Cody Mauch Is The Ultimate Jason Licht Pick

April 28th, 2023

Cody Mauch, the Buccaneers’ second-round pick.

The Bucs tonight selected North Dakota State offensive tackle Cody Mauch. He screams Jason Licht.

What does the Bucs’ AC/DC-loving general manager love? Small school offensive linemen.

Joe thinks one reason is Licht himself was a small school offensive lineman after he transferred from Nebraska.

Mauch is a mauler of atackle. Hungry. Ornery. A fighter. Plays with an edge. Has a big personality.

All the traits Licht covets.

Welcome to Tampa Bay, Mr. Mauch. You did college right.

Dude looks like brawler, can’t wait to see him in action.

  3. Ben the GA Buc Says:

Freaking love it. Excited about this pick.

  4. Nicholas Carlson Says:

    Brilliant draft so far…

  5. PA Buc Fan Says:

For some reason knowing absolutely nothing about him I love this pick. Just feels right! And definitely is right down Lichts alley where he usually does well landing smaller school o lineman! Well done Tampa. Fortify the trenches!!!!

  6. ModHairKen Says:

    Angry Red has a brother?

  7. Breadwinnerbob Says:

Now take the kid from Texas am and we might just not be 32 in run game next year

  8. Voice of Truth Says:

Jeremy Trueblood…meh…but Burns was gone already so we likely settled – don’t really see a zone blocker with nimble feet here…

  9. dbbuc711 Says:

Jenson and he are gonna be fun to watch

  10. Oxycondoms Says:

    Cool guy to cheer for.
    Moving up didnt seem necessary

  11. HC Grover Says:

    Like it a lot!

  12. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Cody is has elite lateral speed. Rarely does he get beat from a speed rusher. I think he only allowed 2 careers sacks in his 3 years college career as a starter.

  13. Dom>Licht Says:

We will see if Licht is smarter than everyone else….. seems like another reach.

  14. BootyLover Says:

    Licht loves the long hairs.

  15. Charles Lindsey Says:

    Hacksaw, Jim Duggan

  16. gotbbucs Says:

    This is a good pick.

  17. CBWells Says:

He looks like he wants to hug you or kill you. So long has he doesn’t get holding calls……I’m all in!!!

  18. PA Buc Fan Says:

    Hoooooooooooooo!!!!

  19. Tvan101 Says:

Dom>licht is all I need to know you’re completely wrong about every take.

  21. rrsrq Says:

    Projected Left or Right tackle?

  22. Austin Says:

Now let’s get him some more man weight lol

  23. Leighroy Says:

    But does he eat glass??

  24. Canabuc Says:

    Like the pick.
Between him Jensen Kieft. We have some angry gingers!
He was ranked top 5 in OL by PFF. If he can start at tackle we can have a nasty line.

Did we trade up? Missed first 25 min of draft …

  25. gotbbucs Says:

Who says redheads are going extinct. This team has a strong collection of an endangered species.

  26. Irishmist Says:

You don’t have to be crazy to play this game. But it helps.

  27. SteveK Says:

    Damn straight!

We got a menace on the d line and a beast of an OT!

    Let’s go toothless! Woooo!

  28. Bucsfan13 Says:

Said the same thing about Goedeke. We gave up too much for the pick

  29. Brian Says:

    Good pick a LEFT tackle!

  30. SufferingSince76 Says:

Very nice pick. The guy is a giant.

  31. Doc Says:

This is the worst General Manager in the history of Pro football.

  32. DBS Says:

Who cares what you cry babies think? Notice it is always the same people complaining about the picks or moves. And some the people that always change their names.

  33. Frank Pillow Says:

I’d like to think our first two picks were really about toughness. This was a Charmin soft team last year, with only a handful of players that looked like they held themselves accountable. I hope Mauch brawls early in camp with the crew of serial loafers across the ball from him—better get ready to get live 45

  34. ABucAway Says:

Hahaha this guy meets the three required standards for linemen as set forth by Cobraboy and Goatfarmer.
    Big
    Ugly
    Teeth optional

  35. Aaron Says:

I’m done. We just traded up to draft a player we already have in Luke Goedeke. Seriously????

