Inside Scotty Miller’s Falcons News Conference

April 2nd, 2023

“Scooter, you just signed with a run-first team.”

After watching every Baker Mayfield snap from the 2022 season via NFL Game Pass, Joe finally got around to watching Scotty Miller’s introdcutory news conference in Atlanta.

Miller signed with the Falcons last week in free agency. The Bucs’ 2019 sixth-round pick (a pick aquired in a trade of DeSean Jackson) dropped a few interesting nuggets to the Atlanta media.

First, he acknowledged that he wished he got more snaps at slot receiver in Tampa, where he could have used his quickness to be a great mismatch on linebackers. Miller said he was always fighting for playing time in a loaded Bucs receivers room.

Multiple teams jumped into the mix to sign Miller as the Falcons’ offer got his focus last week, he added.

Asked about being called on to run block for a run-heavy Falcons team, Miller cracked a little smile and said he will do whatever it takes. (For new Bucs fans, Miller is maybe 170 pounds and not much of a blocking threat.)

Miller expressed his eternal gratitude to Tampa Bay for taking a chance on him out of Bowling Green with a sixth-round pick — on a receiver who wasn’t invited to the NFL Scouting Combine or the Senior Bowl.

Miller also thinks he can bring his postseason experience to Atlanta. And he likened Falcons stud receiver Drake London to Mike Evans, which left Joe wagging a finger at the YouTube screen.

  1. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

He was always kind of a one trick Pony, who struggled against press coverage.

  2. Goatfarmer Says:

Wish him well, just wish he weren’t in the Bucs decision. He’s gonna roast someone deep in at least one game.

  3. Goatfarmer Says:

    *division

  4. Robert Says:

He’ll burn us. Any good OC would use him well. Sitting behind ME, CG and AB then getting lefty as an OC……..I wish him well, and hope he lights it up.

  5. BucsfanFred Says:

Good luck, Scotty. Thanx for the memories.

  6. Jeff’s grandpa Says:

All he does is run straight fast and don’t forget his drops when he jumps to catch

  7. Robert Says:

He was losing confidence the longer he was here. He got mugged a few time and no call…..bet he’ll get those pi calls now that he’s elsewhere

  8. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I liked him. Circumstances made it tough to prove himself in Tampa, but he had some bright spots and is a swell guy.

  9. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

My only knock against him is that, if he was fielding other offers…why did he have to pick a division rival????

  10. Beej Says:

Atlanta a 60 minute trip from his family, agree GA eminently preferable to live in than NY, CA, IL, so many others

  11. Fansince76 Says:

A decent speed receiver who will always be remembered for the championship catch but he did regress, Just wish he was not in our division.

  12. Buc4evr Says:

Not sure he is going to excel with the dirty birds. Don’t think he will get many deep passes and will be man handled in the short and middle routes.

  13. BA’s Red Pen Says:

    Nothing to see here.

  14. Beej Says:

He’s about the same size as Cheetah Hill, not sure why he can’t work out the issues with press coverage

  15. TF Says:

What an iconic catch he had! Good times. However he does have bad habits and technical issues that let’s face it he never has improved upon. If he did he would have got more playing time. That would as eyebrow raising with his elite speed. So that being said I loved and respect his contributions but can care less what team he goes to. Take the money young man and playing time opportunity. I’m not concerned about a WR 4th or 5th on our depth chart coming back to haunt us. Who cares what team he plays for. Good luck Scotty.

  16. adam from ny Says:

i tried to watch the presser on youtube…boring stuff… i stopped listening about 30 seconds after the me13 talk…

wish him well tho…just not against us

  17. Infomeplease Says:

Scotty helped get the Bucs into the SB! He sure is fast. But what’s up with that jumping into the air to catch in the gut stuff?

  18. NoLogicLeftwich Says:

I see scotty burning us every game.

  19. Vancouver Buc Says:

Fun to watch, hope he comes back some day.

  20. Rod Munch Says:

First, he acknowledged that he wished he got more snaps at slot receiver in Tampa, where he could have used his quickness…

WHAT?!?! Scotty, you weren’t quick, that’s the entire problem with you. Stupid Leftwich would throw you screens, and you’d try to juke, and instead be tackled 3 yards behind the line of scrimmage. You’re a one trick pony, you can run fast in a straight line, that’s all you can do. BTW, that’s NOT a problem. It might only be one trick, but it’s a great one trick as it can pull coverage off guys underneath.

But what a delusional d-bag to think he was being held back when he almost never broke a tackle or made someone miss. Scotty, you’re known for one thing, you ran right past a guy because he thought you were the typical slow slot WR. Just live with your fame and stop acting like there’s more to you than that. You’re not faster than Tyreek, and you’re not a better slot receiver than Chris Godwin.

  21. David Says:

Nothing in Scotty but… I don’t really care. He is a fourth or fifth string wide receiver at best and is a one trick pony. I don’t need to see every press conference of past Buccaneers that are struggling to make a roster.

  22. Mike S Says:

I think Miller has great skills. The only knock I have on the guy is he tries to jump and body catch too much – especially in the middle of the field. He’s trying to secure the ball and shield himself from the hit.

I hear Pat McAfee at 225 talk about how scary the violence in the NFL is you have to figure Scotty at 180 is feeling that.

  23. FortMyersDave Says:

Like DJack (with the Rams), Miller will probably burn the Bucs for one long TD but other teams will know how to bottle him up. I wish him well but only against New Orleans and Carolina.

  24. Delusional Intelligence Says:

I see more turf toe in his future.

  25. westernbuc Says:

    Comp picks baby!!!

  26. GMC hater Says:

If he’s run blocking against White and David I don’t see that going well for him.
