Shaq Barrett And His Projected Sack Total

August 22nd, 2023

Sack totals for 2023.

The four-letter believes Shaq will be back, but not quite to his normal self.

Joe is still a bit worried about Bucs sacks king Shaq Barrett returning from a blown Achilles last October. Shaq told Joe recently he’s about 95 percent back but he will 100 percent start in Week 1 at Minnesota so long as he isn’t injured in some way.

Well, Seth Walder of BSPN, a guy who never met a number he didn’t like, ran a bunch of numbers and ranked his projected top-50 sackmeisters for the 2023 season.

Walder has Shaq coming in at No. 27 with 7.1 sacks projected.

That sacks total would be the fewest Shaq has had since signing with the Bucs in 2019, when he set the Bucs’ single-season sacks record with 19.5.

Since, Shaq has had eight and 10 sacks in 2020 and 2021. Last year in 2022, an injury-shortened season, Shaq had three sacks, his fewest since he was a Broncos backup.

Joe would say Shaq getting seven sacks in his first seas returning from a blown Achilles would be a successful season.

No other Bucs defender is in Walder’s top-50 for 2023 sacks.

Please mark this, Joe. And if this guy’s projections are FOS, call him out.

Shaq has heart. He’s a wonderful person. I am pulling for him to break Strahan’s fake news record.

If Shaq stays healthy, he’ll have 10 sacks…..looking for Nelson, JTA, Ya Ya & Devin White to contribute greatly.

  3. HC Grover Says:

I admire his grit and spunk. Go Shaq.

  4. Red Skeleton Says:

I predict 12 Sacks. If others provide any pressure like we hope, then he will get to more sacks. Simeon wouldn’t have been Simeon without Sapp’s pressure in the middle. Both got more production because they fed off of each other. Can’t have just outside pressure because QB’s can just step up. Can’t have just inside pressure because QB’s just Roll Out. We got Shaq, White, Vea and others that will hopefully cause havoc in the backfield. QB’s will be running for their live like old times.

Shaw and his family are an inspiration to all of us. He will rise back to the top due to his faith and perseverance. Go Shaq !

    13-15

  7. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

He is not a young man anymore and coming off a major injury.
IMHO, he will do good to have 9 sacks

  8. Dave Pear Says:

    Love our Shaq.

Love love love the Shaq attack.

  9. Usfbuc Says:

I would love for Shaq to put up 10 sacks and then get more production from anyone else on the defense. Send White on a blitz every play if it’s not a run

  10. The Beer Whisperer Says:

I’m kind of leery about Shaq’s achilles, also.

7 sacks might be a bit optimistic.

  11. D-Rok Says:

Since Shaq is reportedly “quicker” this year, I’d say if his Achilles holds up and barring any other injuries, 10 sacks would be a good year for him, and 14 would be phenomenal. I think around 6-8 is reasonable.

Besides, Shaq is the one with “moxie,” – sorry Mr. Bowles you named the wrong player a few months ago.

  12. Rod Munch Says:

Depends on how Bowles uses him. If Bowles continues his trend of playing more and more zone, and blitzing less and less, then 7 sounds about right.

  13. David Says:

They need him to be at 10+

Projected stat total? So what stats did he use to project stat totals for players who at this point have not taken a snap.

Geez that is some cornball stuff Joe.

    Go Bucs!
