“We Can Compete In Any Division”

July 25th, 2023

Bucs GM Jason Licht.

The flag has been planted.

Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht likes the talent on his roster in a huge way. Yeah, Licht admitted today that it would have been nice to have spent money on a couple more veterans, but don’t confuse that with Licht being short of confidence.

Asked about making decisions this offseason, in part, because the NFC South is a weaker division, Licht wouldn’t bite. He said the Saints are always tough, the Falcons showed fire last season and made key moves, and it’s obvious what the Panthers did.

Licht also gushed about the 2023 draft class and said this year’s crop of undrafted free agents appears to be the best the Bucs have ever had.

Joe loves Licht’s confidence and it should send a message to fans and to Todd Bowles. “We can compete in any division,” Licht said.

The Bucs may not have all their established stars of the Tom Brady years, but they have enough play solid football. The record must reflect that.

  2. Da Bucs Guy Says:

Sad that Licht and Bowles are stuck with paying off bruce arians huge free agent bill.

  3. Another J Says:

We can compete in any division on the East coast.

  4. K2 Says:

Agree with Licht! Now that the Bucs have good coaching on both sides of the ball. I understand that Bowles has not had a good record as a head coach. However, he does an excellent job on defense and now we have a competent offensive coach…the future look brighter. Special teams coaching is still more of a question than the offensive side of the ball. Hopefully, we will see the benefits of more team speed lift the standings on teams.

  5. SufferingSince76 Says:

Well, we’ll see if that’s true fairly quickly.

  6. SB~LV Says:

    Ewww… compete
    Shiver me timbers

Da Bucs Guy — I dont know what that means but we won a super bowl. Idc about the cap and you shouldn’t either if you win which we did so it worked…. There remain teams that have never even won a super bowl how do you think they feel about their healthy caps and not winning?

  8. HC Grover Says:

    True but can they win?

  9. SlyPirate Says:

Start with a win in Minn and take it from there. I like this team, too.

  10. Infomeplease Says:

I like JL! He has a positive attitude! So does Dave Canales! Todd Bowles, not so much!! I believe Todd Bowles doesn’t believe in his team. Just sayin… When does he say positive things about the team, in general. On occasion he does call out some players. Not the team.

  11. westernbuc Says:

The expectation this year is to be competitive. Less than that and Bowles is gone

  12. Buc4evr Says:

Hope Jason is correct, but I can think of a lot teams that would destroy the Bucs. Nobody believes that our current pathetic quarterback situation allows the Bucs to compete with anyone but the very weakest teams. I would be very surprised if the Bucs were 4-0 going into the bye.

  13. JD Still Says:

Absolutely! Competitions and contests are won on the field , not in articles written by prognosticators! Can’t wait to see how they turn out ! Good Luck Buc’s!

  14. Orlando Kevin Says:

The only consistency at a high level on offense are our wide receivers. The offensive line has a lot of changes. The RB’s are trying to improve not by addition but subtraction. The tight ends may have promise but are young. Our QB may be playing at his last team with starting potential so on the hot seat. And we have a new coordinator calling plays.

I’m hoping for the best but the above is a lot of change and may take some time to gel. Would anyone be surprised if it took some time for them to get going?

  15. Mike Johnson Says:

Sure, we can compete..and lose. Wonder what kind of stuff Jason smokin these daze?

  16. Boltsfan17 Says:

Please, this team was awful for huge portions of last year and that was with Brady. The D is awful for starters. How quickly folks forget what an absolute s***show this team was.

  17. View from 132 Says:

I wish the NFL would realign the divisions again. It’s been 20 years. Mix it up. I’d trade out Carolina for Tennessee and New Orleans for Jacksonville. Carolina should be with New York, Washington and Philly and Dallas should move to the west. With the new name, the Dallas-Washington rivalry is over anyway.

  18. garro Says:

As a veteren of the 0-26 seasons, when we were not “competitive” I can say that I know what that looks like.

I agree with Jason that we will be competitive with any division. National media have dubbed the NFC South as the worst this year… Umm they have been known to be wrong at the end of seasons.

But competitive and winning are two different things.

    We shall see.

    LFG!

    Go Bucs!
