Kay Adams Wants To Know Who Is In Charge Of The Bucs

May 12th, 2023

Big year for Baker Mayfield?

If Kay Adams is looking for you, why hide?

The former it-girl of NFL Network is now the face of FanDuelTv with Pat McAfee apparently bolting.

So Adams, host of “Up and Adams” weekday mornings, chatted about the Bucs yesterday. Her big question is, who is running the show?

“No Tom Brady,” Adams began. “No [Leonard] Fournette. Devin White demanding a trade. Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, they are coming off tough years. And they have a new offensive coordinator.

“This team could be completely unrecognizable.”

Adams seemed to be asking who the Bucs can count on to take charge (how can you ask a guy like White to rally the troops if doesn’t want to be here?).

The answer, Adams thinks, may be quarterback Baker Mayfield. She thinks that’s very possible since new Bucs offensive coordinator Dave Canales had a hand in resurrecting Geno Smith’s career in Seattle.

It may be the year of the comebacks for the Bucs, Adams said. The creamsicles are coming back and so too may be Mayfield.

Joe will make it simple. If Mayfield is the Comeback Player of the Year, the Bucs are in the playoffs. That’s all there is to it.

It sounds a bit like a pity F but I’ll take it.

  2. HC Grover Says:

    Soon…Bucs will win Super Bowl….

  3. Duane Says:

Evans and Godwin are both coming off tough years? WTF team has this gal been watching. Both of them had typically high production years, over 1,000 yards for each of them. Considering that Brady rarely threw down the field because he was running for his life due to an incompetent offensive line, throwing the ball within record time after snap … for both of them to get over 1,000 was quite an accomplishment. A lot of teams would be pleased to have one receiver over 1,000 yards a season.

    The “Family “
    Decisions by PC committee

  5. HA-HA-HA Says:

Committee decisions are a way to pass around the blame for failure. Nobody is accountable.

  6. Brandon Says:

Brady worshippers won’t understand this but he was a huge part of the reason for the lousy offense last season. He’s gone and the worst offense in the league will be improved this season. Addition by subtraction. Even if the offense is average, despite having Evans and Godwin, this will be a better team on both sides of the ball.

  7. buccs99 Says:

It’s very possible. Im not the biggest Baker backer but i believe if Baker can stay out of his own way and focus, he can be a good QB. Not great but good, and that can get us a long way with the right team and scheme built around him. Every so often a talented QB who fumbles his career in the beginning finds a way to resurrect it. He has a great supporting cast around him and i think he’s capable of showing the league that he was worthy of a #1 pick.

  8. Shakeandbaker Says:

Evans and Godwin had “rough” years! Can’t take her seriously if that’s what she thinks.

  9. Bucsfan13 Says:

What Brady Stans don’t understand is that we had a good offensive line that should’ve allowed him to push the ball downfield. What the Brady Stans don’t understand is that team had a semi decent run game that was able to complement the offense, so the old man wouldn’t have to throw the ball 60x a game. What Brady Stans don’t understand is that we had an OC who adapted his offense to compensate for the loss of top skill players and OL.

There’s no doubt why Bowles wanted Canales. He wants a guy with a fresh run schemes, and QB friendly offense that doesn’t require the QB to be Superman every game.

  10. Shakeandbaker Says:

And I agree with Brandon, Brady was a big part of why the Bucs were unable to put up points last year.

  11. garro Says:

Kay will you sign my Trask Jersey?

  12. Bucsfan13 Says:

Godwin was coming off a major injury, and in my opinion, he was rushed back too soon. He lost some of his burst and had trouble separating at times. The same goes for Evans. Yeah, Brady was throwing the ball over his head at times and didn’t make the right reads, but Evans had the drops and didn’t have good separation. He also gave up on some of his routes. He did the same Winston.

The offense will be better by addition by subtraction with Leftwich gone. By the way, has Leftwich been hired by another team? Considering the geriatric QB was holding him back. Surely, other teams would notice and be chopping at the bit to hire him.

  13. David Says:

For those thinking, Evans and Godwin had great years… You obviously didn’t watch the games. Yes, you can look at the stats and see 1000 yards but it was not good. The passing off fence was atrocious. They tried to run, they tried to dump it off, they would hit a wide receiver screen. That was Theo dense.
They rarely seemed like they threw past 5 yards.
Evans had weeks where he barely did a thing. That is not on Evans or on Brady. It was on the playcalling, and apparently pass protection.

  14. PSL Bob Says:

Adams can jump on our bandwagon any time. Scoot over!

  15. A Says:

I think the Bucs will be better as the year goes on…going to take time to get the oline right..dline right (probably still need a player there)

We just don’t have the Coach or QB to close out games.

    Go Bucs!

  16. Goatfarmer Says:

Mike and Chris had great years. Tough years?

  17. Destinjohnny Says:

We are going to be drafting high the next 3 years
Free agents coming is a thing of the Past.
We have to draft our way out of it.
We normally get one player every 3rd draft
    Maybe we get lucky

  18. D-Rok Says:

The only part of ME’s and CG’s game last year that was “rough” was the lack of red-zone production, compared to previous years. Maybe that is what Ms. Thing is referencing…otherwise, they had good yardage totals.

  19. Infomeplease Says:

KA has been a cheerleader of sorts for the Bucs for a while now! I sure would enjoy seeing her in a cremecycle mini!! Yes I would!!

  20. Bucamania Says:

She’s not wrong. The identity of this team is in flux.

  21. Crickett Baker Says:

I never noticed before but she seems to have extremely long fingers.

  22. Tye Says:

The creamsicle is Fugly and a curse….
It would be quite fitting the return of the creamsicle ushering in the return of the Yucks!

  23. vadertime Says:

I like Baker and I believe in him. If he can lead the team deep into the playoffs that will be enough for me. The rest of the team may need some help. Both Evans and Godwin appear to be declining in productivity. I sure hope we picked up some weapons for Baker during the draft otherwise we might be in for a mediocre season. Go Bucs.

  24. Goatfarmer Says:

Kay Adams……….co-anchors JBF Podcasts with Ora!

  25. Goatfarmer Says:

    Ira, dumb spellchecker

  26. Marques Says:

In Kyle Trask I trust. Fir this year a least. Then we reevaluate the situation. Cool hand Kyle. Baker is the crying baby that will eventually annoy everyone. He is who he thought he is. Tell me your peers and I will tell you who you are. Tom was a great guy to learn from. Too slow, average body, average arm. Sound familiar? Kyle is a TB12 protégée.

  27. unbelievable Says:

Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, they are coming off tough years

Uhhh… what? They both went over 1,000 yards, with Godwin coming back an ACL injury lol! Maybe she meant their # of TDs was down? That would be accurate. TDs were down for the entire team though lol.

  28. Brazen Zebra Says:

I agree. It is simple this year. If Baker has a good season, the Bucs make the playoffs. There is no otherwise. I don’t even want to think about otherwise. I really hope Canales can repeat his QB magic. Who woulda thunk Geno Smith was a good QB?!

  29. Ranger Walker Says:

@PatMcafeeShow was never the face of FanduelTV he was never even on the network. He was/is and will always be available on YouTube and FanDuel was only ever his official sportsbook nothing more than that and not what you’re implying here
