“He Was Overlooked”

August 13th, 2023

Todd Bowles with rookie receiver Trey Palmer.

NFL head coaches don’t walk around campus in August calling rookies “a steal” in the draft.

That’s left for media, draft nerds and overhyped fans at training camp practices.

So Joe’s eyes popped today when Todd Bowles came very close to calling rookie sixth-round pick receiver Trey Palmer a steal.

“He got overlooked [in the draft] and I’m glad we got him,” Bowles said of the Nebraska speedster.

Palmer caught all four balls sent his way in Friday’s preseason opener, and he looked confident on a variety of routes. Of course, the highlight was his TD catch in the back of the end zone and A-list footwork to stay inbounds.

“The biggest thing was he flashed in the game,” Bowles said today.

“You can flash in practice because it’s kinda (throws hands in the air) you can’t touch most of the guys and they’re running free most of the time, but he flashed in a game and he flashed not just offense, but special teams as well. So that gave me a lot of confidence. And I look at him more and he’s a guy that’s very noticeable right now.”

This isn’t a quarterback post, but it’s interesting hearing Bowles say how receivers mostly are running free in practice because it’s not a real situation.

Speed kills and Palmer has a bunch of it.

If he wasn’t out of Nebraska he would of gone much higher in the draft.

So far he’s not Kenny Bell.

Was looking at the box store, not one receiver had more than one incompletion thrown his way

Looks like a good pick to me. He will be here after the collapse this year to help pick up the slack left by The Bowles Curse.

Hc Grover, you almost had something relevant to say.. then you screwed it up with your daily spew about Bowles

Palmer is very confident and that is promising for his NFL career.

WR room is looking great. Love the mix of vets and young guys. I hope they don’t go to waste bc of a sub par QB behind a crap line.

    @HC Grover,

I thought you made a pretty good point. Sure will be nice to have some solid pieces left if it doesn’t work out. Honestly, if Bowles doesn’t figure it out “one way or another this season” it would be best for all of us if he moves along.

It’s a Tough call to cut Bowles. He truly is a fantastic DC. But his style of running the whole show has so far had horrendous results. I don’t dislike him personally by any means. But I truly do fear the damage he can cause the team in the short, And long run.

I feel that it really does need to be “this year” that he either shines or cuts bait. We Can Not afford as an Organization or as a fan base to continue back down the “Den of Depression” path. We Just Can’t! Or at least I can’t. Honestly it would be for the best if he can actually do it. Find a way to take us to the (good) promised land. Our team has As Many questions as we do Solid Answers so it’s a Tall Hill to climb for him.

We might have more money to work with next year but my gut tells me that we won’t have the same high quality of players to work with. Jason Licht will be working Overtime to make miracles happen next year if Bowles blows it big this year…..

And Man he’s (Bowles) up against it. Even if he had great success in the past, with our troubles…, much less with a lets say spotty success rate up to this point… Wooof! I’m guessing there’s No Need to start listing them (problems) off.

And if he blows it, we’ll need a couple of priests, crosses, and a LOT of Holly Water to remove the curse. ALL While being docked “firmly” in the den of depression by the cove!

Let’s Hope For The Best. GO BUCS!

Unfortunately he also flashed some penalties. I am however impressed. He will improve on the penalties.

    Go Bucs!