  36. Voice of Truth Says:

Got moderated for not agreeing with the pick – nice!

  37. Yucs2Bucs Says:

I like the pick, but no way they plug him in as a stater because defensive players are going to eat him up. Maybe 3 years down the road, but needs to put weight and muscle on. What’s disappointing is they needed day one starters and have yet to accomplish that goal ? Didn’t realize the guy they got last night has the shortest arms of any player and hopefully this is Jason’s last year at GM because his track record isn’t the best and since they have no money they didn’t bring in any FAs, but they are going to have a heck of a time protecting Baker and also getting off the field with this group.. my prediction is last place in the worst division in the league next year and good luck filling that stadium, but Tampa fans need to show the Glazers we aren’t happy and the only to do that is hit them in their pocket book

  38. Voice of Truth Says:

I made the every post gets moderated status again!!!

  39. JEZ Says:

I’ve seen memes of this guy pretty cool. All Oline should look like this hopefully he plays as rough as he looks

  40. Marine Buc Says:

    LSFG!!!

This guy eats rocks for breakfast…

Our first two picks fit our new mantra perfectly – Mean, nasty, fast, young and hungry.

  41. Hodad Says:

He projects as a guard, short arms. We moved up 2 spots to get him, Licht again bidding against himself for a small school nothing. Don’t get this pick.

  42. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    But….why the trade up?

To my memory, Licht traded up for Marpet, Cappa & Goedeke…..seems to me he just can’t help himself.

  43. Arn Platz Says:

Stop complaining, with all our O-line injuries last year we need quality depth. Love the pick

  44. Bojim Says:

He smiles as he buries you. Great pic. Couple of you may be wrong about him. They didn’t draft your guy. Boo hoo.

  45. Voice of Truth Says:

He is a guard at the nfl level according to most draft recaps on him – we have a lot of guards now

  46. Colin in Canada Says:

He’s a guard. Does that mean Goedeke is RT?

  47. Bnasty Says:

What this team needs is trenches and speed… They’re going after both… Draft has me happy so far. These two picks have me more hyped than the last two drafts combined. Licht is hit or miss but the smaller school o lineman he’s been solid. Kancey gives us speed we’ve been missing on d line and can go in different spots. Our d line will be our strength I hope. Hall doesn’t concern me as much as JTS and feel JTS needs more size and “gap control” looking at tape you can’t just run around and chase defenders. I hope White blitzes more honestly and they line him up all over like Parsons. He’s more explosive than Parsons with better closing speed… Just my opinion what do y’all think?

  48. Bucamania Says:

    Gotta be for OG.

  49. Davenport Says:

We’re going to run the football. Period. Draft a RB in the 3rd and fill out tmw with DBs & LBs Can’t say that i am against that approach.

  50. TiredBucsFan Says:

    I love it! Go Cody!

  51. Shakeandbaker Says:

Doc and dom completely clueless. Hey you two morons Mauch was good value here. You’re just haters so gtfoh!

  52. Steven007 Says:

You guys argue about trading up like it’s your money. Obviously he traded up because he thought someone was going to pick him before we picked. That’s all there is to it. If you like the pick stop complaining. If you complain, you’re probably always complaining

  53. Marine Buc Says:

Worst case scenario – if Cody doesn’t make the team the Glazers can give him a sword, eye patch and put a bandana on his head and he can become the new mascot for the Bucs…

  54. Stormy Says:

Jesus Christ…. some of you people must be miserable in person. If Licht has shown a strength, it’s finding good offensive linemen. Cappa, Marpet, Smith.

Goedeke was rushed so using last year to judge the guy isn’t fair. But he did look much better at RT – a position he played. Switching positions and sides is a lot to ask for.

Cappa took a few years and Marpet wasn’t all world out of the gate, either. But this team doesn’t win a super bowl without them.

Regardless of some of the whiners on here, Licht has a damn good track record as a GM. Perhaps some of you ‘experts’ should drop off your applications at One Buc.

  55. Buc4evr Says:

WWE anyone. Lol. Love it. Must be drafted for a guard. Wirfs at LT , Godeke at RT. But it begs the question, Why didn’t we draft Torrence instead?

