Are The Bucs Really Wearing “The Creamsicles” This Fall?

June 15th, 2023

These are the creamsicles.

Joe nearly had a stroke yesterday hearing Lavonte David discuss the return of the creamsicles.

The creamsicles are supposed to be throwback uniforms, the original orange with red trim, white pants with the orange stripe and white helmet like the Bucs wore in their first 21 years of existence.

The last time the Bucs wore the creamsicles was 2012, when David was a rookie. Those uniforms were nearly exact matches for the creamsicles the Bucs wore until 1997.

Yesterday, David seemed to indicate the Bucs won’t be wearing the traditional, glorious creamsicles, but something different.

“I got a little glimpse of them,” David said. “They’re not like the ones I wore in 2012 at all…

“You should be in for a surprise. They’re really nice and I definitely like the way they look.”

WHAT???!!! Is that why the Bucs had these things delayed a year because the Bucs and Nike — infamous for wrecking uniforms — were trying to come up with some scheme or pattern they think might be clever and cool and hip but in reality is a sh!tty slap-to-the-face of anyone with taste? You know, like those Jameis Winston alarm clock eyerakes?

Out of curiosity, Joe checked the Bucs’ Twitter feed and the graphics and videos the Bucs used all are images of the true creamsicles. So maybe David was pulling people’s legs yesterday?

The thought of butchering those beautiful uniforms makes Joe nauseous. Please Bucs, tell Joe this isn’t so! What a cruel, twisted tease this would be!

    There’s a reason they’re called throwbacks… don’t mess with ’em.

  2. Leopold Stotch Says:

I’ve been waiting for these darn unis to be released since 2 years ago! I knew they’d get an overhaul. They’ll be modernized of course. I’m surprised it’s taking this long to release images of them. Also a shame Brady didn’t get the opportunity to wear one of these.

  3. PewterStiffArm Says:

I mentioned this the other day, don’t mess with tradition. We have younger marketing teams that think they have to toss originality aside for their version of modern. Other throw backs around the league have stuck to their original versions, period. For whatever reason the Bucs mess with tradition, loyalty. They think a touch of modern goes a long way and it doesn’t. The picture you guys float around of Josh Freeman should be THE UNIFORM, period. I am very disappointed. Lavonte knows they will be looking like fools.

it’ completely wild the tb12 missed the wind of rockin’ the creamsicles…

a completely outstanding fugg up for sure…

we needed tb12 to be scrambling like his bad self, for a first down, donned in the orange…just once…just once…at least for nostalgia

  5. adam from ny Says:

you do not tamper with a uni like this……….you just don’t

  6. adam from ny Says:

definitely an early morning before coffee typo ^^^

it’s completely wild that tb12 missed the window of rockin’ the creamsicles…

  7. adam from ny Says:

i do want them to rock the all pewter color rush uni’s more…

i think last year they wore them once…or maybe not at all…???

what went wrong for them to not wear the bad azz all pewters?

  8. Buc Fan South Tampa Says:

I was at the 2012 throwback game. It was awesome, the entire stadium was decked out in orange/white. They even changed the sail on the pirate ship to Bucco Bruce. The music in the stadium was late70s…. Which you can’t go wrong with Funkadelics, Kansas, Parliament, Boston, Wild Cherry, Bee Gees, etc. Now have NFL Shop start selling some Throwback Jerseys with current players names instead of only Alstott. Not that there is anything wrong with that….

  9. garro Says:

This is just plain stupid. Do they not care about the folks who are long time fans with creamsicles in their closet?

  10. garro Says:

Stupid!!! is an understatemnet BTW! Stupid!!!

  11. garro Says:

They have had years …To many years to get this right…. and they on the verge of screwing it up!

  12. Jvato24 Says:

They are white on white, notice how many times they show it on the initial video with the old TV, book it, white on white and it will be awesome

  13. Lt. Dan Says:

As a show of my hard suffering Bucs life – I bought a creamsicle Steve Spurrier home jersey a few years back. The most frequent comment I get is….”Why?”.

  14. adam from ny Says:

i just saw the little video on the bucs website for the throwback game…

i still have the old school garbage can sitting next to the retro tv set in the video…

yeah mine is just as beat up as the one in the video, maybe even worse

  15. garro Says:

SACRILEGE! And a slap in the face to all those who sat in the Old Sombrero In the heat wearing their Creamsickle gear!

