Sean Tucker Has Bucs Fans Buzzing

April 30th, 2023

Bucs UDFA RB Sean Tucker.

Yes, there is an undrafted free agent cult out there. They wring their hands for hours after the draft wondering what previously unwanted players their team can sign.

Joe usually doesn’t put much focus on these players, mostly because they rarely make a decent team much less make an impact. The odds are low.

But last night when Jordan Schultz of theScore.com reported the Bucs had signed Syracuse running back Sean Tucker, Joe got quite a few texts/DMs asking about him.

Tucker ran for over 2,500 yards and 23 touchdowns the past two years. Pretty solid. So why did this guy go undrafted? Well, per veteran NFL scribe Bob McGinn, who is one of the best in the business, an NFL executive told McGinn Tucker has a heart issue and that his career may be done as a result.

So yeah, Joe can see why the Bucs may want to take a flier on Tucker. He was used in a zone-blocking scheme at Syracuse, which is exactly what new Bucs offensive coordinator Dave Canales is installing with the Bucs.

If the Bucs can find the right doctor or somehow get Tucker healthy, hell yes this is worth a shot.

(Schultz also reported the Bucs signed Oklahoma C/G Chris Murray. This interested Joe because Oklahoma offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh pumps out so much strong NFL talent.)

  1. Hogg Wild Says:

Head down to the Walgreens and grab this guy some Quaker Oats and CoQ10 because he can really play and we need RB help bad.

  2. Mike Says:

Feels like a six million dollar man opportunity… we can rebuild him

  3. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

LOL, He is a Tucker, so you know he is good!

  4. Rand Says:

Also keep an eye on C Chris Murray from Oklahoma and RT Luke Haggard from Indiana. and LB Jeremy Banks from Tennessee as well. They could push for a roster spot or at least the PS.

  5. Brandon Says:

Thank you. Better late than never. The dude ass productive and can fly. Maybe our fastest RB ever. Even faster than Dunn. He was on the Syracuse track team as a freshman and ran the 60m with a PB of 6.90.

  6. Brandon Says:

Rand. Don’t sleep on Chris Izien. The dude is a fantastic athlete with loads of experience. Special teams all the way. He’s got Bob Sanders measurables. Kaevon Merriwether and Rakim Jarrett will likely push for spots as well.

  7. J Ghotier Says:

Been talking about this guy (whose tape I liked a smidge better than Chase Brown and hoping no injury related red flags to make him fall) on your site every RB article chance I get. No one else ever did or does here. His tape is great and a great compliment to the type of RB’s we have.

I was talking AWJ on here during his draft ad nauseam about him being my favorite non-first round projected player in the Draft. Not a peep from anyone here or the Joes about AWJ during his Draft process.

This is a dude to watch. I’m just hoping there isn’t a red flag or injury issue that made him go undrafted completely (which is wild)!

Couldn’t be happier to land him and my redundancy on here of him paid off, haha

  8. J Ghotier Says:

    long term ** injury issue

  9. David Says:

There is a Tucker born every minute!!

  10. Cchead Says:

Go to his twitter page. Dude says he is cleared and ready to go. Runs a 4.33 40. Can’t coach speed.

  11. Ryan Smith Says:

Haven’t been this excited about a Syracuse guy since Mike Williams. So happy we got him. Hopefully he can get cleared and not die playing football, health is more important than NFL.

  12. SB~LV Says:

    “ heart issue “
    ?
It seems it doesn’t prevent him from playing football.
BTW , I always pick an underdog player to pull for in TC , some how from a brief Youtube scouting I have latched onto another UDFA RB Ronnie Brown .. if he can make it through camp and sign to the PS that would be a massive accomplishment.
He absolutely needs a full year of training and diet

  13. Infomeplease Says:

Ryan Smith.. if he did not die, that would be a good starting point.

  14. Goatfarmer Says:

There are heart issues, and then there are heart issues.

Anyone know which kind he has?

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We are missing a RB so it’s smart for UDFA RBs to sign….not so much the C/G prospects..

  16. MadMax Says:

uggg, im so hungover….Mekhi Garner was passed over for a reason i guess.

  17. MadMax Says:

I like this kid, he’s got moxy

  18. Brandon Says:

Tucker has an elite skill set and will push for starter carries but once people get a look at Shepherd RB Ronnie Brown’s college stats and tape as well as seeing him in, he will become an instant fan favorite. He’s interesting to say the least. Averaged over 8.5 YPC each of fhe last two seasons (in D2) with over 1800 yards this last season and 9.0 ypc, along with very good workout numbers (5’11 192 4.40-4.45 40), plus he can really catch… oh. He’s white. Yes. He will get lots of attention soon whether he deserves it or not.

  19. Derobbins Says:

Those who say you can’t coach speed, have never heard of track coaches.

  20. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Seems like a more than normal amount of elite athletes these days are coming down with myocarditis. Was Sean Tucker born with a heart condition or did it just recently appear? Hopefully it is just a leaking heart valve which can be repaired.

