needs to work on his routes and breaking in and out of them

  10. BUCS4LIFE Says:

The Bucs lucked out by landing Palmer in the 6th round. The only reason he was drafted so low was that he was stuck at Nebraska after being stuck behind a log jam of high end talent at LSU. If Palmer was able to show his true ability with a bonafide premier football program in the SEC or Big 12, he probably would have been drafted much higher and the Bucs would have missed out on him. Looks like Licht found a diamond in the rough! Its needed too after the horrible injury to Russell Gage.

  21. Buccos Says:

Gage’s career is in jeopardy but it is next man up. Gage never became that binaries number 3 that we have been searching for. Hopefully he makes it back but Palmer could have a much greater impact

  22. garro Says:

Where are they lining Palmer up?

    Outside? Slot? All over?

  23. kyle Says:
