Logan Hall Bulks Up To 296 Pounds

May 3rd, 2023

Logan Hall

Back in January, head coach Todd Bowles described defensive tackle Logan Hall as a “hot and cold” performer in need of the weight room after his rookie season.

Hall rolled at about 285 pounds last season and, per his position coach Kacy Rodgers at One Buc Palace this afternoon, Hall is checking in at 296 pounds and he probably isn’t finished adding quality meat to his 6-6 frame.

Rodgers acknowledged that Hall may fill the Will Gholston on the defensive line this season with his similar body type to the 10-year Bucs veteran that remains a free agent.

Joe likes hearing the optimism around Hall, though Joe can’t say with certainty the Bucs will be better off trading Hall for Gholston. But Joe does like how the Bucs defensive front got younger this offseason with rookie DT Calijah Kancey and seasoned veteran Greg Gaines, who turns 27 this week.

Rodgers added that he should have played Hall more last season but too often chose veterans over the rookie.

I think he will show big improvement this year, rookies typically don’t do much

  2. Just Leave Trask Alone Says:

Muscle or hanging out at the buffet?

  3. Mike Says:

Good to see him add weight. Should help him get on the field more.

  4. Smashsquatch Says:

Can’t have too many capable sets of fresh legs on the d-line. It’s especially important considering how much Bowles likes to rotate up front. We need Hall to make a leap this year. The D line has promise, and needs to be our strength this year; otherwise Bowles walks the plank.

  5. Cobraboy Says:

Casual Buc fans expect waaaay too much from rookies.

  6. Buc4evr Says:

Great let’s see how it translates at game time in the 4th quarter. I’d still re-sign Gholston for insurance.

  7. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Hope he added some strength to go with the extra weight ?

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Wed need some production from Hall & JTS……

  9. Dooley Says:

Interesting, because there are some photos up on the team site of the offseason workouts, and there’s a picture of Logan Hall from the neck up and based off that you’d think he slimmed down, so he’s doing something in between meals and it’s likely more lifting. Should be a better 2nd year for Hall, can’t wait to hear the first reactions of him once camp starts.

Coach Rodgers said Hall and a few other DLmen will probably get more time taking reps at their respective positions to let them get a feel for it before they start doing the musical chairs like they’ve done in the past. Doesn’t mean the rotations will be limited, just that certain players will have more opportunity at 1 spot to carve out their nich.

  10. Mike C Says:

Hope he was humbled last year and plans to work, guy was talking alot of smack coming out of college.

  11. CrackWise Says:

    Tampa, We Got BEEF!

The more you think about this current roster, the more you can see it has truly been “retooled” and not “rebuilt”.

Got give props to the Coaching Staff and Front office. I don’t see how we are not at least a 500 team at this point.

  12. BucU Says:

He and JTS had better step it up or they could find themselves out of a job.

  13. DRFEELGOOD Says:

    @CrackWise

Agreed. If we stay relatively healthy, I don’t see the dumpster fire that alot of fans on this site and National media see. I see a faster younger team with a QB that is not so afraid to get hit. LOVE Brady and thank him for EVERYTHING he brought. But he was a deer in the headlights all season last year.

  14. Geno711 Says:

I always want to (unfairly) compare Logan Hall to Calais Campbell. Huge defensive lineman that sometimes plays inside and sometimes plays outside.

Just mentioning that there are a lot of good and great defensive lineman who were not impressive their 1st season in the NFL. That includes Calais Campbell.

  15. Rod Munch Says:

Good to hear since his frame should allow him to put on a ton of muscle.

He’s very much a project player, just like JTS, and both have plenty of ability that hasn’t been tapped yet.

But I think those two picks is why Licht went the other direction in this draft, getting proven guys, who played a lot of downs and still had high RAS scores.

  16. Andrew Fish Says:

Would love to see the bucs bring back Gholston for depth. Guys a great pro and always available.

  17. CrackWise Says:

    Calais Campbell!!!!!!!!!

Wouldn’t that be something next to “MT” Vea, “Capital” Gains and the rook “The Predator” Kancey!!!

    Call Hall, “Wolverine”?

  18. AKicknTheBucNuts Says:

    I don’t know.

His head looks like a nuclear explosion.

Hopefully, he can be that on the field.

  19. CrackWise Says:

FYI, “The Predator” is a reference to the movie, when the Predator said, “Want some Candy” just before destroying everyone. LOL

  20. sasquatch Says:

I’ve never understood the hostility and impatience towards rookies like I see on JBF. I fully expect Hall to show up as a valuable piece in the DL rotation this year. He also gives us a lot more pass rush potential than Gholston.

  21. Capt.Tim Says:

Teams ALWAYS gush over their top picks! ALWAYS.
You’never hear a GM say”whw, we blew that pick! That kid sucks!! BUST!”
Last year, Logan Hall was invisible. Too slow for DE, too weak for DT.

