Mike Evans 10.0

May 7th, 2023

Bucs receivers make Mike Evans smile.

What do legendary pass catchers like Hines Ward, Antonio Brown, Calvin Johnson, Brandon Marshall, Paul Warfield, Mark Clayton, Irving Fryar, Tommy McDonald, Andre Rison, Anquan Boldin, Reggie Wayne, Don Maynard, Andre Reed, Lance Alworth and Jimmy Graham have in common?

Those are all guys Bucs receiver Mike Evans can pass on the NFL’s all-time career touchdown receptions list, if Evans were to have 10 touchdowns during the 2023 season, his 10th in the NFL.

That’s why Joe laughs when some say Evans isn’t driving in the fast lane to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Much is made of Evans being the only man in human history to have 1,000 or more receiving yards in his first nine NFL seasons. But Joe is almost more impressed by Evans averaging nine touchdowns per year throughout his career.

Joe would love to see Evans clock 11 touchdowns this season. That would tie him with Rob Gronkowski at 92 career touchdowns. Gronk needed 11 seasons — with the greatest quarterback in NFL history throwing him the football.

Evans hasn’t had that luxury.

LOVE the nod to Tommy McDonald. Not many folks have heard of him I expect. My Dad encouraged me the read his autobiography back in the day. What a small tough SOB! Props Joes.!

  2. Geno711 Says:

The fans that value Godwin more, I just don’t understand. ME gets the TDs. That is the name of the game to score.

  3. Curse of Gruden Says:

Yes, ME can find the end zone.

  4. BucsFan81 Says:

Evans is already HOF material and deserves to someday be in the ring of honor also. Best WR in bucs history and the numbers prove it.

  5. Crickett Baker Says:

I DARE someone to say something negative about Mike that is a fact. He is a wonderful player and person.

  6. Beej Says:

I had Madden ’21, Brady to ME13 should have been illegal. Guy came down with everything you heaved his way

  7. AtlBuc Says:

Why compare ME and CG when we have them both on the team? Some people just have too much time on their hands!! 😕

  8. TOMMY MORDUE Says:

IF THE QUARTERBACK PLAY IS UP TO PAR, MIKE WILL GET THOSE 11 TOUCHDOWNS & ALSO HIS EXPANDING RECORD OF 10 CONSECUTIVE 1,OOO YD RECIEVING SEASONS..NO DOUBT IN MY MIND..HE HAS PROVEN YEAR AFTER YEAR TO BE GREATEST RECIEVER THE BUCCANEERS HAVE EVER HAD ( WITH CHRIS GODWIN CURRENTLY 2ND BEST ) I HAVE A GOOD FEELING ABOUT TREY PALMER & RUSSELL GAGE THIS YEAR AS WELL..BOTH OFFENSE & DEFENSE WILL SHOCK THE NFL THIS YEAR, WINNING THE DIVISION & ONCE AGAIN MAKING THE PLAYOFFS..WE WANT A VETERAN QUARTERBACK TO ADD TO THE ROSTER FOR MENTORING RIGHT ? WHO IS THE ONLY ACTIVE QB TO HAVE BEATEN THE GOAT “TOM BRADY” IN THE SUPER BOWL ?..THAT’S RIGHT, “NICK FOLES” WHOM THE COLTS JUST RELEASED..LET’S GET HIM FOR THAT 3RD QUARTERBACK TO AT LEAST HELP US THROUGH THE SEASON..I HONESTLY CAN’T THINK OF A BETTER AVAILABLE QB TO TAKE ON THAT ROLE..GO GET HIM SIGNED JASON LIGHT !

  9. Kenny Says:

Who says Evans isnt on track for the hall? I feel like that is something only JBF says.

Evans, if he has 3 more decent seasons, which is extremely likely, is a clear first ballot hall of famer.

He probably has like 5 years left…. Hes going to be top 10 in every single category.

The only person posting on the internet that Evans isnt a hall of famer is you guys….