  16. LakelandSteve Says:

I may be one of the few old Bucs fans who didn’t really like the creamsicles all that well. Back when they were worn I wasn’t alone either. It seems like with a lot of things, with time they get better. It wasn’t necessarily that they were ugly, it’s just all the losing that went with them. I hope they win when they wear them, if not I probably won’t be alone in my distaste for them.

  17. Dooley Says:

“It wasn’t necessarily that they were ugly, it’s just all the losing that went with them. I hope they win when they wear them, if not I probably won’t be alone in my distaste for them.”

I share this exact same sentiment. Nostalgia is cool and all, but some of it is tied to bad memories and losing games. My dad still calls me a “Yucs” fan, as he’s been a Steeler fan all his life. Which just means I’ve taken lots of ribbing from he and my brothers over the years.

  18. BucsFanSince76 Says:

Bucs can never leave well enough alone , just like the horrid and epic fail digimon rubbish uni when the ones we won our first SB with were great.

  19. Duane Says:

There’s a reason they’re called “throwbacks” – it’s because they need to be thrown back in the trash and never see the light of day again.

Virtually all of the throwbacks by the various NFL teams are simply butt ugly. There were very good reasons why they were thrown back.

  20. HC Grover Says:

Perfect for this season. Memory lane. it will seem just like old times.

  21. Allbuccedup Says:

Creamsicles uniforms reminds me of multiple losing seasons so maybe its fitting they bring them back under Bowles.

  22. Adam’s Angry Says:

    Couple of possibilities:

1️⃣ They’re wearing the 1976 Spurrier era white-on-white uniform with the ORANGE numbers and red trim (see Sports Illustrated Aug 23, 1976)

2️⃣ They’re wearing the Dilfer Era White Jersey, red numbers, shiny orange pants.

3️⃣ They’re the same color scheme as 2012, the jersey is just cut different.

⭐️ I would not put it past Nike to screw this up. This is the company that designed the Women’s National Soccer Team Championship t-shirts and put NO red, white, and blue on it.

  23. adam from ny Says:

i can’t see them eliminating the color orange and going all white on white…

    to vanilla and boring…

and it totally misses the mark, which is to rock the orange color…

i’m guessing white jersey and orange pants…

and then it’s good for marketing and sales…so diehard bucs fan can get a throwback white jersey to have as well

  24. De Says:

The Winston era jerseys were so ugly

  25. gp Says:

    For several reasons…..
I wish the NFL would break with nike.

  26. buc20 Says:

Joe if it looks like that, it’s way better than the winking pirate

  27. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Maybe they are the old original florida orange ones, they were nice

  28. Rayjay1122 Says:

Let me guess, Creamcicle orange and white with red trim and digital alarm clock numbers.

  29. Colonel Angus Says:

The all whites will be awesome. Too bad it won’t be a snow game!

  30. sasquatch Says:

I preferred the white jersey with orange pants. Maybe that’s what we’ll see.

  31. sasquatch Says:

stop the moderation… this is getting ridiculous.

  32. Onetrickpony Says:

it don’t matter what color, that helmet with that stupid Bruce will kill it all

  33. Duane Says:

I hope they didnt change it. I need to get a new one because unfortunately mine says Freeman on it. Fun times.

  34. westernbuc Says:

Hopefully the glazers had nothing to do with the design

  35. View from 132 Says:

The worst uniforms in NFL history are the Jameis Alarm Clocks AND the original Bucs uniforms. The winking Disney pirate is terrible. They have solid uniforms now and won two Super Bowls in them… why are we “throwing it back” to ugly?

  36. Evan Nishimura Says:

I think they are using a bolder creamsicle color for jersey, I believe those were used in 76-77? I assume the jersey looks bolder in color and that’s what LD noticed.

  37. Paul Keyes Says:

I think he was referring to the cut of the jerseys not any particular style changes. Meaning they were going to be a lot more formfitting, which is exactly what White had said about them.

  38. garro Says:

Funny I want the creamcicle Orange Jerseys because I sat in the Sombrero for 0-26 in Orange. I sat in the rain in 79 whan Ricky Bell, Leroy Selmon and Doug Williams clinched the Bucs first NFC Central title against KC.

I want the creamsicles because of the losing and because of the winning that I savored more because of the losing.

    Go Bucs!

  39. Bubby Says:

I think we saw the new version of the throwback during this years draft. It was a scarier version of Bucco with a skull and more of a black backdrop. Anyone else see that?