  21. Stanglassman Says:

You can make fun of fans who enjoy UFA signings after the draft if you want but every year dozens of these guys make rosters. It is one of my favorite parts of the draft. Some years it’s lean others it’s fat. This year is especially fat due to players staying longer due to the pandemic. The Bucs signed a lot of really good players this year in UFAs. Aside from the RB you wrote about. A Safety, ILB and WR with 4/5th round grades. They picked up a few OL players with 6/7 round grades. A few interesting small school players TE/Wr and Rb who just dominated their leagues. 18 players in all. Guys to root for come training camp.

  22. SB~LV Says:

    Sean Tucker heart “issue “
    It’s just a covidincidence

  23. matthew veal Says:

I guess no udfa qbs though

  24. SB~LV Says:

Mathew there is one QB , UDFA

  25. Allbuccedup Says:

I don’t understand why the bucs didn’t draft a safety. You only have two on the roster and Winfield is injury prone. UDFAs usually don’t work out.

  26. rrsrq Says:

Ok, old school Bucs fans, watching highlights of this Tucker reminds me of a throwback, Tony Dorsett, that’s a high compliment, but I mean his style

  27. dmatt Says:

If his medical clearance remains the same once the season starts, then we got a steal of an UDFA without drafting a running back. 4.33 forty and bench press 29 times, elite data for a rb. He can also catch. I watched his highlights n a few of his runs reminds me of a few of Bo Jackson runs. No, I’m not saying he’s another Bo Jackson.

  28. Buc4evr Says:

If the Bucs signed Tucker they must have done some level of due diligence. Seems like a shitty thing to do for the NFL and McGuinn to be making comments about the possible severity of a potential draftees health condition prior to the draft. Likely a HIPAA violation.

  29. CrackerBall Says:

Sean Tucker heart “issue “ – It’s just a covidincidence

A home run comment from SB LV – 2 thumbs up Sir!

  30. 1sparkybuc Says:

    Dotson

  31. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

One UDFA QB and at least one QB invited for the tryouts.

  32. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

One of the guys I was watching said that he had a teammate with the same issue and he did great after the surgery. Didn’t say his name for obvious reasons.

  33. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner now has a son in the NFL.

Kade Warner, a receiver, has signed as an undrafted free agent with the Buccaneers

  34. Allbuccedup Says:

I can smell Ryan Griffin as 3rd string quarterback if hes not busy.

  35. Redeemer Says:

I’m a full blooded member of the cult Joe. Not being draft ed puts an immediate chip on the shoulder. A lot of times, these guys work harder, are easier to coach, and play with fire. Not having your behind kisses since the first grade can do that. Malcolm butler, is responsible for one of Brady’s Superbowls. Udfa

  36. SB~LV Says:

lol… Ryan Griffin… what a story and what a financial head start in life for a jock !
Seems like he is going into coaching or front office work with the Bucs

  37. Marine Buc Says:

Chris Simms compared Sean Tucker to the “Muscle Hampster” and had him as his #4 RB in this draft…

If he can recover from this “issue” he could be a heck of a steal for us.

I also like Maryland WR Rakim Jarrett – was rated much higher by PFF than UDFA plus we need a few more receivers after losing Miller, Perriman and Jones.

  38. Guzzie55 Says:

Maybe it’s his #34 but his highlights remind of a faster Thurman Thomas the way he just bounces of tacklers and he would’ve been in the running for fastest RB he has legit track speed with a 38” vertical and strong as a bull, put up 29 bench press reps at his personal pro day, which is lineman territory, without the medical issues, he’s top 5 this year easily

  39. D-Rok Says:

Man, this Tucker kid sure knows how to get the edge on his outside runs/sweeps. He’s not only fast, but he’s got excellent lateral agility, and to my eyes, has excellent vision and takes good angles.

I know his odds of “making” it in the NFL is low due to his draft status, but he’s someone I’m keeping my eye on. Let’s hope/pray he turns out to be a Big Baller.

  40. Marine Buc Says:

    Maryland WR Rakim Jarrett

    RAS = 8.42
    40 yard dash = 4.4
    20 yard split = 2.57

    40 rec for 471 yds – 3 TDs

    A little undersized at 6′ – 190 lbs.

Like I said we need a few more receivers. If he stays healthy this guy might make the club.

  41. Guzzie55 Says:

LB Jeremy Banks has/had some character issues in his past from what I’ve read, as far as skill, explosive, fast at 6’1 232 ran 4.53, he’s the 2nd best athlete behind White at LB hopefully Lavonte takes him under his wing, this guy has starter potential if he gets his head right

  42. Redeemer Says:

Oh yeah, And udfa’s are usually paid between 10 and 20k. Another great motivator. They don’t come close to the money a drafted player gets. Just get your foot in the door, and work your butt off kid. Jesus the guy from Georgia killed two people drag racing. Whatever this kids problems were, cant get much more egregious than that.

  43. teacherman777 Says:

This guy moves like an NFL running back.

This guy has the size of an NFL running back.

I think we just added a legit NFL running back.