  56. #99 the Big fella Says:

Most of the fans like the pick.. but the few who don’t,feel free to find another team to root for..anyone who knows football knows that you build the trenches and the bucs are on the right path

  57. gotbbucs Says:

North Dakota St. has a better football program than half the teams in the Big 12 and Big 10. The NFL has loads of players that come out of the Missouri Valley Conference. You morons talking about “small school” are clueless.

  58. Chuck Says:

Stormy, you need to comment here more often.

  59. SteveK Says:

Jason Licht is a boss. Thank you for constructing a roster that looked nice to TB12, and for having the stones to sign him, but also for your focus on building INT he trenches.

Your predecessor, the rock star, would’ve disqualified a guy off their board bc he farted. So glad we have some French talent. It’s going to come together.

  60. Mike Johnson Says:

He certainly looks the role. Like he don’t take crap from nobody. Every team needs a couple of mean streak lookin guys. Hope he jumps right in and plays tough.

  61. Eric Says:

Everyone says “build up the trenches”

First two picks in the trenches. No pleasing you folks.

  62. Mike S Says:

Wirfs at LT Mauch at RT Jensen at C

Hainsey, Goedeke, Leveritt, Feiler fighting for the guard spots – Feiler or Goedeke as the swing tackle.

    Could have a decent Oline

  63. Goatfarmer Says:

    YES! Almost toothless. Perfect!!!!!!

  64. TonySoprano Says:

The Bucs have said they have no problem with Goedeke’s arm length at RT because he’s tall enough. And the clearly don’t value arm length too much evidenced by the Kancey pick. Mauch has better feet than Goedeke. My guess is they’ll try Mauch at T and Goedke at RG.

  65. FairMinded Says:

    Yes…but can he juggle?

  66. BucsFan1328 Says:

Like this pick up even if he becomes a guard. Think he stays at tackle unless we bring someone else in. Not sure about the trade up. No one will care in a few years if he works out

  67. Goatfarmer Says:

I get accused of being negative. I’m only negative about Bloweszo, and when the Trask nub rubbers come out of their closets. The roster is good and Jason has hit two picks out of the park. Negative ninnies should audition for the Simple Jack series. Coming to a homeless shelter near you.

  68. Mord Says:

This guy seems like he could be great! Nice pick. But I kinda agree this didn’t seem to need the trade up; did anyone but Licht even know about him? Lol.

  69. Usfbuc Says:

I would have preferred Jones but nobody should be questioning our team picking OL. We have had good success with our picks on the o line.

The Bucs have said they have no problem with Goedeke’s arm length at RT because he’s tall enough.

    ———–

For what it’s worth, Cody has a small 1/4″ arm length advantage, while Luke has like a 2″ arm span advantage. Luke is also 10 pounds heavier coming out of college, but has also had a year of being in an NFL building to bulk up even more. Meanwhile Cody is overall the better athlete.

  71. Rod Munch Says:

*Not 1/4th, but 1/8th, I believe. I was doing those numbers off the top of my head so I could be wrong, slightly, but I believe they’re very close if they’re very slightly off.

  72. Ben the GA Buc Says:

    Stormy, keep spittin’ truth, plz.

  73. Red86 Says:

Wow. His highlights are great. Nice steal.

  74. Delusional Intelligence Says:

    Ira called this. Well done.

  75. garro Says:

The Toothless Ginger is ours…Hell Yeah!

Loved the tape on this guy! The Senior Bowl tape I watched I don’t think he lost a rep. Quick feet and tenacious!

  76. Zane Acker Says:

I hope the team has a Welcome basket ready for him. Sunscreen. He’ll need it here, the red hair and fair skin mean he’ll miss a game if he falls asleep lounging outdoors without plenty of it.

  77. Ranger Walker Says:

If he plays RG, Jensen at C and if the glass eater comes back from Geodeke at RT we could have a MEAN right side coming at you! Love this pick and the 1st

  78. TampabayDJ Says:

@Stormy – Took the words out of my mouth ! A lot of the people on here think they know more about evaluating football players than the guys who are getting paid millions to do so . They will never be happy , unless our Bucs are winning every game, then the same people are saying JL is the best. Just a bunch of bandwagon fans and fans who know nothing about football outside of watching it on their TVs. Go Bucs