That said, Im glad he bulked up. Hard to get faster, but you can stronger.
Hopefully- he’ll find a way to be useful.

  22. Pewter Power Says:

Makes all the sense in the world to me. We all knew he needed to bulk up and Bucs nation has screaming he is the replacement for WG. So weird it takes so long for this staff to make obvious decisions

  23. Redeemer Says:

Always like to see a player get on the “program” just reality in the NFL. The O lineman are monsters in this league. Unless you adapt, wash out. I didn’t like the pick then. Hope the kid proves me wrong. The d lineman have a very specific role on this team.

  24. Biff Barker Says:

This guy is a Bum. I cant think of one single reason to keep him.

JTS is another Bum. But he goes nowhere fast though.

  25. SlyPirate Says:

EXACTLY WHAT HE NEEDED TO DO

This year, Hall simply needs to hold the line against the run, get some push in the pass, and basically occupy enough OL so the OLB and LB can attack the ball.

With his frame, he can still be mobile at 300 lbs.

  26. MadMax Says:

Rookie wall over….I promoted you on here Hall….time to get busy bro and the weight and strength gain is a good start….

  27. HC Grover Says:

What is that on his head? Looks like a coral reef.

  28. Hodad Says:

Joe can’t say the Bucs will be better off with Hall replacing Gholston, but Hodad will. Hall is much faster, and a better athlete than Gholston. Hall is still very young. He needed to and weight, and strengh, hopefully he did. Hall will play way better than Will could this year.

  29. Biff Barker Says:

Hodad, put the glass pipe down and slowly back away. Hall sucks.

  30. Geno711 Says:

    Hodad,

I am with you. Not sure what Biff is smoking.

  31. gotbbucs Says:

They sacrificed development the last two years for the sake of letting Tommy have his old veteran team.

  32. ABucAway Says:

From get with The Program, to got with The Program. Let’s see him at 300 by game 1. Should be doable

  33. Pryda…sec147 Says:

10 lbs of muscle I love to hear it

  34. Eckwood Says:

Joe Thanks for the Great site and Job that you Do but let’s get a lil more real/ direct . You can do it softly !! Here it is unsoft , Is he 20 percent stronger or not !! Cut it with fake protect the athlete BS , sideways journalism. Don’t be ridculous. Joe doesn’t care about what Hall is putting up in the weight room, especially in highly controlled surroundings on a set schedule. That’s not football. It’s nice if he’s stronger, but most second-year players are. How it translates into pads on snap No. 8 of a long drive when he’s double-teamed is what matters. And no coach will have that answer. So why would Joe ask?

If he is great , if he’s not the Bucs have a Strength Coach issue and a head coach and GM issue !! As I’ve always said Hall can play !! ,, he needs to get his body and mind out of Highschool and College …… He Has a Man Job and His position coach, strength coach and head coach have got to quit treating these Men like boys ……….. . We will see if Prime Time Survives Colorado but he clearly knows the biggest problem with what he has witnessed over the years . Get Better or Get Out ,,, But Help them get better ,,,, Bills, Investing, shopping, maid service , bills / taxes it’s all part of the mental breakdown from College to Man Job !!! Be The Best Organization !! That’s what Pro Head Coaching and GM ing is About …… Tom came in and took over many of those lacking rolls , Now let’s Hope the GM and Coach learned something !!! And Joe You ask the Questions , not well he gained weight journalism !!! Go Bucs !!! Perhaps , In what area has Logan s strength seen an increase ?? The answer will answer so many unasked questions !!

  35. DJB Says:

Just keep Hall away from Jensen. . .

  36. TonySoprano Says:

Yeah but 8 of those 12 pounds he gained was hair

  37. PNW Buc Says:

DT rotation this year is going to be a strong position group: Vita, Logan, Gaines and the rookie!
    Very excited!

  38. View from 132 Says:

How much does he weigh bald?

  39. Goatfarmer Says:

Who bulked up? Logan Who? Logan somebody? I’m not sure he’s on a team.

  40. sasquatch Says:

If I were taking a guess, I’d swear some of the commenters were meth tweakers. Disjointed, disconnected, random, delusional, seemingly compulsive. Or maybe they’re just coming off meds with proper psychiatric care.

  41. sasquatch Says:

    * without proper psychiatric care.

  42. Destinjohnny Says:

    Another blown draft pic
    It’s physics man.
This guys natural weight is 270 which is a big dude
But not big enough to play inside in the league.
Jason this is basic stuff, how do u keep making these same mistakes?

  43. Capt.Tim Says:

    TonySoprano,
    Lmao!!

  44. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“Rodgers added that he should have played Hall more last season but too often chose veterans over the rookie.”

same thing happened to Trask, no matter how much some people here try to deny it.

  45. garro Says:

I think Hall is a lot closer to his potential than I thought after looking at his stats and snap counts. The added weight should help him. Particularly if he can maintain his athleticism.