  44. Mike S Says:

I’m reading that he has been medically cleared.

  45. Mike S Says:

SB~LV – a covidicidence for sure. It takes about 6 weeks to recover from jab induced myocarditis. Outside the scar tissue it leaves on your heart – the recovery is considered full.

No jabs for this kid going forward if you want to keep him on the field (and from dying).

  46. Mike S’s empty whiskey handle Says:

LV-SB, Cracker Jack, Mike S – three classically trained conspiracy theorists. . You have no clue what his heart issue is, and you have nothing else to spout off besides the propaganda you’ve been fed. Marks and Suckers. So easy to con you. But hey, we got ya right where we want you. “Right over there, that pile of dipshits, yes, use them, they’ll do it, way too dumb to figure it out but they are on the internet a lot”

  47. Rod Munch Says:

I watched his film, and looked at his workout numbers, and he looks like a guy that maybe could make a roster as a 4th RB – but there was nothing exciting. Runs a 4.54, isn’t big, but looks competent, in the mold of maybe Peyton Barber on the high end.

Meanwhile, go watch the insane highlight reel for Ronnie Brown, another RB the Bucs signed as a UDFA, it’s ridiculous how good he looks, albeit against very very low end talent. At the very least its a very fun highlight reel. Also his speed, quickness and explosion numbers are great. It’s for sure a long shot, but he could come out of nowhere and get a roster spot – I certainly hope he makes it into some games in the preseason. BTW, last year I said the same thing about Thompkins, and he obviously ended up making the team, while everyone else was talking about the WR Jerreth Sterns because he had an insane number of catches, but watching his tape, he clearly wasn’t someone who was going to be an NFL talent and was just a great college player.

  48. Rod Munch Says:

Nevermind, the place I’m seeing 4.54 is obviously FAKE NEWS! Everyone else says he didn’t run, and other places say he’s a track guy. Watching his tape, he certainly doesn’t look like a 4.35 guy, he looks more like a 4.5 guy, but maybe he was playing injured? If so, then I’ll take back my comments on him looking pedestrian.

  49. Goatfarmer Says:

Sean Tucker looked very good against some good schools. Very surprised he wasn’t drafted.

Licht, Spytek and crew have done an amazing job. Now in the short term, they’ll need to figure out what to do with the Diva. Longer term, they need to have a replacement plan when Bloweszo leaves to open his hamster farm.

  50. chark Says:

I like Tucker if all things go as planned I see him competing for game snaps as starter 1A to R white.

  51. firethecannons Says:

Goat says this: There are heart issues, and then there are heart issues.

Anyone know which kind he has?

So Joe it is like saying he has a health problem so many different kind of heart issues, some scary and some not please investigate this. He has played football last few years at least and so far no serious complications, perhaps we just have the medical staf work with this and be ready to support him as needed.

  52. LakelandSteve Says:

Tucker is a freaking theft. If he is healthy this dude can tote the rock. Look out Rachaad White, he’s coming for your spot.

  53. Bojim Says:

Why does Brender always bring up race?

  54. Brandon Says:

Munch… his 4.33 definitely shows on tape. He ran for Syracuse track as a freshman and hit 6.90 in the 60. Plus he was a HS champion in 55, 100, and 200.

Brown LOOKS like he can run. A close friend of mine played for Shepherd, and my friend still holds most weight testing records for DBs at Shepherd, and says he’s an athletic freak. My friend is a freak and still holds bench, clean, and squat. If Jerome says the dude is a freak, I believe him. That being said… Brown is still a Longshot. Tucker isn’t at all. The dude will get starters reps

  55. Troy Merwin Says:

The steal of the Draft..you watch!!

  56. Joe Says:

So Joe it is like saying he has a health problem so many different kind of heart issues, some scary and some not please investigate this.

Joe doesn’t have access to medical records. And since the Bucs gave him $150k, thinking it may be safe to assume Bucs think he will be OK.

  57. Oneilbuc Says:

Has any team picked up McBride yet?? He is a still!!!

  58. Canabuc Says:

    Think this was a steal!
    He looks incredible!
28 reps on bench 4.33 speed. And watch the tape. Can catch is fast as hell a bd can break tackles run inside.
Assuming he is cleared to play. He and White will be 1-2 punch. He athletically should have been a 3rd rounder

  59. Joe in Michigan Says:

Oneilbuc: McBride got taken in the 7th Round by the Vikings.

  60. CaptMHealz Says:

Excited about Sean Tucker, hopefully his health gets right he gets the OK to GO!
Just watched Ronnie Brown, I’m impressed, watched his highlights and first impression is he reminds me of Reggie Bush at USC, he obviously didnt play the same talent. Watch his running style, vision and elusiveness.
I’m excited for the position battles.

  61. Canabuc Says:

Think Licht hit a homerun with this draft and UDFA.
Only pick I didn’t understand was Hayes. Would have tried to find a slot guy elsewhere.

This k this defense will be hunting.

  62. Buc You Says:

Ok… see you guys in the pre-season.
