I’m telling you, watching Bakers tape from the last couple of years, he does that all the time on 3rd down. Passes up throwing for 1st downs, even if guys are open, to make easy dump offs that don’t get 1st downs. But hey, people who look at box scores see he completed 2 of 2 passes that drive.

Mayfield throwing 3 yard passes, and the defense playing super soft.
Bowles has successfully killed all of that aggressiveness that the Bucs played with in 2020, and now we got a Lovie Smith offense with a Mike Smith defense again.

I was not on the Trask bandwagon, never liked the picked, hated his first two preseasons as he didn’t throw the ball with any type of zip. But this year he’s now tossing cupcake rainbow passes, is throwing with NFL velocity, and the more he plays, the better he looks. I can’t believe they’re not developing him and going with Mayfield on a 1-year deal.

I do like what I’m seeing from the offense. I was actually tricked on one play on that drive when I thought for sure they’d run it up the middle, and they didn’t. That NEVER happened with Leftwich. I mean NEVER. Not once do I remember ever not knowing what Leftwich was running.

No, Trask needed to learn how to throw an NFL ball, which has not done until this preseason after changing his throwing motion this offseason. Credit to him however for getting that done. If he can throw with NFL velocity and not lose his accuracy, he should play for a long time.

Chase Edmonds had a big half season a couple of years ago, but hasn’t done anything since then. He is a 3rd down type of guy in my opinion. Vaughn is your generic up the middle back. I assume the Bucs keep 4 backs, so that will be Tucker. But Ronnie, I’d like to see him get early carries but I legit think they’re hiding him. He shall see.

White averaged 5.6ypc, looked good doing it. I hope they use him as a 3 down back, if they do, he should have a huge year. He has all the skills to be a star – I just hope he doesn’t think he’s a powerback. In college his agility and patience is what I loved – along with his hands, he catches the ball like a WR. He literally threw one pass out of those six passes more than 3 yards down the field. That’s what I don’t like. Also on the 1st series, on 3rd and 6, he throws a 2 yard pass. That’s what I don’t like, and that’s what you see on tape if you go back and watch his highlights from the last two years, and that’s why he’s ranked so lowly.
Trask came in, with the same group of players, minus Godwin, and looked a lot better, throwing downfield and moving the ball, he just looked a lot better.
Mayfield, for some reason, has a rep as a bit of a gunslinger, but he’s not, he’s a Captain Checkdown. Sure, it worked on one of his two series against the Ravens 2nd team defense, but we’ll see what he does in the regular season. History says he’ll be awful.
But he’s got the job, so all he has to do is play well and win and that will shut people up.

I will say this, that was actually a fun game to watch.
Most years, you can not say that about the last preseason game.
That preseason game against the Redskins in the last game, the Hard Knock year, where the Goat Farmer played and couldn’t throw the ball more than 5 yards downfield, that was probably the worst and most boring game I’ve ever seen.