  10. TOMMY MORDUE Says:

    AND WHILE I’M ON HERE..
JASON LIGHT, PLEASE LOOK INTO WHAT IT WOULD TAKE TO GET AUSTIN ECKLER TO JOIN RASHAD WHITE IN OUR BACKFIELD THIS YEAR, HE’S VIRTUALLY UNSTOPPABLE INSIDE THE FIVE YARD LINE & IS DEFINITELY (EVEN AT 30 YRS OLD ) WORTH CHECKING OUT..WE DO WANT A SOLID RUNNING GAME THIS YEAR.,RIGHT ?..THIS MAN IS JUST WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED…

  11. Mike C Says:

TOMMY, YOUR CAP BUTTON IS STUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Cobraboy Says:

Lt. Dan, Tommy McDonald was tougher than woodpecker lips.

He never wore a facemask. Not even a bar.

  13. Old Sombrero Says:

Great story! Gotta pull for the guy. He puts it all out there.

  14. Usfbuc Says:

ME isn’t just the best WR we have ever had he is one of the best Bucs players regardless of position. Guy has just quietly gone about a HoF career without needing to be in the spotlight.

  15. DoooshLaRue Says:

Mike is morning into a modern day Whitman Mayo.

  16. Wood1982 Says:

Mike is about to pass my guy, Paul Warfield. My favorite player of all-time. If You factor Warfield’s numbers to this modern day passing game, he’d have 1000 catches, 20,000 yds and 170 TDs…but, I digress. Congrats in advance, Mike. Go Bucs!!!

    ____________

He frequently whines like a lil biotch.

    #FACT

  19. Ugotrobbed Says:

If ME played for any other team besides TB, and had the same stats, his name would be a household name! Tampa has always been treated like a red headed (no offence to red heads) step child.

  20. Tiny Dungy Says:

Love the shout out to Grady, DLaRue!

  21. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Tiny Dungy
    😃

  22. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

If obj had ME numbers obj would have been in the pro bowl 10 years runnin.
You see Mike is old school.
He’s proven to be all action and few words.
These days it seems one must be all words and no action to get noticed by the nfl pundits.

ME leaves a lot of YAC on the field. Sorry. He’s an HOFer, though.

  24. Buccos Says:

Love me some ME13! He has been a stud number 1 receiver since day 1. The moment he stepped on the field. And Brady wouldn’t have come to Tampa if not for Evans being here. Therefore no 2nd Super Bowl. Probably Lichts best draft pick of his career . A sure fire first ballot HOF receiver. Thank you God and ME13

  25. Tackleblockwin Says:

Who in the heck thinks Evans isn’t a Hall of Famer? I’d laugh at those people too, Joes.

  26. 1#bucsfan Says:

Just from a stats stand point. He’s deff one of the best WR to ever play the game. Dude has never had a season under a 1000 yards. No other WR has ever done it. Deff Lichts best pick sorry Wirfs you’re great but you’re no ME13. He’s bin putting up those numbers before wirf was even in college. Not just greatest to ever play for the Bucs but greatest to play WR. 1st ballot hands down. And he takes shots at the saints. Can’t get any better

  27. TampabayDJ Says:

Funny you bring this up Joe. I’ve been arguing with a stinking steelers fan about how great Mike Evans is. This guy just can’t seem to grasp the things that Evans has done with much lesser QBs for most of his career until he had Brady for 3 years. But he’s still ahead of most WRs and if not then they played a few more seasons than Evans.. Go Bucs

  28. DoooshLaRue Says:

Not dissing ME13, but 1000 yards receiving isn’t that big of an accomplishment anymore.

Check the stats, 26 WRs in 2021 over 1k, 21 over in 2022.
Compare that to RBs over 1000 yards.
7 last season, and all of those yards are earned.

Sorry, but 58.8 ypg receiving isn’t really that much.

1000 yard receivers were a bigger deal with a 14 game season in a run dominated league.
I really feel like 1500 yards should be the new measuring stick for WRs.

  29. Aceofaerospace Says:

I would bet my farm that Mike Evans is a first ballot Hall of Famer. No doubt.

  30. Lakeland Steve Says:

Doosh, what a douche. Has anyone ever started there career with 9 straight 1,000 yard seasons? The only person in NFL history is Mike Evans. This year would make 10 straight. If it was so damn easy why hasn’t anyone else done it Douche?

  31. PauleyD Says:

Kenny what are you even talking about? Joe is definitely saying that Mike is a Hall of famer reread the article

  32. PauleyD Says:

    @Doooosh
But those players haven’t done it 10 years in a row
    THATS what’s special about ME

  33. Duane Says:

Imagine if they would just feed this guy the ball more often…

  34. Mike S Says:

Mike has 10.4K career yards. Not first ballot HOF yet. 14.4K puts him in the top ten all time. He’s got a lot of juice left – 2 more 1000 yards seasons seems very reasonable. What happens over the next 3-4 seasons for him will dictate his legacy.

  35. BA’s Red Pen Says:

    HOF

  36. Capt.Tim Says:

Fantastic WR. One of the best ALL TIME.

    __________

True, but don’t forget JayMiss went against his HC and got Mike his yards to keep that streak alive at 1001 yards.

    If JayMiss did his job………

  38. optimisticbucsfan Says:

There’s THREE wide receivers in the top 11 NOT in the HOF.

SMDH. This a blind spot for Tampa fans.

  39. DoooshLaRue Says:

    And it’s 9 years PauleyD, not 10.

  40. Peskajumba Says:

How the F did we have Tom Brady?
How is that an actual thing that happened?
And, now, that’s over. I knew Romo didn’t know what he was talking about when he said, at the end of the SB, that the culture had been changed forever, but I did think there would be a little bit of a come down. Not an immediate drop back to what we were. But, no, we took a perfectly acceptable defensive coordinator and turned ourselves into the Jets with him.

  42. unbelievable Says:

DouchebagLaRue- now do the 7 seasons before that, when he also went over 1,000 yards each time.

    And he’s a touchdown machine.

    And NOT a diva.

  43. garro Says:

    Thanks Joe
That puts a few things into perspective for me.

Evans truly is a HOF candidate and when you add in that he did a lot of damage on some truly awful teams… well it speaks for itself.

  44. adam from ny Says:

imagine he plays 15 seasons and has 1,000 yards every single year…

    how great would that be………..

    yes we can imagine

  45. Bojim Says:

I hate all caps. Learn to use the shift key. It’s actually pretty easy.

  46. CrackWise Says:

    @Bojim
I just skip right past those all-caps post. It’s a sign of TRUE ignorance and nothing you say will prevent them from doing it. It’s like they think all caps is a special way of writing and somehow makes a point “bigger”.

Im sure there might be a point or two in there worth my time to read. BUT why waste your time with an ignorant comment from the jump.

To each there own. thats why I just breeze right by those post. As I am sure most do.

  47. The Big Sombrero Says:

    @CrackWise…

Before you go taking a dig at someone for using all CAPS, maybe you should learn how to spell and use correct grammar.

    To each their own.

  48. Rod Munch Says:

JOE – “Gronk needed 11 seasons — with the greatest quarterback in NFL history throwing him the football. Evans hasn’t had that luxury.”

    ————

Actually, Evans did his best work with Winston, because Winston was unafraid to throw the ball to Evans regardless of coverage, and let Evans make insane plays to get the ball. That’s what made Evans famous and a future HOFer. Brady, however, was a lot more conservative with throwing balls up for grabs, which is something I wish he had done more of. But obviously Brady is the GOAT, so you’re not going to question his decision making, but I always wish he would have, in 1-on-1 situations, just given Mike more chances to make plays and show off what makes him so special. This year we’ll see what they do, but I think Mayfield is going to be told to be ultra conservative, which will be a complete disaster, and could take down Evans as well if Todd Bowles is wanting a 3-yards and a cloud of dust offense.

  49. optimisticbucsfan Says:

    He’s not in right now.

ANd that isn’t even a discussion.

He probably needs at least 5k more yards

It’s the people behind him that will surpass his numbers he has to worry about.

It’s a passing league and you will see WRs blow past him.

Like I said…3 of the top 11 WRs are NOT IN THE HOF

  50. JBBucs_06 Says:

Let’s Go ME13, greatest Buc pass catcher ever!! Hands down 1st ballot HoFer! Class act on/off the field. Except when playing the Saints, and I don’t blame him for that.

  51. Herbiebuc Says:

I THINK ALL BUCS FANS CAN AGREE
DONT SAY NUN NEGATIVE ABOUT ABOUT
    ME13!
